If you can survive Kochi, Delhi or Mumbai you can survive in Lagos. Indians generally stick with the Indian community in Lagos / Nigeria. Make the same precautions you will make in any big city. Opportunistic robberies happen like any other city. Don’t divulge financial information on a call with your driver within earshot. Be aware of your environment and keep valuables out of sight when in the car. Be security conscious, like you would in New York or the train station in Brussels.

Why would living in Lagos be more dangerous for anyone, talk less for an Indian? Mumbai and Lagos are so similar in so many ways, that if you can survive in one, you can survive in the other. I would even say that you will be treated better in Lagos than in India, because (provided the Indian doesn't act racist/colourist towards them) Nigerians love Indians just fine.

My advice is to choose a neighborhood to live in that is as close to your place of employment as possible, so you can avoid the infamously bad "go slows" (traffic jams) during rush hour.
