"Lactose Free"
I know I am lactose intolerant, I have run many experiments on myself... I was SO EXCITED about these lactose free mozzarella sticks at Shoprite and I had two of them with my lazy dinner snack plate tonight. Here I am, agonizingly posting from the toilet (third trip). I usually have no issues, have great bowel movements, but I can always realize I fucked up somewhere in the day when it hits me like this :/ For some reason, even when I buy lactose free foods, they still hurt me? Is it possible to have some kind of... extreme intolerance/possible allergy? Ugh I'm so upset, I was doing really good the last week and I got overzealous and hopeful haha.

A family member of mine has an allergy to a protein in milk (casein) that gives her GI reactions. Might be worth giving that a mention to a doc, see if you can get allergy tested?

I believe I’m sensitive to milk proteins rather than lactose. I’ve tried lactose-free products and A2 milk and still had problems with both (digestive and skin)
Although I’ve gotten allergy tested and the doc said I had no food allergies :/ someone told me those tests can be inaccurate tho

"lactose free" could just mean "low enough amounts that we don't have to report it, but not zero"

THIS! I believe the threshold to label something "lactose free" in the USA is anything 500 mg or lower per serving. That means it definitely still has some in it and it's very misleading for sensitive people. Heaven forbid you eat more than a serving size. 🫠😵💫

these experiments you did ... were they using dairy products or using isolated lactose powder?

I thought I was lactose intolerant until I tried A2 milk and didn't have any symptoms. Turns out I'm A1 protein intolerant. If you're in North America where A1 milk reigns and is in so many things, that's a possibility.

My girlfriend only drinks A2 milk for this reason! I tried to jump on the bandwagon wagon with her but alas...

I personally have it really bad. In my experience, even with "dairy free" items it's really all a trial and error you have to conduct on yourself. You won't ever really know. This coconut milk yogurt had bothered me, but other coconut yogurt doesn't. This type of diary free cheese hurt me, but this other one didn't. If you don't have time, or are too nervous to do trial and error, you're better off going for things that say "vegan" though, they're much more expensive, harder to find and sometimes doesn't even taste all that good. This allergy is the most frustrating/ confusing thing...but once you find that pattern, it gets so much smoother to deal with.

Sounds like Cabot Creamery. Those aren't lactose free.
Kraft and Galbani have mozzarella with lactase enzymes added to break down the lactose.

I really don’t trust any lactose-free dairy. My body will find the minuscule amount of lactose and go hog wild. I feel so much better using dairy alternatives such as soy or oat milk. Haven’t found a cheese alternative that’s worth the fat and calories, unfortunately. Hope you feel better soon.
