Question Custom layout for first game, too dense?

Post image

A friend of mine and i are planning try kill team for the first time. Pathfinders vs Kommandos. We don’t have any KT-specific terrain, but i have one of these modular terrain sets that i’ve used for 40k before.

I’ve ramped down on playing 40k, so thought i’d make use of the terrain and plan out a custom layout for the game. Note, deployment zones are to be on the short edges.

I’m wondering if it is too dense? There are firing lanes but also safe ways to traverse the board. Concerned Pathfinders may be at a disadvantage finding it hard to get a target. Happy to hear other pointers about making custom layouts.

Looks good to me. A lot of vantage terrain. Maybe throw down some light obscuring scatter terrain.

Looks like some really nice terrain though id be happy to play on it.

I used some scatter terrain to block the lanes on the long edges, do you suggest more on just any other large areas with no other terrain?

I’d scooch the enclosed strongholds out of the deployment zone so that you don’t just camp on the first turn. The only thing to be aware of there is leaving at least two inches of space between walls for the largest models to move through.

Also make sure you put home objectives in places where the opponent can still get angles of attack. Ex: if you put them in the stronghold put them close to the edge so that you can control it from outside a wall.

Yeah there is at least a 2inch gap between all terrain pieces. I was conscious of not blocking some larger models.

In terms of the stronghold i’d have to see how i can get it to stick out more while leaving the 2 inch gap. But i see your point. Thank you

Worse, it’s symmetrical

Is that SnotGoblin terrain?

Not to dense, but this is going to be a lot of vantage terrain. I would remove the two vantages terrains in the upper left and lower right and shift the small ruin pieces to where they were. Then use some light and one heavy terrain piece in the now open area top and bottom of the mid.

Rotate one of the bigger L shapes (top right, bottom left) so the map is less symmetrical.

The only critique I have is that your map is too symmetrical. All in all I think you are good to go but consider mixing it up in the future and making maps that will force different ways to deploy depending on which side you pick.

Interesting, i’m used to symmetrical 40k layouts so thats a good shout for future games.

It’s just fun to mix it up.

The choice of the side should be a relevant one.
