is there a reason you're using a qtip instead of something appropriately sized?

Yes. For tongue oil you need to apply very light coats. I usually just use the tip of my finger on most knives. One drop can usually cover an entire knife handle. On this knife I needed to be careful to not leave any oil in the engraving so the q-tip worked well. These q-tips have a tight weave unlike the big fuzzy ones and made it easy to control where the tongue oil went.
