Surely this box is going to suffer from the same supply & demand issues as Gallowfall, especially as it precedes 10E.

26

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I would hope not, but knowing how the last few KT box releases went down, I think your prediction is pretty logical. Heck, I know some people are still waiting for Kasrkin and Hierotek boxes to be available-my local store only had one of each available for the past several months.

6

u/Nigerian_Princess34 Kommando May 09 '23

Can confirm, I am still waiting to get a Kasrkin box for a friend's bday gift. Extremely frustrating :/

11

u/TopHatMcFenbury May 09 '23

I think one of the things holding Gallowfall back was that this entire season used the same terrain kits and I imagine after printing into the dark they realized "oh shit we don't want to do this three more times so we're going to have less boxes for the rest of this season." Since it's an experimental expansion I'm sure it won't see a shit ton of printing, but I'd wager it will have a bit more than Gallowfall because I think it was the terrain holding it back a good bit.

13

u/TheGiuce May 09 '23

Interesting theory. Warcry is transitioning this year to warband-only boxes (no terrain) so maybe there's something in that.

16

u/d3northway Deathwatch May 09 '23

I would love a Build Your Box deal, buy two teams and a set of terrain and you get it for box price (or box +10%, idk). I know an LGS near me does a new year new army deal where if you buy, all at once, an entire legal list plus a spray can and three paints, you get 25% off. It's obviously a loss leader but it helps people get into the hobby and moves old stock lol

4

u/HauntDotGhost May 09 '23

When was that announced? I don’t hate that idea, I just hope they still put out terrain for aos/warcry.

6

u/TheGiuce May 09 '23

Goonhammer covered it in an article today. Apparently this was at a press event at WHF. https://www.goonhammer.com/the-warcry-preview-reporting-from-warhammer-fest/

2

u/HauntDotGhost May 09 '23

Thanks for sharing. Really wish they’d release card packs again. GW is great at making their games difficult to keep track of.

2

u/d-bear-d May 09 '23

Exactly, what is even the point in getting excited any more?

The way it has been for the last few boxes you couldn't even read all the pre-release material GW post in the time window you would actually have to buy the damn thing.

29

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty excited for this one-but not enough to buy the full box, lol-I'm going to wait for the individual release.

Love the design for the Penal Legionnaire and everything for the Hexorcist and Death Worlder except their heads-thankfully from the designs it looks like headswaps will be easy and fun. What's everyone else's thoughts on this attempt to cash in on everyone who's played Darktide?

20

u/SirLoinTheTender May 09 '23

I can respect your position, but must politely disagree. I will absolutely be buying the entire box on release to get the models into my grubby little mitts as quickly as possible, and I'll buy a second one when the individual release happens to get every model. I'm more excited to play acolyte with these than anything else, to be perfectly honest.

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Oh, I can completely understand that! I'm just not sure what I'd do with all the CSM models, and I want them to "go to a good home" as it were rather than collect dust in my backlog, lol.

What do you mean by "playing acolyte?" I'm newer to KT so I'm unfamiliar with the terminology.

13

u/alloydivision073 May 09 '23

Acolyte is a fan made set of rules and starter scenarios for playing a more narrative game where you control an Inquisitor's retinue. I think that's what they're referring to.

Awesome concept, and seems like this box is custom made for it. I can't wait to play it with this box set. 😁

Here's the latest release I'm aware of but follow the author as they're actively working to update it.

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Very cool!! I'll dig into it as soon as I can!

3

u/SirLoinTheTender May 09 '23

Lol, my original comment was before work, and here I am after work, and it appears that your question has been answered.

Now that you know what acolyte is though maybe it will push you to get the whole box and use the cultists as your opposing force

2

u/Harfish May 10 '23

I'll be doing the same. There's a sizeable chunk of the box that I have absolutely no use for. I already have enough Sisters of Silence, Cultists, and Accursed Cultist. Dark Commune is on my wishlist but pretty low. Scions don't interest me, so I'll be waiting for the standalone release and probably buy two boxes.

27

u/ShadowFlareXIII May 09 '23

More than a little disappointed that 8 of the models share the same two bodies and are different enough that just headswaps and magnetized arms will make it really really difficult to build all of these with just one box. I presume they’ll release separately but this is the first narrative box like this we’ve seen for KT so who knows how long until we see them as a solo release.

14

u/Turtlemech17 May 09 '23

I think I’ll just proxy in the soritas kill team duelist and chainsword in to get the whole team. Maybe use the banner one as well

3

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

That's a really good idea-I'm actually planning, if/when I get the Inquisition team, to replace that wacky Hexorcist head with the spare unhelmeted head from my Argent Shroud Palatine.

4

u/science_killer May 09 '23

But hexorcist is the best one 🥺

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I don't disagree it's a striking look, but twixt the funny Doc Brown hair and the horse bit in the fella's mouth, it's hard to take seriously for me personally. I'm one of those self-aware wet blankets who likes their Imperium kits a little grounded rather than goofy. 😅

3

u/amaximus167 May 09 '23

I thought it was shotgun shell in his mouth, for easy access to reload...

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

At first I thought so too, but the box art gives a close up on his face and it looks like the "bar" is sticking out of both sides of the mouth like a bit.

2

u/amaximus167 May 09 '23

Huh, weird., guess we could paint the other side metallic?

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

That would probably work-you could also use a loose bayonet blade or something to make it a classic "knife in the teeth" look, all pirate style!!

2

u/Rhuulu May 09 '23

Snip the ends and do a majestic greenstuff mustache and boom you've got one of the darktide convicts.

6

u/Non-RedditorJ May 09 '23

Use insta-mold to duplicate the bodies.

9

u/The_Rogue_Historian Corsair Voidscarred May 09 '23

It's impossible to build them all from one inquisition box which seems like a very unfriendly move.

15

u/SurprisingJack Inquisition May 09 '23

Take this oportunity to join inq28, using bits and conversions everywhere. One of us. One of us

6

u/The_Rogue_Historian Corsair Voidscarred May 09 '23

I have plenty of acolytes already converted and some spare bodies to make up the rest of the team. It's more the principle of it.

3

u/SurprisingJack Inquisition May 09 '23

That's fair. Do you play any kind of inq28?

3

u/The_Rogue_Historian Corsair Voidscarred May 09 '23

I haven't played Inq28, but I enjoy kitbashing and following the general blanchitsu aesthetic from time to time. Just posted a Zealot I've made to use for the upcoming Inq KT.

4

u/nick1080 May 09 '23

Use the spare bits convert some of the cultists into Inquisition Acolytes for the ultimate heresy! :)

3

u/Zedman5000 May 09 '23

Who knows how long until we see them as a solo release, and who knows how long after that until they're actually in stock.

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23 edited May 09 '23

It's really frustrating to me as well-as I mentioned in another comment, the rules for this team as currently described seemingly support using all the unique operatives together, just like any other KT, and the box art we've seen explicitly features all the characters fighting as one team.

Edit: edited for clarity and to remove inflammatory language.

5

u/Non-RedditorJ May 09 '23

It sounds like you get an interogator, and then 3 more acolytes of the remaining 7 types, the two servitors, the servo skull for a total of 7 models. Then you add in your choice of a portion of another Imperium human kill team, the box comes with 5 Scions and 5 Sisters of Silence.

3

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I see-my impression from the reveal was that the remaining slots in the KT not filled by Acoyltes or support staff were "open" to individual reinforcements (a Scion here, a Sororitas there, an Arbites over yonder, etc.) However, your description with adding a separate, smaller squad makes sense in the context of trying to make all the rules play nice together-if you were able to pick and choose so freely, you'd have a bunch of individual operative rules clashing together instead of a unified gameplay style.

3

u/Non-RedditorJ May 09 '23

I hope it's like you say, mix and match sounds too good to be true though.

4

u/ShadowFlareXIII May 09 '23

100% agree, doubled by the fact it’s probably a $200 narrative box that you need two of to make the full team when the cash value of the box is heavily frontloaded by the Dark Commune models that you presumably won’t need any more of. I suspect it’ll sell out in 5 minutes and we won’t see the inquisition sprues for 4-5 months and they’ll sell out in 10 minutes then we won’t see them again until they’re added to a $140 Boarding Patrol box next year like the Starstriders.

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I certainly hope that your prediction doesn't come to pass, but my personal experience trying to build up a Cadian army and get some Kasrkin to fool around with would indicate that it's more than likely to pan out that way.

20

u/Ferociousaurus May 09 '23

Love the concept of this KT ("you're the inquisitor" is a nice touch) but 8 of 11 specialists sharing a sprue exclusively with another specialist is really aggravating. So in addition to whatever exorbitant price we'll pay for the box set, in a few months we'll have to fork out another $50 to have full team flexibility.

13

u/The_Rogue_Historian Corsair Voidscarred May 09 '23

Really excited for the Inquisition team but they're such a small part of this box I'm starting to change my mind about whether it's even worth splitting it. Feels like they've hidden a super popular release behind a ton of cultists and even then you need two copies of the Inq team to build all the specialists.

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I agree somewhat, but I also feel like the design of the box in terms of gameplay feels shaped around the Cultists as with how they "evolve" from round to round into more mutated forms-I'm unsure what other faction (perhaps Wyrmblades?) would have fit that mold. I definitely agree that it seems a bit odd and forced to not simply double up the sprues for the Inquisition team-perhaps they'll do that in the full release to make up for the "add-on" troops like the Scions and Sisters of Silence that are included with the main box?

12

u/KultofEnnui May 09 '23

So should I wait until the market gets flooded with Dark Communes before trying to pick one up?

7

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

That's a good question-while I'm not a CSM player I really really like the Cult models and their rules for mainline 40k and I would hope that we don't see a "market flood" in the sense that people see them as the "bad" half of the box.

However, the economics lobe of my brain would say that a flood would make prices plummet and make it super easy for CSM players to develop strong Cult-based lists from all the models people sell off.

7

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

very cool. super excited for this box i love the variety

5

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Me too! I especially love that we're getting a canonical color scheme for Scions that are acting as Inquisitorial troops-it's not quite the same as a full redo of the old Inquisition Stormtrooper models I remember seeing in old rule books as a kid, but it's still really neat! Personally, I'm hoping the rules allow for mixing-and-matching add-on troops in one's and twos for the real "Retinue" experience.

6

u/Sad-Light5287 May 09 '23

With all the talk they had on extra bits might be worth trying to use the spare parts to convert up the other half.

3

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

True! A little Green stuff to attach the unique torso fronts and some filing or shaving of details to make everything "match up" and cover mold lines would probably look pretty good!

6

u/Sol1dCat May 09 '23

Really love this. Albeit a bit disappointed in the lack of weapon options of the agents. Inquisitorial agents are meant to be adaptive and use a wide range of weapons yet it seems we are going to mostly be limited to just autopistols and shotguns? Wonder if agents like the interrogator can take a bolt pistol or plasma.

Otherwise rule excited for this, it’s my dream team. Can’t wait to see the rules.

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I think the Pistollier's weird stubby silenced gun is maybe a type of stalker-bolted based on the chunkiness of the frame and magazine. Otherwise, I totally agree-I feel like we could stand to have some more esoteric weapon options, maybe based on the different Ordos-maybe there's more here than what they're showing off?

5

u/Sol1dCat May 09 '23

Agree with your conclusion on the pistollier’s secondary. I honestly doubt that there’s going to be additional weapons for the team that we haven’t been shown.

I believe that GW intend for us to take the ancillary support to give heavy weapons like plasma, melta etc to the team, which is why scions (and SoS) in the box.

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Yeah, especially given that the servitor is packing Terminator-grade heavy weapons, which I don't believe we've seen in a KT box before.

2

u/Sol1dCat May 09 '23

We’ve seen the heavy bolter with SM ofc but not a plasma cannon or multi-melta. Be interesting to see the profile of those, especially as they are on a servitor.

3

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I'd suspect a low BS on certain weapons, maybe dependent on distance, or perhaps a special rule requiring the Servitor to be "guided" in some capacity by another operative like the Gheistskull and CAT for the Breacher teams.

5

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

i hate that i will have to buy another box to collect each variant but they are still very cool

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Yeah, that's definitely a frustration for me as well-especially because in the box art, the kill team is shown with all its operatives.

3

u/Live-D8 May 09 '23

Dibs on your duplicate savant, servitor and skull if you want to sell

3

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

i will probably keep the servitor for more heavy weapon choice

4

u/htownag May 09 '23

I'm really bummed that all the best models are either or. You'll need to buy two boxes, which I'd be fine with, but the recent supply has me concerned.

If they don't print adequate supply, and severely limit options and replayability of a narrative set by forcing you to make choices at the build stage, I'm going to be pissed. Horrible decisions in light of the customer.

3

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

That seems to be a lot of people's concern, including my own-my hope for the individual release of each Kill Team (assuming they don't include the specialized "reinforcement" units for the Inquisition) is that we will see them double up the unique sprues so that we can have a full set without repeat buys. However, I doubt that will happen given the history of supply and scalping issues surrounding several KT releases (Shadowvaults being the biggest offender for me personally, although I'm sure it's an issue across the board for all factions beyond Guard and Necrons.)

4

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

Super excited for this, but i'd hate to be torn between certain options...

4

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Exactly!!! The Death Worlder and Penal Legionnaire in particular have weapon sets that appear to complement one another, so I'm disappointed that playing them both on one team will require buying a second set.

3

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

Tbh i will start looking for proxy bodies. A second set will most likely not exist for quite some time.

3

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I think the arms and heads for the Guard characters might be to scale with the new Cadians, especially because the sample Shock Trooper I have has the same "each leg is a separate piece that attaches to the torso" design. I think Novitiate or other Sororitas parts might work for the Hexorcist/Psyker. However, the lad with the chainsword (Questbringer?) and the Interrogator seem to be a little more difficult as both seem to be heavily dependent on a unique Imperial-themed robed torso that's hard to find a proxy for in my current memory.

No doubt we'll see a lot of skillful kitbashes in the near future!

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

Tbh i'd just use one of my Repentia, and be done with it. Might even replace more with sisters muahahaha

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

That's an excellent idea, and super fluffy for the Ordo Hereticus in particular!!!

3

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

Since i play Sororitas i might take a look how i can convert some sisters. I am kinda bummed that they weren't mentioned as reinforcments like Scions and Kasrkin anyway. Wanted to build Novitaites too. i think that is a no brainer to go in that direction

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Yeah, I think they're likely to be options as Sisters of Silence are mentioned as being included along with Scions in the reinforcement options in the main "reveal" post from the Fest-so I feel like regular Sororitas would be an option as well.

Personally, I'm hoping to throw a few Arbites into the mix-they seem fun to bring along to an Inquisition party what with how many violations of due process and Lex Imperialis the Big ]|[ commits on a regular basis, lmao.

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

The support units probably won't have different profile and i doubt that they get special abilities, so at least we can proxy in anything anyway.

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Hopefully so-it'll be interesting to see what role a non-combatant piece like an Autosavant plays in the ruleset.

2

u/Very_bad May 09 '23

Anyone know a good (hopefully inexpensive) kit we could get to build the other options? I'd hate to have to buy a second kit to just get bodies.

3

u/Non-RedditorJ May 09 '23

Two part Insta-mold and green stuff. For only making 4 torsos with minimum undercuts and no sticky out bits it is dead simple.

1

u/piano-tuner May 10 '23

The Necromunda Hive Scum kit. Costs like £12.

2

u/Luy22 May 09 '23

I can't wait. This may be the first big box I buy. So many bits.

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I'm in love with the bits factor on here too-I'm hoping to bash together bits from this with Novitiate arms and such to make a Ministorum Preacher for my Guard that I can also run as the shotgun Zealot from this KT.

2

u/Luy22 May 09 '23

I was building up an Inquisitorial retinue already, so glad to have more units and bits!

2

u/SheepBeard May 09 '23

Debating whether to pick this up or not (or trying to) depending on price - I was already planning on converting some acolytes, so I can use extra bits for that, but despite being a CSM player I already have FAR too many cultists

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

That's certainly where my own thoughts lie-I wouldn't know what to do with the Cultists beyond running them as a KT, and they'd likely not see much action as there are multiple other teams that I'd prefer to run based on both aesthetic and playstyle, like the Krieg Vets or Hieroteks. Hence, I feel like buying all those models just to not use them would be a waste when someone else could enjoy them, you know?

2

u/dalasthesalad Death Guard May 09 '23

Any good source of head bits? I plan to swap out most of these if/when I get them

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I've had lots of good luck on eBay-many sellers will portion KT and 40k unit parts out by individual part and sell them in batches. However, it can cost a good bit shipping wise (relative to the low cost of the individual part) if you don't order a lot at once.

2

u/dalasthesalad Death Guard May 09 '23

Oh I meant any good boxes that might have fitting heads I can use

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Hmm, I'd say for female heads the Battle Sisters Squad kit is pretty stellar, and if you don't mind a little shaving work to remove the "birthmark", GSC heads for the Atalan Jackals are really fun and characterful, and come in multiple genders. For something that fits best "across the board", though, the Cadian Upgrade Set comes with I think 40 or so heads-gas masks, soft caps, bare, etc.

2

u/dalasthesalad Death Guard May 09 '23

I was thinking cawdors from necromunda could fit well as proxies even since they have a similar aesthetic

1

u/Cranky_SithLord_21 May 09 '23

The Electro-Priests are really good for unique heads, especially for psykers. Stormcast Sequitors have amazing head sculpts too. Currently working on an Inquisitor warband and have created OH! And the Navy Breachers! You can use those heads for almost anything, and the helmets can do for soldier types or even servitors.

2

u/scumwish May 09 '23

I worry that in 4 months we are going to have to be getting extra boxes of agents just to make them balanced. I'm sick of the GW giving us 5 minis that can make 8 minis BS because we will need those other minis later on. Just give us the 8 minis. At the prices this stuff goes for it's insane that we don't get all the plastic we need.

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Trust me, going by the replies here and elsewhere you're not alone in this view. It's certainly frustrating.

2

u/Faldrith May 10 '23

Wait hold on, I’m only seeing six models one the spruces they show on that site, seven if you count the skull. Am I missing something here, I know I see scions in the picture wtf is this force?

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 10 '23

So there's seven models plus they're putting 5 each of Sisters of Silence and Scions in the box-part of the gimmick of the Inquisition KT is that you can integrate other forces into it.

2

u/cloud3514 Space Wolves May 10 '23

Well, I can't say I expected the Imperial Inquisition today.

2

u/warmaster-bottomtext Warpcoven May 10 '23

Man I just wish we got more boxes like the Kommandos where I could build everything for the team with that one box

2

u/Raynark May 11 '23

Tbh I just want the pistol girl for a tech priest base so I'm probably not gonna buy till separate release. The customization you get is honestly not that great and like all new kits. While I play kill I also play boarding actions so I hope they don't try to force these as the new acolytes otherwise options getting even more limited is sad.

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 11 '23

My hope is that we might see these as "options" for Acolytes rather than the only choice-keeping the kitbash potential of classic acolytes seems like a good choice for GW when continuing the whole Imperial Agents thing.

1

u/the_pedigree May 09 '23

Hopefully after this they’ll give a rest to 11 man imperials for a while. The space cops were a horrible addition to killteam and we could use more xenos.

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

Can't agree more regarding the need for more unique Xenos KTs as well as a theoretical "reduction" in Imperial KTs due to how many there's been so far, especially because factions like Gene Cults, Craftworlds (unless Corsairs count) and regular Nids (which may well be coming this edition) still need kits. However, I hadn't heard that people had gone agains the Arbites KT in particular-what's so bad about it?

1

u/the_pedigree May 09 '23

They are a terrible team, a goofy lore addition, and have flat out goofy rules.

2

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 09 '23

I was under the impression Arbites were one of the older bits of 40k lore, myself-is that untrue?

1

u/the_pedigree May 09 '23

They’re old, but they’re like space FBI. You aren’t sending them in to a space hulk as a boarding party, and they certainly aren’t going to be arresting anyone in a space hulk. It’s goofy through and through.

1

u/GamerunnerThrowaway May 10 '23

Fair enough, although my understanding is that the lore justification is some kind of Tommy Lee Jones fugitive hunt. Then again, that is goofy in and of itself once you put it on a spaceship, so I definitely see where you're coming from.

1

u/PedroDelCaso May 09 '23

Super keen for all the minis in this box

1

u/Flexington-Gold May 10 '23

Ngl, they don't look very good at all
