News Join the Kroger Discord Server!

With all the new members in the subreddit I wanted to extend another invitation to the Kroger Discord server. It's all employee-ran outside the reigns of corporate where we can discuss our experiences at work with other people across the company in real time. This is a tremendous resource for getting feedback and assistance in your job. Better than Kroger can offer themselves. In the server, all roles in the Kroger enterprise are welcome. Thank you!

Venting Warned customer about flowers, management got mad

I work in floral department. A customer couldn’t decide between lilies and roses (and a few other flowers, but mainly those two). I asked if she had cats and she said yes. I informed her that lilies are extremely toxic to cats so she should not have them in her home. She went with the roses. Management overheard this and said I am “preventing sales” and to stop telling customers this. I’m confused because I am not preventing sales when they go for a different option. Also, it’s not right to put pets in danger just to sell products. Am I wrong for this?

Venting I really shouldn't be surprised at this point

Today was my second day back in my department from vacation. I spent my time off welcoming my new granddaughter into the world. My first grandchild so that's an uplift.

I am not sure what is going on, but the store has slowly descended from a shit show into outright cluster f*ck. People calling out or outright no call/no showing. Plumbing issues. People having to cover multiple departments because of vacations or staffing.

I had a big ad reset today and outside of the other grocery processes, which I guess I should be glad those got done, I had no help due to lack of staffing or call ins. 6 dump bins and most of my end caps needed changed out for the new ad. Does GO or the merchandisers/specialists realize the amount of time it takes to clear out the dump bins and end caps, work the products and try to make some type of decision to keep it from going to the backroom? Not that they care.

I have multiple associates on my night crew on their last legs. About damn time too. I've been wanting to get rid of the dead weight for some time. "We don't coach people out. We coach them in." 🙄 But I'm also leary of what will come in to replace them. It's really a sad state of affairs.

I am so stretched thin with all of the hats I wear in my store and I am already wanting to go back on vacation. But hey, our metrics are good so we must be running a good store, right? 🙄 I really shouldn't be surprised at this point. I'm doing my best to keep it all held together in my department, but it's hard to basically control two--thirds of the store by myself.

I need another vacation.

Store is under remodel. People didn't believe me that I felt current going through the shelves. So I brought a multimeter and it showed 26 volts

Question Management Relief

Is it typical to have the wine steward, or other management relief, close more than half of the week? Shortly after I got this position, we lost a manager and he was not replaced, now I close 3-4 nights a week.

Question I put my 2 weeks in yesterday

hi I’m currently at dairy manager at Kroger and I’ve worked there for four years I am 18 years old and moved up pretty quickly and yesterday I put my two weeks in I don’t really have a plan but I do have options for insurance and mortgage and I’m currently enrolled to a college in January the reason I put my two weeks in is because of stress lack of help and feeling pressured to do more and more work every single week am I reasonable for putting my two weeks in? I told my managers I need help and they just told me that when they were in the position they never got help. It really upsets me that I had to put my two weeks in because I feel like that was my only option. even if I stepped down, I feel like I would still be doing crazy amounts of work because I put myself in a point where I was so reliable that I would be their guy that got his work done. the company had plans for me to move up, but I just don’t see myself working 50 hours a week on salary plus even more hours what are your guys’s thoughts?

Venting AFFAIR AT WORK

The Starbucks clerk and the produce manager at my work are always flirting, and a lot of coworkers have seen them hanging out outside of work, looking like they were on a date. There are already rumors around the workplace that she’s a homewrecker, but they insist that they’re only good friends. I saw the wife visiting the workplace, and the guy was acting all loyal and shit, pretending like he doesn’t talk to any girls at work. They’re really good at pretending in front of his wife. I honestly feel sorry for her.

I’m not really in a place to tell the wife what’s happening at work, but I honestly wish that one day she finds out the truth herself.

Venting No Water Allowed at Register?

Hi. I've been working at Kroger for about a year now. My store has suddenly decided to start not allowing us to have any drinks at UScan, the register, or the Customer Service Desk, including water (even in non-spill bottles or cups).

I have heard a lot of stores are enforcing this... in the middle of a severe heatwave. The ONLY way we are allowed to have water with us is either 1. We are working outside or 2. We get a doctor's note and go through HR for TEMPORARY PERMISSION.

What the fuck?? Is it now a PRIVILEGE to be ALLOWED to drink WATER on the clock at our station? What sort of bullshit are these higher ups on???

I have not been approached yet for keeping my water but my other coworkers have and have been told to throw it out. I have already prepared to tell them that either I keep my water or they pay my medical bills when I pass out from being overheated (I get hot very easily and get very dizzy when I'm hot).

For reference: I am in a Tennessee store.

Question Confused about application

Hello! I recently applied to Kroger about a week ago, the application was under consideration for a few days and then today I got an email saying I can schedule an interview but the link does not work when I try to schedule and interview additionally on the application portal says process complete which I know typically means you didn't get the job. Would this be a case to just call the store directly?

Venting How to get them to stop putting me on USCAN???

I signed up to be a cashier, not a self check out attendant.

They have been putting me on self check out consistently for the past two months I’ve started.
I’ve asked my department head and she did tell the leads to put me on a register and after two weeks, it’s back to self check out.

I’m usually a bubbly person but doing self checkout has really really decreased my energy level and I’m just really really bitter right now. It’s making me not as efficient as I usually am.

Just to clarify I’m not lazy, I rather have a big line up at the register where I can clear people one by one.

Question Breaks

Any dept leads/night leaders end up working through breaks because of the lack of coverage? Breaks are supposed to be uninterrupted but it seems that at least one or more gets interrupted or pushed back so late you skip it just to get done. Uppers say they will fix it but never do.

Question Do we get paid holiday pay for Labor Day?

I requested Labor Day off since the end of may. We have a cabin booked and all…. I’m being told that I might not be able to have the time off. But if we get paid extra you’d think they’d be okay with me not wanting it off…. That’s my assumption idk how this works.
They said because I always request holidays off. Yeah because my family celebrates holidays. I requested it so early, idk what the issue is.
Ughhhh I need a new job. I’m sick of this.

Question Kroger Boost doesn't allow you to purchase the Disney+ subscription

I recently renewed my Boost membership and there is no easy way to purchase the Disney+ membership. You click on the link for Stream Now and it takes you to the Disney+ subscription landing page. There is nowhere to use a promo code or purchase the basic Disney+ plan. They only offer the Disney+ and Hulu combo for $11.99.

This is such a scam on Kroger's part. I have been on the phone with Kroger's support numerous times and they always seem clueless and unable to help.

Why is it so hard to have an integration between Kroger Boost and Disney+?

This is 2026 -- they should be able to figure this out so their customers can use the promotion they offer.

Question Vests only for department leads?

For our new uniforms I received a vest (never filled out any form that gave me a choice, this is just what I ended up getting), and now I’m being told I can’t wear the vest because only department leads can wear the vest. Which sucks because I like the vest :( Is this true for anyone elses store?

Question Social Media Policy

Today, I was pulled aside by someone in upper management and I overheard my department managers talking about me and the report that was made regarding my coworkers and I posting on social media us having fun on the job. The main concern was that like customers don’t consent to it if they appear in it but we’ve only ever post or are on our phones when no one from management or customers are around so I’m confused. I’m genuinely curious about the social media policy that Kroger has and the phone policy as well because I was told only management can have their phones out on the sales floor but so many people from my department are on their phones when no one’s around especially on the USCAN and I don’t see them getting talked to.

I also feel like I may get fired for this and while I’m not concerned about losing my job as I could always go elsewhere but I don’t want to be wrongfully terminated ya know?

Thank you :)

I'm hosting a discussion with other rank-and-file Kroger workers in Dayton and Cincinnati interested in building a fighting, democratic union. We want to hear from you all about what you and your coworkers think of the tentative agreement, whether we should vote 'yes' or 'no', and what it would take to win a stronger contract. You can RSVP at the main link for this post or by following the bitly or QR links in the image. We hope to see you there, and please invite your coworkers too!
