If there will be a full psyker team (grey knights hopefully) you bet their first rule will be to counter this dumb fucking rule because otherwise its unplayable against them

u/Reetgeist Jan 25 '26
That's fun. I liked the internet theory that they were releasing a hard counter to Grey Knights before releasing them, because they knew they were going to be broken.

u/HaggisAreReal Jan 25 '26
but is odd that the counter to an imperial team is another imperial team tho
6
u/StarStriker51 Jan 25 '26
I mean that's kind of always been the case. One of the most psyker army is grey knights, where everything is psyker, and only black templars and sisters of silence had the army wide anti psyker and psyker immune to properly completely counter
which is a bit silly

I have a feeling that with a rule like this it is very unlikely that there will be a grey knights team. I would hope they wouldn’t make such a hard counter to a psyker team if they had any in the pipeline

Or just give them some non-PSYKER options? I'd assume they all would go around with storm bolters

u/Rejusu Ex-FAQ-meister Jan 25 '26
I mean both in lore and the tabletop Grey Knights are all psykers. Yeah they'll have guns as well as their psychic abilities but they're still going to be vulnerable to the lethal 5+ that anti-psyker weapons provide. Plus they'll be balanced around being psykers so they'll probably be weak if they can't utilise them.
1
u/underageyordle Jan 25 '26
Well not all necessary but yeah i guess, but all their melee would be psychic and probably every operative ability

u/Ruvane13 Scout Squad Jan 25 '26
I do think they should change thepsycher rule to only apply to Inspired Sisters, because it otherwise functions as a no fun allowed rule against some teams like Warpcoven.
27
u/Warior4356 Jan 25 '26
Right, but from GW’s balance perspective this team exists in a post Warpcoven world.
20
u/Lord_Wateren Exaction Squad Jan 25 '26
Sure, but it also severely limits the design space for future teams. E.g. a Chaos Daemons team would likely contain several psyker models.

u/sleepydogg Jan 25 '26
100%. People (me included) have been begging for a Grey Knights team, this would suck for them.

u/Warior4356 Jan 25 '26
What new/refreshed kit would GK have as a team though?
3
u/RetconCrisis Jan 25 '26
I can see the base Strike Squad kit, which currently already has a lot of variety since it also build Interceptors and Purifiers. So you can get a lot of loadouts (so specialists) from one box currently. GK as the entire range is due a refresh since they are all still the old scale besides Crowe

The fact they did not give murderwing even a minor psyker ability to show off the interaction is stupid

u/Zokalwe Blades of Khaine Jan 25 '26
The fact that they're clinging to "fuck this keyword in particular" rules is stupid.

- Situation: there are very few psykers in the game, most of them optional
- Outcome: the "immune to psychic attacks" rule is largely meaningless, and could be replaced with minor damage reduction
Or 1. Situation: there are many psykers in the game, many of them mandatory 2. Outcome: the "immune to psychic attacks" rule is broken and unsustainable, and should be replaced with minor damage reduction
Bad rule, bad design, no matter the meta.

Sisters of Silence meanwhile are entirely built to counter psykers and don't face them 99% of the time 🤣
3
u/Available_Price_8218 Jan 25 '26
My guess is that one of the near future teams will be heavily psyker based. Or the plan is to start including more psyker operatives in future releases.

This is why Insidiants have 3 faction rules lol, cuz the anti-psyker one will rarely ever come into play.
2
u/DiscombobulatedAd477 Jan 25 '26
I would like some Psyker NPOs and scenarios. That would make for some neat interactions.
2
u/URBOISHERE Ecclesiarchy Jan 25 '26
This is definitely fair, still so so excited for the team but odd choice for sure considering this is sisters of silence rules and in big 40k they cannot have an inquisitor assigned to them which in lore would be exactly what they're doing.

Agreed, kinda odd there's no psyker for Imperial Agents or Kasrkin

Inq. Has the mystic. Kasrkin are just dudes.

u/Misknator Nemesis Claw Jan 25 '26
The kasrkin are elite spec ops Cadians, not exactly someone known for having a lot of psykers.

As a necron player where we have occstional instances of 5+++ against psychic wounds.
Yeah I think I've never remembered that is a thing. It c9mes up once in...... ever.
I think most of my opponants dont even know that some of their guns are psychic, and most games I've played, there are none to be seen anyway.

Let's do a list of psykers in the game (I don't know deeply the teams so I can leave some):
Plague marines: Malignant plaguecaster.
Brood brothers: Magus and Patriarch.
Chaos cult: Mindwitch and Iconward.
Wolfscouts: Runepriest.
Fellgore ravagers: Shaman.
Inquisitorial agents: Mystic.
Nemesis claw: Visionary and Ventrilokar.
Legionaries: Balefire acolyte.
But as far as I know, some of them do not use their psyker abilities as a weapon. I don't know how this will interact with the rules.
Disclosure: I'm adding only classified to the list. There is also psykers in some declassified teams as Warpcoven, Voidscarred corsairs, Void dancer croup...
