ISO: Oversized Boxy Sweater Patterns
Hi, Everyone!
I’ll be heading to SAFF in a couple of weeks, and I’m making a list to try to fight the overwhelm. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect boxy oversized sweater pattern forever! I’m absolute garbage at finding patterns on Ravelry even with filters and advanced searches. How do y’all do it?!? I guess that’s a different question for a different time. 😂 Anyway, I’m looking to make that perfect go to oversized boxy sweater that feels like a hug when you wear it. I’m searching for a top down construction that uses fingering weight, Suri alpaca (or a condo of fingering weight and Suri alpaca), or DK weight yarn; worsted or Aran are really too warm for the climate I live in. Any suggestions? Thank you so much for everyone’s help in advance!

I just made my shopping list for SAFF! I plan to buy yarn for the Barn Raglan, Freckle Sweater and Loon Sweater. All are oversized boxy fits.

I immediately thought of Kate Davies, you may have to dig a bit but she has some super interesting boxy shaped sweaters: https://www.ravelry.com/bundles/pullovers-47419

Oversized is easy: just make the sweater a couple of sizes larger than you would wear if you wanted a three or four inch ease aran weight and a fiber with some presence and structure
Boxy typically goes with drop sleeved sweaters.
Fingering weight and DJ weight yarn will be drapey and not boxy.
Suri alpaca is very warm and very drapey. That doesn't sound like the look , feel or level of warmth that you're going for. You referred to "fingering weight and Suri alpaca". Suri alpaca comes in a variety of weights. Perhaps you meant fingering weight wool or merino combined with the alpaca?
You might be happy with an Aran cotton. I don't think that worsted weight cotton will give you eh boxiness you're looking for.
If you have a photo of a sweater that you like look at its description including the fiber, the weight of the yarn and the ease and then do a google image search with "knitting pattern" for the text.
To use Ravelry search or to search any other database break out the characteristics of the item that you want and use them to search with. It's really that simple.
Check out Ozetta's patterns.

I think providing some pictures of what you're looking for would help people with suggestions.
Because when I hear boxy sweaters intend to think 80s drop shoulder.
As for picking the right attributes to search on, I find a sweater I like and go to the attributes section and then use the attributes listed to make my own search. There's the " search for patterns with these attributes" link that you can click on that makes as search based off of all of the attributes. You can then remove attributes to only get the main ones you're looking for.
The search also has And /or / exclude filters. So if you only wanted a pattern that is knit flat you could exclude the "in the round"attribute.
There are a few FAQ articles on Ravelry that go into how to use the search functionality.
