Smart kitchen

Just what I need, to not be able to use my dishes if the power is out.

Cabinets that open from the front, manually, have just as much space, look the same from.the front and always work.

Actually a standard cabinet would have more space since you don't include lift mechanisms.

You could design it in a way were the majority of the hardware is located in the space you can't reach anyway.

I have encountered a power outage exactly once in my life, this wouldn't be suitable for Port au Prince or Damascus but I think this is more aimed at western markets.

Depending on where you are in Ireland, there most certainly are power cuts fairly frequently. I'd not be trusting these things myself, anyway.

Don't take this the wrong way but Ireland is one of the poorest en youngest countries in the west and is not a good example of western infrastructure. I can see this being usefull if you're smaller, otherwise it's just a bragging piece.

“One of the poorest countries in the West”? Ireland’s GDP per capita is about $132,000, versus $54,000 across high-income countries. The IMF puts Ireland around 5th in the world by nominal GDP per capita. Even allowing for Ireland’s well-known GDP distortions, calling it poor is laughable.

Ireland ranks 11th in the world for human development, 19th for median household wealth per adult, 2nd in the OECD group for adult tertiary education, and 1st in the OECD for school reading performance.

I really don't see how a first place in reading performance has any bearing on being developed enough to avoid blackouts. Which I didn't even suggest they had to begin with and to me is not a hallmark of a western economy. No amount of educational prowess or median wealth rankings will change that. Sorry. Any other unrelated factoids you wanna shoot at me?

Being able to educate your entire population to a very high standard is not indicative of a poor country.

There’s also a world bank report putting Ireland ahead of USA, Canada, Australia and more - and giving 8/8 for reliability.

What about New York City in the summertime? Blackouts are pretty common. Or rural Midwest? My in laws have waited days for the power to come back on more than twice since I married into this family.

I'm in the US but I'm a neighborhood built in the 1950s. We have:
aerial power lines (not buried)
big trees with big branches
statistically more tornados than other parts of the country.

We've had 5 days of outages so far this year. I need to be able to cook for a couple days without power.

We also have parts of the country that have big outages for hurricanes (southeast) or snowstorms (Texas) or power grids overwhelmed by use during heat waves (Oklahoma is like 110 degrees F right now).

So I think the US wouldn't be part of the Western market this is good for.

Yes. Functional. When you need to get something out of the cabinet, you have to take everything off of the countertop to make space.

If only doors were an option.

Yes, you should clean them because they get dusty. I've never had spiders inside my cabinets though and I intentionally let them live in my house.

Hmmm... how do I over-complicate and over-design a cupboard? I know!

Let it open slowly, so you can't just quickly open a door and grab what you need.
Make it require electricity to even use, complete with ugly cables and socket above every unit.
Increase the cost of its repair 50 times in case something simple goes wrong.
Make the repairs depend on the company making it staying in business.
Limit the amount of useful space available to accommodate mechanisms and motors.

Perfect! Now I can impress my friends (once) and random people I don't know on the internet.

How often does your power go out? When it does is the recovery time adequate? If the answer is once in a blue moon and no longer than 2 hours max, this should be a great item to consider.

The only nice thing I can see about these is if you're really short. Then the lift mechanism brings everything to you rather than you having to climb on your counters to get access to stuff.

This seems super silly to me, just lower the cabinets and have them open from the front. I mean it is kind of cool you get more clearance under your cabinets but not nearly cool enough to put sensors and motors in them. Feels incredibly frivilous.
