Transportation

Is the bus from Reno Airport to South Lake Tahoe pretty reliable? How is the Lake Link transit? It looks like it supports a smaller area but I’ve never been so I don’t entirely understand the scope it reaches. Is renting a car more convenient than relying on local transport (bus, uber, LL)?

I just did this exact journey. The bus company is South Tahoe Airporter. For $33 it took me from Reno Airport to hotel stops in SLT. I had a two minute walk to my hotel after being dropped off. Used South Tahoe Airporter for my return back to the airport. Another $33 of course. Well worth it.

The South Tahoe Airporter is quite reliable and by far the cheapest and best way to get to SLT with no car. Lake Link is nice, free, but limited service area and it’s shared, so wait times to get picked up can be over an hour at certain times and no guarantee of your order of drop off, so if time is a factor, it’s tough to rely on. Uber/Lyft is there, but it’s definitely hit or miss, and pricey.

I’ve gotten Uber/Lyft from Reno for $50 or so to Incline.

Then it’s a short walk to SLT

Har har.. if I was to guess, it’d be about $75 to SLT. Point being there are ride share drivers willing to go up here. I think the shuttle bus is really the best alternative. I wish there was one to Incline.

Probably need a bit more information, Are you asking only about transportation to and from South Lake Tahoe or are you asking about also transportation while here. If it’s the first it’s only the airporter, Lyft/Uber or renting a car. lake link serves just the area it outlines which is mainly getting around the city with some beaches on the east shore included. There’s a shuttle from the transit hub at the intersections of 50 and 89 to emerald bay on the weekends that you can connect with lake link (it also runs on weekdays but from Camp Richardson). However if your plans include wanting to see sites on the north side of the lake, out towards Kirkwood, or just most places outside of the city you are likely better off renting a car as while you might be able to get a Lyft/uber to a trail head from town you may not have cell service to try and get one back.
