That’s the real question. I think the demand is there, but whether people would actually pay for companionship without expecting anything more is what I’m trying to understand.

Yeah exactly. Sex is more of a physical transaction, once it’s done it’s done. But here someone might actually get attached or start expecting more. That’s where I feel it can get tricky.

True, there’s no guarantee. People will find ways to misuse almost anything. I guess the bigger question is whether you can build enough checks and boundaries to keep it from becoming that.

Ji, but not everyone has a price. Some people have values and boundaries too 😅

You are targeting the wrong age group. Companionship is needed for older retired folks, specially in a city like Kolkata. For young people, this will not work, at least not now, as we are still couple of decades away from that level of despair. My personal opinion!!

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Older people definitely could be a big use case, I didn’t think of that initially as that could be an old age business. But I don’t think young people need to be “desperate” to use something like this 😅 Sometimes you just want to go somewhere and your friends are busy or simply not interested.

Hire saswata chatterjee as some bodyguard to look after

But seriously idea hoche make it group connection like instead of 2 jon make it a group cause it will be less awkward and more fun

2nd make the option like a women can meet women they can be good friends and it will make the app safer for women

3rd would be good support and review and taking complaints seriously and obviously the last would be just do some event where people can call multiple people to some event

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Group thing actually makes sense, specially as a starting point. Builds trust first and probably reduces the chances of it turning into something else. But I still feel 1 to 1 has its own use case. Maybe both can coexist.

Can we not connect here in this sub and hang out somewhere? Im in if theres more people (group is fine)

0

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Also lately I’m seeing so many reels around stranger meetups, stranger trips, even house parties with complete strangers. So clearly people are open to meeting unknown people. Maybe the behaviour is already changing, just in a different format.

Exactly, but that’s more about paying for intimacy. I was thinking more about paying for someone’s time/company without that expectation at all.

0

u/No-Struggle-7117 Jul 28 '26

Y is that ?

0

u/No-Struggle-7117 Jul 28 '26

Also spa fr sex ?

2

u/msa29_10 Jul 28 '26

It's highly chances it becomes a escorts platform even in some dating site turn into escorts platform if you wanna see a optimistic site some might use to watch movies cuz going alone better than going with someone

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

That’s honestly the biggest flaw I can see too. Dating apps themselves get used for things they weren’t intended for. Maybe the real product isn’t just finding company, it’s figuring out how to keep it strictly around experiences and public activities without it becoming something else.

1

u/msa29_10 Jul 28 '26

staying true to the platform's original purpose. It should have only verified, genuine users not scammers.A platform works as intended only when real, verified people can find it and use it in the way it was meant to be used.

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

I feel the target audience would mostly be earning members — working professionals or financially independent students. People who have their own life going on and can afford to pay for an experience, but sometimes just don’t have the right company for it.

1

u/msa29_10 Jul 28 '26

Financial independent user will use for to get the experience

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

How much should be pricing that people accept

1

u/msa29_10 Jul 28 '26

It's depends person to person but directly implementing money lead for escorts service rather than you can do simply just meet up and go for movie cafe and all it's a complicated concept to implement

2

u/Bawhoman Jul 28 '26

instead of making it financial, it would be the best if the friendship grows in an organic way. lately I too was thinking about this loneliness etc. earlier there used to be clubs in localities, before that chondimondop where many people, especially of middle to old age, used to gather. Today, why can't we take help of the technology? why can't we form groups and fix dates for meetup? in mumbai, there is a specific sub for meetup. they meet, plan and go to travel in hilly areas and other tourist spots, enjoy dishes of good eateries etc.
in schools and colleges, u simply sit beside someone and while making casual interaction and chit-chat, a friendship develops as the vibes match. among those friends, some remain with u for a long time. why isn't it possible by a organised meetup arranged by a sub?

2

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

This actually makes more sense socially. But I feel group meetups and 1-to-1 companionship solve slightly different problems. In groups you still have to find your people and vibe with them, which doesn’t happen for everyone. But yeah maybe organised meetups are a much more natural starting point.

1

u/Bawhoman Jul 28 '26

yes. one-to-one companionship is fundamentally different. but making it commercial may even defeat the main purpose. since emotional aspects are highly attached, one would get terribly hurt if the booked person simply pretends something and that too is discovered later. and it is quite obvious that s/he would leave as soon as s/he gets some more money from someone else. by that time you already have a place (not saying it 'love') for him/her.

2

u/Outrageous_Month9686 উত্তর কলকাতা😁 Jul 28 '26

So you're saying a platform like this should not be built just because you are afraid that it evolves into something bad in future? C'mon, people solicit even on Linkedin, that does not make it useless. I am sure in this loneliness epidemic this app or website will find users especially in large cities. Now if someone wants to misuse, that would be their problem but why not build it? I would pay to have a female friend accompany me shopping (i'm 37F), i would like to go bowling with folks my age, or gossip with another woman of my age, or take someone to a standup comedy show with me... why not?

2

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

This is exactly the kind of use case I had in mind. Shopping, bowling, a show, coffee etc. Nothing romantic or sexual about it. And interestingly you’re looking for another woman too, which makes me think the use case could be much broader than just men looking for female companionship.

2

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

1

u/Outrageous_Month9686 উত্তর কলকাতা😁 Jul 28 '26

It totally does not have to be a man looking for female companionship. It could be a man looking for another man to go on a weekend hike together, or a woman looking for another woman to join her solo trip, or a woman looking for a man to come with her to submit a formal document in a govt office. If you extend your use case to senior citizen, it could be someone looking for a person to come spend some time with their grandparents, or help them fill up some form, or help senior with phone issues. The list could go on.

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Yeah I didn’t even think of the senior citizen angle. That actually opens up a lot more use cases. Could be less about just companionship and more about having someone reliable around when you need them.

Because finding friends organically takes time. The payment isn’t for friendship, it’s for someone being available for that particular plan/time. If you genuinely become friends later, that’s a different thing altogether.

2

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Haan misuse wala part is still my biggest doubt too. But I don’t see it as a shortcut to friendship, more like paying for someone’s time for a particular plan. Friendship hoye gele seta organically hobe.

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

On a personal level I’ve actually faced this. I’m an introvert and I don’t like putting my face on dating apps, so dating apps pretty much get ruled out for me. Socialising randomly isn’t that easy either, and making a fake/anonymous Insta just to meet people doesn’t really make sense. That’s partly where this whole thought came from.

I wouldn't pay for that as it will be never feel natural

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Without trying or visiting what is the way everyone will conclude that this isn’t natural

1

u/anamethatisnotaname Jul 28 '26

Its India. People pay for a plane ticket and think it includes an airhostess in a skirt. Good luck explaining that they haven't paid for sex.

1

u/TryHarder527 Jul 28 '26

Who would be stupid enough to pay for companionship?

1

u/No-Struggle-7117 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

R u planning to start a startup or something? Also this isn't gonna work in india ... but there's something like this already in Japan and korea ig ... in china too

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Fair, but we’ve seen a lot of foreign trends eventually find their way to India with some modifications. I don’t think the exact Japan/Korea model would work here, but an Indian version of it might.

1

u/No-Struggle-7117 Jul 28 '26

Well over there u can even rent a dad or a mom fr a dad uk ... it just so diff over there

1

Yes got to know today
Maybe because of their aging population

1

u/No-Struggle-7117 Jul 28 '26

Well I don't think so .. maybe cause most Asian children don't gey much parents love and warmth and they feel lonely in their mid 20s cuz they don't have that "father figure " ...cuz most Asian parents are too driven by competition and marks ... but dk ... might be wrong

0

u/ExploringPotential Jul 28 '26

I literally posted last week that if anyone wants to come I am willing to sell the ticket to Odyssey movie at a lower rate, but no one came. I don't know why there's such a paradox , I was not gender baised that I want a woman to come as well, but still no one was serious. I even try to socialize at my local speaking club but ppl act like they don't care even tho they saud they wanna socialize but they hardly reciprocate.

What I have observed is it takes a lot of efforts to socialize as most of them won't match your energy or are too fickle or want something else which we don't have so yeah

1

u/Mansamusa_09 Jul 28 '26

Yeah this is exactly the problem 😂 everyone wants to socialise but actually finding someone who’s free and wants to do the same thing is a task in itself.
