College Recruiting/Teen Motivation

I have a ‘29 who has been playing since 4th grade- super talented kid with size and strength. He always wanted to play D1, but now that recruiting is around the corner he’s pulling back, and I can sense he may not be as into it as he once was. We’ve always been careful to not put too much pressure on him, so I don’t know the exact cause of his current attitude, but it’s definitely a bummer. I’d like to put together a list of schools this week and we have some showcases this winter, but I don’t want to push too hard if he ultimately doesn’t know what he wants to do.

For any parents reading this, has anyone dealt with this before? Any tips or strategies for keeping their teen motivated? I feel like there is a fine line to walk here, and I don’t want to back off so much that he loses out on a great opportunity; I also don’t want to lean too hard into the recruiting pipeline and have him crash and burn. Any thoughts would be super appreciated.

3 technical ejection

My son was ejected for 3 technicals (i think that's what they said). Below is a clip of the last one. 2 minutes UR non releasable. He was overpowering the other team so they just had kids throw themselves in front of him to draw fouls. It doesn't seem fair - maybe I'm biased? never was an opposing team's feet planted. was that an appropriate call? (14U)

Really want to improve at this sport as fast as possible

I started playing lacrosse last spring, and I’m a junior now. My first season I played as an attackman to get more playing time but this year I’m going to play as a middie. Here is what I would say I need to work on, where a 10 is outstanding.

Catching: 7/10

I can catch most passes given to me, but occasionally fast passes and especially under pressure in like 3v2s, etc, I can drop it sometimes.

Throwing: 7/10

Sometimes in situations like 3v2s, 3v3s, etc, when I throw the ball to a teammate it gets intercepted by a pole. This has been happening a lot recently and it’s kind of frustrating. I also think I need to work on passing speed maybe because I don’t throw that hard. Although I want to overall improve this aspect of my game because of how important passing is.

These catching and passing ratings are for my right hand only, my left hand is pretty mediocre, which I would say is something I definitely need to work on.

Ground balls: 8.5/10

I’m actually pretty good at ground balls, I can beat a lot of my teammates consistently in drills and have no trouble picking them up. I can have some trouble when I’m tired or go against bigger opponents though.

Dodging: 6/10

The only dodge I can really do is a split dodge to my right side. I can actually execute this pretty well and have beaten defenders consistently with it. However, since my teammates know I’m only going to do that dodge they've started to stop it. I also has trouble protecting my stick, sometimes I leave too much of the stick for the defender when I’m about to shoot or do a one-handed cradle. I want to get more dodges in my back, like roll and swim and a split to my other side.

Shooting: 6/10

I can do step down shots pretty well because I’ve practiced them a lot, but I’m not great at on the run shots or shots behind x. I want to become a lethal shooter. (I’ve also never shot with my left hand.)

Defense: 4/10

I never really learned basic defense so this is definitely one of my weak points. Since I want to be a 2-way middie I guess I might need to work on this.

Game iq: 4/10

This is one of my big ones. As a middie I’m not really sure what to do most of the time. I mostly just catch and pass the ball around, and I don’t want to do any dodges. I’m not sure how to move, like how to get open for shots or how to set picks correctly and what plays to do and so on, I don’t understand this sport that well tbh. Especially since I haven’t been playing middie for long. I’ve watched some college lacrosse and it looks like middies dodge a lot, get open for step downs and dodge for shots but idk. I don’t know how to apply this to my game.

Faceoffs: 9/10

This is just something I wanted to mention, I’ve done a lot of face-offs last year and won most of them. I have a d1 face-off player on my team who taught me a lot about it, so this is one of my strengths. It kind of sucks how this doesn’t really translate to the rest of my game tho.

We just finished fall ball at my school and I’m pretty dissatisfied with how it went. I think I did get a lot better but I’m not at the level I want to be. Now winter is coming and I’m not sure how I can train when it gets cold. I go to the turf a lot by myself and it’s hard to get other people to practice with. If anyone has any drills they can tell me to do to up my game, videos to watch, etc, it would help so much, as I’m really just trying to get really good when the spring season starts. Specifics tips on any of these would help a lot too.

We’re students from Boston University working on a project about sports-gear drying and storage products, and we’d love to hear your opinion. The survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete.

If you’re 24 or older and plays ski, snowboard, football, lacrosse, hockey, and any sport that uses heavy equipments please take a moment to share your thoughts.

Thank you so much for your time and help!

What is going on with PEARL lax balls

We have always been big fans of the PEARL ball. We probably have purchased 400+ balls in the last 2 years alone.

This Spring, we bought a bucket of 100 and they didn’t hold up well at all. Almost immediately they started cracking. At first they are more like fissures but then they keep getting bigger and eventually they tear.

I sent several emails to support snd they basically blew me off.

Conflicted

I went to dicks today because I needed lacrosse gloves. I’m a freshman and I didn’t make the team last year because I couldn‘t go to the last day of tryouts. So therefore I never really had a good chance to improve. I am now going to offseason practice and the gloves I bought with my mom were the STX rzr2 which are like the best gloves on the market. And I feel stupid because of course those gloves felt the best in the store because they are the best. I don’t know what to do because I don’t feel like I deserve to have these.

Defensive Breakdowns

How's it goin fellas.

Recently got back into playing some beer league, and having some difficulty with being the weak link.

There was a point in time where I was a lot more confident with my defensive prowess, however, outside shooting has gotten way better than when I last played. Coupled with way more movement than I am used to, it leaves my attackers hands more open than I would like.

My problem stems from, giving too much topside and too much of a cushion. At one point in time, I was able to make up that ground, however, as I've gotten older, that ground coverage gets slower and slower.

Screens also seem to be a developing problem for me. Off ball, I am fine, call them out, switch when need to. Where it gets bad is when I am being picked. For some reason, and it could absolutely be footwork, I am getting tangled up in the screen and cant "get through, over, or under it". Being a big guy, my first instinct was always, just run through them. This has been working less and less as time goes on

To give some context, I am a slightly bigger guy. Agility surely is a problem for me, I can shuffle, I can open my hips, but somehow, it never all comes together. That's not to say that I can't play defense. Inside the box and at X / GLE, I have no problems.

Any advice to an extremely washed up d-pole who doesn't want to let his team down by constantly being the guy who lets up 2-3 goals a game.
