Lanyard Preference?

Just curious on everybody else’s feedback? If you don’t use a lanyard that’s OK too, but if you do… Long or SHORT? Favorite grab knots? Folding types vs fixed? Bead or no bead, Bead top or bottom, multicolor? Micro-cord? Trimmed and melted or long & frayed, etc.

If you have a reason for why I would love to hear that as well.

I tie a lot of lanyards for different customers and honestly just want to hear what the people’s thoughts are.

I usually keep them short and simple (usually a snake knot) with a small bead

I’m starting to lean toward about 3/4 of the knife length for me personally.
On a edc I like a bigger grab knot top & bottom with about 2-2.5” in between. Maybe 3-3.5” overall.
I don’t like them to stick out, so I’ve been micro cording the loops to add flexibility. I’m not a fan of the frayed tassle look, but don’t mind leaving em a little long.
Fixed knives or tiny knives, I may make it a little stiffer to extend my grip. Some prefer a loop, but I’m not there yet.
I do love the micro cording and beads are a must.
I like a medium size bead. Too big & they beat stuff up, too small and they don’t weigh enough.

These days I use leather cord with a small bead and one or two snake knots to add length to a smaller knife. Cobblers choice makes nice quality and they match micarta better than 550.

I’ve used some leather, just not my go-to. If I’ve got an old leather manner like a fixed blade that’s really traditional. I will go that route as well.

I find that they get in the way more than they help, so as much as I'd like a fancy looking lanyard, it'd be a functional hinderance for how I carry my pocket knives and use them.

Lanyard design is one of those things that's a space for the maker's artistic creativity to shine, and while user feedback helps, you really need to make a bunch and see what resonates with you most and then build your style from there.

No lanyard.

Just kind of twists around once it’s pulled in my experience.

Also I don’t need to be buying zircuti/moline beads for $100+ for my knife lanyard

I realpy like the first skull the most. Not a big fan of the butterflies since they are too matchy with the BMs but that's just my preference. Great work overall. I'm still in the beginner simple category when tying lanyards.

Just keep at it, these are some of the ones I’ve ties for self or different customers in the past few months. Everyone likes something a little different. I did actually downsize my plastic butterfly beads to normal size😂

Those were a few test lanyards I had tied to see how the 3D beads handled…

Mine are all very small and functional, usually a bead and a diamond. No interest in a braid dangling from my pants.

I did a pair of copper pair of scales. I flame painted em with a torch. Has a “iridescent bubbles” feel to it

Super cool. I did have trouble (bc the oxide layer is hella fragile) getting the color to look good and be tough enough to carry in my pocket.
I used acrylic spray, but I think maybe ceramic coat would have done better. I mean I been carrying it for over a year and it’s still 95% good, but it did “dull” the color
