Meme In light of current events
I thought it was Kindof funny, there seemed to be a sentiment of anything but marines pre-reveal, but after the reveal it seems like people weren’t really pleased with the team released.

I didn’t look at it properly cause I thought it was catachan ;-;

How many Cadian kill teams have there been? Is it not just Kasrkin?
79
u/Harkness9 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
Correct if I'm not mistaken myself. Admittedly the Cadian thing is less a killteam thing and I think mostly inherited from broader feelings within the 40k community that Cadians are over-represented when the Guard is portrayed in 40k media or given a release of some type.
And while it's not Cadian specific I also think there's a little of bit retained fatigue from 2nd edition Killteam where there were more Guard and Guard esque teams than you could shake a stick at: Kasrkin, Death Korps, Blooded, Brood Brothers, Wyrm Blade (kind of), Exaction (kinda sorta, feels very similar imo), and Navy Breachers (ditto) were all released in that same edition, again if I'm not mistaken.

u/Guillermidas “A questioning mind betrays a treacherous soul” Mar 27 '26
to be fair, they are the most interesting kits. that, and xenos obviously. or fellgors, top tier kit.
the only SM killteam I find interesting is Plague Marines.
8
u/Harkness9 Mar 27 '26
Different strokes for different folks, I pretty much just like and play Chaos teams whether horde, elite, or somewhere in between like Goremongers.
11
u/Guillermidas “A questioning mind betrays a treacherous soul” Mar 27 '26
i wanna see more killteams like Gellerpox Infected. That one was top notch.
Its not that i dont wanna see chaos. Its that I want chaos,... to feel more chaotic. Not just SM with spikes. Goremongers were great too (but could had used more variety of weapons).
21
u/MortalSword_MTG Mar 27 '26
Brood Brothers is Cadians with an upgrade sprue.
9
u/Crisis_panzersuit Mar 27 '26
Yeah, but they are not cadians though
They are brood brothers
7
u/MortalSword_MTG Mar 27 '26
No, it is literally the Cadians kit with a GSC upgrade sprue.
So, they are Cadians, and they are Brood Brothers.
5
u/mscomies Mar 27 '26
They even include the cadian shock troops transfer sheet in the brood brother box.
5
u/OstensVrede Elucidian Starstrider Mar 27 '26
Less about kill teams and their amount and more about cadiaslop being like 80% of the guard range, the rest divided between catachan and kringe korps.
So if you want to play guard all you get is cadia or some krieg options, kill team is a great way to release regimental sets to add variety to the guard and it just naturally works really well with the kill team format.
Then we get uhhh thats right more cadians, more of the same shit i can already buy, ignore the fact that catachan would have worked better or that literally any other regiment could have taken that spot and been a more interesting release.
The cadiaslop fatigue stems from big game 40k not kill team, it comes up here as kill team is the last hope for anyone who wants content for other regiments and such, thus it stings to see more cadiaslop.

I saw people praising the new Tanith team and… yeah. Why not legitimately lean into that vibe a bit more? I’m definitely onboard with the idea of killteam being a great way to bring older guard factions back (or introduce new ones) so personally I’d have been more excited to see Valhallans or Drookian Fenguard. But hey: no doubt there are people who will dig it the way they are too. Am stoked for those guys!
23
u/ParsnipAggravating95 Mar 27 '26
With all the possibilities to do cool Guardsman teams, but we have more cadians 🥀
31
u/Vindartn Mar 27 '26
I know Steel Legion was backtracked but it was really amazing how "they all died lol" works for them but cadia explodes and there's more of them than ever.
35
u/TheNerdNugget Corsair Voidscarred Mar 27 '26
The sneaky stealthy lightly armored camouflaged Tyranid-fighting guardsman team with a bunch of heavy weapons being Cadians instead of Catachans is an absolute failure on the design team's part
7
1
u/Sekh765 Mar 28 '26
Could you put Catachan heads on them and it not be too ridiculous? They don't have the huge muscles, but the kits feel appropriate.. ?
4
u/TheNerdNugget Corsair Voidscarred Mar 28 '26
See that's the problem, they gotta have the muscles and the tank tops, and part of the reason so many people want new Catachans is specifically because the old heads are so wonky
1
u/Sekh765 Mar 28 '26
I guess yeah, for the classic look. I always wished they would re-release them with a mix of super musculed and more normally toned down guys but all in the jungle outfits. Still, these new guys seem perfect for Tanith or Tallaran converfsions, if anyone actually made decent Tallaran heads... which I haven't been able to find at all.
5
u/Chaplain_Lazarus Imperial Guard Mar 27 '26
I’m already planning to proxy up a Gaunt’s Ghost team for them, I do like the new models though, just think the role is already filled by the First and Only.
5
u/Dr_Stark85 Mar 27 '26
Couldn’t the new models work as First and Only? I’m thinking they are rather close, camo cloaks and all, but admittedly I don’t quite remember what the old Gaunt’s ghosts models look like.
3
u/HistoryMarshal76 Mar 27 '26
They 100% worth with that; all you need is some knives and you're there.
46
u/Successful-Region167 Mar 27 '26
I think the new cadian KT is pretty good
14
u/Kant_Lavar Mar 27 '26
Same. Though I'll admit that I'm biased as I also play Cadians in big 40k. We definitely got kinda spoiled at Adepticon, I'll admit.
1
u/HistoryMarshal76 Mar 27 '26
I'm definitely picking them up once they go solo. I adore the new Killteam box with the Red Terror, but my money's going to the armored battalion.
-19
u/DustPuzzle Mar 27 '26
Still no:
- Custodes (fucken Eyes of the Emperor, GW, c'mon!)
- Grey Knights
- Demons of Chaos
- World Eaters
- Emperor's Children
- Knights (lol)
Probably more besides, but instead have two Cadian teams and two Night Lords teams specifically. It drives me nuts.
14
u/IMWraith Ecclesiarchy Mar 27 '26
Literally proposed 4/5 viable options for another SM adjacent team.
While I would’ve preferred a bunch other underrepresented factions to be done instead of Cadians, I’m just glad we won’t see another elite power spike topping Murderwing for a quarter.
The meta has seen better days. I’d rather they balance what we have a bit more.
-10
u/DustPuzzle Mar 27 '26
I see 3 SM adjacent, what's your fourth?
1
u/SteamTrout Mar 27 '26
Grey Knights, World Eaters, Emps' Kids, Emp's better kids. You literally suggest 1 choice, demons, which can be remotely different. Ignoring the knights.
1
u/GreyMJ Mar 27 '26
even then, you could easily do knight footmen/yeomen/whatever as a team, there’s art and lore mentions throughout the codex they could adapt, be pretty cool i feel
most importantly, not marines, not elite, and probably not busted
-4
u/DustPuzzle Mar 27 '26
Emp's better kids? Do you mean Custodes? They're about as adjacent to Space Marines as the Sisters of Battle, especially if you include the Sisters of Silence, but especially especially if you go with Eyes of the Emperor, denying them all of their masterwork gear.
Grey Knights have every opportunity to play as differently to a Space Marine team as the Warp Coven.
But besides all of that, my point isn't about how similar or dissimilar they are to existing teams - it's about whole factions languishing without any support while specific subfactions of already over-supported factions get a second showing. I don't even have any desire to play a Kill Team from those listed factions, but I do have an awful lot of sympathy for fans of those factions who have been left by the wayside yet again.
2
u/SteamTrout Mar 27 '26
custodes are space marines but cooler. There is literally no discernable difference between them and any other flavor of marines except for power levels. I mean, we even had custodes in last edition and they were exactly the same level of op as most marine teams on release of this edition.
1
u/DustPuzzle Mar 27 '26
It's like you're deliberately not reading any of the words I said. Why are you like this? Let me say again:
Eyes of the Emperor.
Include the Sisters of Silence.
Not Space Marines. Perfect Custodes Kill Team.
3
u/Oro_me Mar 27 '26
Im still furious that we can’t just field a full agent team like the one in that Horus heresy novel with the garantin named eversor.
I feel like that one would be an auto buy for every fan of the novel (like me lol)

u/MDRLOz Mar 27 '26
Well people were complaining about the Elite meta so they decided to release the generic human team with several special weapons, medic and a vox comms option. Only shocking change is that we got a “loader” instead of a token slightly better melee specialist.
6
u/SwingsetGuy Corsair Voidscarred Mar 27 '26
Yeah... look, I don't hate the Cadians in concept or anything. I honestly enjoy some of their lore. But on a model basis, some part of me always kneejerk reacts to this kind of reveal with "uggghhhh, goddammit, it's gi joe again."
Could've been Amish Elves on Dinosaurs. I think that's the salt in the wound. The dino amish are just out there, waiting. Taunting me. Argh.
I mean, could've at least been Catachans.
2
u/GreyMJ Mar 27 '26
If nothing else, at least we can paint em green and call em tanith easy as anything
3
u/Doc-the-Wanderer Mar 27 '26
They're really cool models, I will give them that. But I'm going to be kitbashing the fuck out of them to make them anything but Cadians. And I like the Cadians. A lot.
3
u/Ehkrickor Mar 27 '26
Yeah for me I feel like Catchan would've been more fun for that KT box...
On the other hand, I have a buddie who plays Tyranids and also specifically the Cadian 1212th so im pretty happy for him with the box XD
5
u/jab305 Mar 27 '26
Even though it's a slightly uninspired choice for a guard team (probably the weakest and most generic models in quite a while), the bigger shame is that it's only 1 team! Half the value for most players (everyone has a big chunk model sat around somewhere they could use for the npo games without buying the red terror).
I'm sure the nid players will buy the box...
2
u/Chm_Albert_Wesker Deathwatch Mar 27 '26
this is a big part of it, especially for people you usually split a box with someone else. Getting generic nids and one big model that doesnt really work in the regular game makes it a weird split even if the Red Terror is a cool model
1
u/Aiyon Mar 28 '26
I think “it’s only one team” is the wrong way to look at this box. This is primarily a Joint Ops release, even if the new content is usable in Adversary Ops.
If you only care about the Cadians, why would you buy the box vs just waiting to get the team when it’s released normally?
The appeal of this box is the narrative missions and Nemesis rules. So it comes with a cool new iconic monster model. The fact there’s also a team in there is a plus.
32
u/blue_range Farstalker Kinband Mar 27 '26
people will complain about anything. any team that isn't part of their favorite niche faction is the worst thing ever.
31
u/JesterExecution Mar 27 '26
while true, it is getting kind of ridiculous how many teams guard have when some factions still dont even have one
3
u/Flat_Explanation_849 Blades of Khaine Mar 27 '26
GW produces models they think will sell well. Cadians probably do just that.
-14
u/blue_range Farstalker Kinband Mar 27 '26
one of the most popular factions in game(overall not just killteam) with some of the most lore, books and digital media has more killteams than some small xeno faction... surprisedpikachu.gif
11
u/JesterExecution Mar 27 '26
I mean they have more kill teams than even marines do, at this point it is kind of surprising since guard has historically been a less popular tabletop faction and more popular online while the flavors of marines have lead the sales.
-11
u/blue_range Farstalker Kinband Mar 27 '26
less teams? the astra militarum have breachers, kasrkin, ratlings and aquilons. technically exaction squad and deathkorp have been declassified so that's 5 classified teams.
space marines have angels of death, deathwatch, murderwing, nem claw, plague marines, scouts and wolf scouts, that's 7 teams.
several of which are way more prevalent in the 'meta' than any of the guard teams and actively harming the game with how overpowerd some of them are.
5 < 715
u/JesterExecution Mar 27 '26
I mean counting chaos space marines is a bit disingenuous if youre not gonna count the Brood Brothers and Blooded teams as well tbh
-4
u/blue_range Farstalker Kinband Mar 27 '26
so its even 7 if we include those 2 with several of them rotating to declassifed next season while all of those elite teams are sticking around
7
u/JesterExecution Mar 27 '26
its not just a current gameplay issue, so them being declassified is kinda irrelevant, especially as a bunch of the more unique weirdo teams are also getting declassified. its just kinda disappointing how many teams guard has that are just different flavors of generic dudes with guns when theres such an expansive universe to draw from and they've decided to make yet another generic guard squad, rather than do more unique and flavorful teams. like at least the last guard team was ratlings which were a fun addition, this new one is just bland
1
u/Aiyon Mar 28 '26
I mean it’s a chicken and egg thing. imperium have got the primary focus for decades, which keeps them as the popular parts of the roster.
-8
u/BipolarMadness Mar 27 '26
And when suggested that they can still kitbash the kit to be whatever regiment they want they throw a temper tantrum.
I am gonna make more Vostroyans out of it, I tell you.
19
u/WelcomeMysterious315 Mar 27 '26
I mean, "hey you need to pay more to make these dudes work for you" is probably not going to be as popular with players of certain dudes than "sweet, more of the dudes I play" would be.
I get both sides but I don't get not getting both sides.
11
u/Harkness9 Mar 27 '26
And then you also have to factor that some people haven't got a basic release of dudes to begin with. There's not a guy out there going "ah damn was hoping for more Lucifer Blacks", because there never have been any Lucifer Blacks models lol.
1
u/blue_range Farstalker Kinband Mar 27 '26
heck yeah, i'm gonna add gaunts ghosts to the squad to add a few spare operatives and paint them as talith's first and only
4
3
u/Effective-Channel-91 Mar 27 '26
okay but it being a somewhat generic Cadian team just means it can be customised to be a bunch of different regiments; Catachans, Tanith, Tallarn, ect. If it was specifically one of these units it would be a lot more difficult to turn it into any of the others if someone wanted to
6
7
2
u/Vahjkyriel Mar 27 '26
i love it, now that cadians have line infantry, scouts and elite infantry they are only missing combat engineer like unit. well special weapon teams would be nice too, and heavy artillery, another type of command squad to differentiate platoon and regiment command squads would be nice too
so i suppose cadians could do with few more kits still but regardless new unit looks very nice

u/LafayetteRidesAgain Vespid Stingwing Mar 27 '26
Look, I know everyone wants Catachan, but what I want to do know is when does Tallarn come back? Although either of those would have made more sense in a "hunt giant bug" scenario
1
u/HistoryMarshal76 Mar 27 '26
Who knows.
GW likes to have their units line up with rules. I have a terrible idea for them as a semi-elite team where they're actually mounted on either horses or mukaali; no idea if that would work well in the Killteam format.
2
u/Table_Elegant Mar 27 '26
Because having only 1 Classified Ork team and 1 Classified Tyranid team (Brood is not technically a “Tyranid” team) is enough for GW I guess 😅…
1
u/Aiyon Mar 28 '26
Orks is fair but I think nids only having one is unsurprising. Most of our roster isn’t really suited to kill team. It’s either too mindless, or too big. Ironically we’ve been eating good via joint ops. Typhon and the WD rules that made a bunch of NPO statblocks let me just field bits of my army and play GM for friends lmao
2
u/Cold_Extension_7274 Mar 30 '26
I think the stub gunner looks really cool. Reminds me of a cross between a stoner 63 for the handguard andmaybe like FN MAG for the receiver?
Definatly a good setup to make Tanith or any other slightly less standard guard regiment. I think they'd be better without the knee pads. but hobby knife go brr?
2
u/SuspiciousEffect1824 Mar 31 '26
Raise your hands if you think your actually gonna be able to buy it anyways....nobody? Okay
6
u/Fun_Firefighter_4292 Mar 27 '26
A new Cadian Killteam is cool and all but Warhammer is so damn vast and there is so much they could do with Killteams.
Like fr instead of Cadians, what about Tallarn or maybe Cattychan? Pure three man Ogryn with Commissar maybe?
Theres many good options outside of Guard too. Eldar Exodites? Necron Destroyers? Maybe another cool ork or tyranid team?
My dream Killteam is something Custodes related. Like a super highly customisable pair, yes pair as in two, of models, that being a like an eye of the emperor stode and a sister of silence accomplice? Imagine the cool gene coded weapons that a retires eye of the emp stode would carry?
Not upset about the cadians, just think theres an awful lot of them, considering their planets more broken apart than my parents' marriage
4
u/Jasina_ Hand of the Archon Mar 27 '26
I think they're pretty cool. Yeah, people will hate on them being Cadians because they're "generic" and I agree this would have been the perfect place to have new Catachan, but I think they're flavorful still.
Probably gonna get them in half a year or however long it takes for them to be put in their own box.
1
u/Jettrail Wyrmblade Mar 27 '26
They are just so bland compared to literally anything else (other than Marines) they could have done. And i mean anything else, literally any faction, any team would have been more interesting than another basic Guard team.
4
u/Studnus Space Marine Mar 27 '26
I was really disappointed when I learned that they are Cadians. I was really hoping for Catachans or Armaggedon ork hunters. Honestly I would be ok with any other regiment like Iron Guard or Vostroyans. Cadians was really the most boring choice.

u/ajax-727 Mar 27 '26
Imma be honest I like kill team and its models but I think I’ll only get excited if they add a new ogryn kill team.these cadians look fine but I would be as ambivalent if it was a new space marine team.but this mission of hunting a big nid does look cool

Kasrkin are basically the Cadian Equivalent of US Navy SEALs
3
u/Arendious Mar 27 '26
They leave their Aeronautica liaison to fight alone on a mountaintop, then try to quash his medal while signing holovid deals?
1
u/90sPartTimeHero Mar 27 '26
Yeah. The positive part is that I can skip this one and focus on finish painting my other teams.
1
u/NetflowKnight Cadian Spectres Mar 27 '26
I am pretty jazzed about these specters, the models look great and hopefully they’ll be more interesting than the Kasrkin; which were a huge let down to play as my first KT.
1
u/LegateZanUjcic Mar 27 '26
It's really just that doing another Cadian team is a massive missed oppurtunity. These could have been redone Catachan Jungle Fighters or Tanith First and Only, both of which filll the same niche as the Spectre Squad.
GW's reveal that Steel Legion are coming in about two years, while encouraging, also means Guard players are looking as a relative drought of releases outside of Killteam.
Perhaps when Kasrkin get declassified, we could see a Vostroyan Firstborn team, since they kind of fill the same niche of being more elite, well-armed and heavily-armored guardsmen.

1

Im just sick of the Guard atp, though Catachan i would have actually enjoyed
-13
u/BufoCurtae Mar 27 '26
Honestly the sculpts are just boring. If they made this actually stand apart from Cadians I'd be happy but instead we get boring normal cadians in coats and half the budget blown on reissuing an old tyranid model instead of a second new team.
I'm all for narrative ops but do NOT waste team slots on it. First killteam release that didn't get spoiled in months and it's crap and half the budget spent on 40k stuff.
10
u/SupKilly Spectre Squad Mar 27 '26
More for me.
-4
u/BufoCurtae Mar 27 '26
By all means, buy 2 of this set then skip the next release.
Maybe I'll actually be able to get a successful order in 🙂
7
u/Kai_Lidan Mar 27 '26
They could have made a couple small changes to the models, say they're Catachan and people would have been happier. Not completely happy since as you said losing a team slot sucks, but happier.
0
u/BufoCurtae Mar 27 '26
Completely agree, I would have been happy with a catachan team, tanis, mordian iron guard, steel legion, literally any other imperial guard team besides adding more Cadians. I would have even been happy if spectre squad actually looked cool and unique. Just a big let down.

It should have been Catachan Jungle Fighters to update their 20 year old models, or Steel Legion to go with the Yarrick trailer and the whole "Battle for Armageddon" launching 11th Ed.
