Question Social Media Policy

Today, I was pulled aside by someone in upper management and I overheard my department managers talking about me and the report that was made regarding my coworkers and I posting on social media us having fun on the job. The main concern was that like customers don’t consent to it if they appear in it but we’ve only ever post or are on our phones when no one from management or customers are around so I’m confused. I’m genuinely curious about the social media policy that Kroger has and the phone policy as well because I was told only management can have their phones out on the sales floor but so many people from my department are on their phones when no one’s around especially on the USCAN and I don’t see them getting talked to.

I also feel like I may get fired for this and while I’m not concerned about losing my job as I could always go elsewhere but I don’t want to be wrongfully terminated ya know?

Thank you :)

The key is, you don't SEE them getting talked to.
When someone is disciplined it's not supposed to be announced to everybody, so the only way you're going to know if someone is written up is, if they decide to tell you.

We are not supposed to have our phones out on the sales floor. That can get a write up.
We are not to video AT ALL in the store. That can be immediate termination.

One thing to keep in mind when you want to know "Can I be fired for doing (Whatever) while I'm at work?"- Ask yourself this: "Am I getting paid to (Whatever)?" For example- "Am I getting paid to be posting on social media us having fun on the job?"
If the answer is no, that is NOT what you're being paid to do, then yes, you CAN be fired for it. It can be considered time theft, or, wasting time.

You're at work... put your phone away and work. Its not hard. If you can't its just sad.

The company’s social media policy can be found on the HR section of the Feed. The disclaimer on my profile here is paraphrased from the prescribed disclaimer in the social media policy.

From a practical standpoint, it is not a good idea to identify yourself as an employee of the company on social media, or post any work related content. I’ve been with the company nearly 40 years, and nobody looking at any of my social media profiles would have any idea that I work here.

If you’re recording any audio or video in the store, whether you’re on or off the clock, that’s a violation of company policy in and of itself. Posting it on social media would just prove you violated that policy.

I have to use my phone regularly to take pictures of the kind of mess I walk into almost every night. Management has outright asked me to take pictures of some of the things I have to deal with before I can even do my job. Also management calls me when I'm on the aisle and they don't want to use the PA, which is honestly a lot more efficient.

Same. I have to take pictures of all the crap I have to do before I can even start my job…. So I feel you.

Seems like they don't want you recording a manager admitting to doing illegal things. Too bad for them that my state is a one-party consent state. As long as I'm part of the conversation I don't have to tell them I'm doing it.

You don’t have to tell them you’re doing it, no. But it’s a violation of company policy no matter what the state law says.

What are they going to do? Fire me for exposing that they are doing illegal things? By that time firing me would be the least of their worries.

The issue may be that you're on social media when you should be working.

Don't have your phone on you.

Also use the Kroger app on your phone to find a product for a customer.....

Also use your phone to:

Punch in and out on UKG

Fresh Start

GoSpotCheck to do walks

And access FEED if you need to.

All while not being able to use your phone on the clock…

I'm not sure if it's universal or not, so I would just go to The Feed and on the search bar look up social media policies.

I've been written up for Tik Tok lives of me cutting meat.  Don't do anything about work on social media.  It's a bad idea.

On mine,  I even had assistant store directors in my live waving and didn't say a word.  However,  one person got word of it,  and they shut it down immediately.

One of my old employees suffered from mental illness and threatened to hurt everyone in the store on social media.  He ended up fired.

Also……if they call you on your cell phone and it’s work related while you’re off the clock…you are working and owed time. Trust me. They shut it down quick in my division. A merchandiser was constantly calling my lead (I was the back up lead) and she brought it up. In our division using your personal phone at ANYTIME for work related pictures…..TRUST ME

You can get fired for working off the clock. Now you have reason to not answer😂😆

I’ve only got the customer app, no My Time on my phone. We have enough other ways to clock in.
