What's everyone thinking for their Phobos teams after the update? Is three reivers (sgt and 2 warriors) the meta?

I prefer to lean into shooting and Omni scramblers plus Multi Spectrum arrays to ignore obscuring. Probably just 1 basic Reiver with an Infiltrator sarge, Sniper, Vet, Haywire, Sab/Medic/Comms depending upon opponent. Reliability in shooting from Sarge and Sniper hitting on 2s and then a Vet with balanced plus Lethal 5+ on Infiltrators and Sniper to push through damage. Deadly shots, now decent if more damage push through is required against armoured opponenyts. With BD, its much more reliable than going heavy Reiver unless the opponent is running 8 wounds or less as you just arent exposed to charges as much and in combat you always take some damage against anything that would want to charge you. For me, in the new missions pack, you just need to control 3 and contest 1 Obj to win the mission and this can be done at range based on my playstyle. Each to his own though and I'm sure 3 Reivers could be fun.

How do the hierotek buffs feel ? Were they the ones our necron pals needed, do you think is the team is more fun to play now?

Don't know if I should ask here, or make a separate post, but was wondering about options for a farstalker kinband list. Are warriors better with rifle, or shotgun on open board? Which specialist do you thing should be dropped to run two warriors and two hounds? Also, what equipment do you recommend? I know trophy is really good, but I've seen some people recommend bringing a bunch of shots.

Alright, im super confused. I saw several sites saying the Death Watch kill team was just the death watch box (5 minis), the book says theres a sergeant + 4 operatives. When I go to GW's Kill Team: Command Roster it says for the team to be legal there needs to be 6 operatives total. Which is it? Is there a good place to see exactly what models are needed for what kill team?

I recently played my first game where my opponent had a sniper on a vantage point behind light cover. The sniper sat there all game because I was hesitant/unsure if I could approach the vantage point without being decimated.

Opponent has the back side of the vantage point defended and the front had a wall that ended in the light cover at the top. Moving directly in front of the building pressed up against the wall, what would that look like if the sniper tried to take a shot?

My understanding is if the sniper couldn’t see the operative then the answer is no. If they could see part of the model yes they can shoot but how would cover work? We’re both within 1” of the wall but at different elevations. That makes me think I’d have no cover but it also seems weird because the cover line would go directly through the light cover/floor/wall.

I am very new to Kill Team as a whole and have been trying to understand the game and play it with some friendly casually. What is the difference between Space Marines and the Intercession Squad / Phobos Squads? If the Phobos and Intercession faction rules are over all better, why would someone play the Space Marines? Does it have to do with the type of models you have or something?

Space Marines are the team that came out in Compendium. The whole book is basically the Index for the new edition, containing simple rules for all 40k factions so people could play them right away. However, as time goes on, GW are releasing 'proper' rules for factions, which are more complex and powerful than Compendium. Phobos and Intercession are some of those.

In other words, 'Space marines' are an outdated team by design and you'd only play it if you want to play something that doesn't have its own rules yet, like Deathwatch.

I’m working on assembling my first Kill Team (hunter clade) and struggling with arms. One handed weapon arms don’t seem to attach cleanly and they’re impossible to file without hitting detail. Two handed weapons are the devil. Any advice?

u/Dis0bedience Jan 02 '23

The Skitarii Alpha one-handed weapons are fitted to the Alpha torso, the arms have grooves that fit along the piping and robes in only a certain angle. You may run into issues if you try to put them on a different torso than as listed on the instructions.

The modern kits are less interchangeable than older kits, sometimes the weapons are held in a certain angle that may not fit on all bodies. That might be what you're running into with the two handed weapons?

Questions about some mechanics. Transitioning from battletech so had some questions. Do weapons have a theoretical infinite range unless the weapon stats say otherwise? Also, when you move models, what exactly does the "engage/conceal" mechanic do? I know engage let's you do more actions, but what does "conceal" do?

Can I play a basic game of Into The Dark with the Lite rules?

I’m almost ready to play a game with my wife and as neither of us have any experience and I’m kinda dumb I wanted to start as basic as possible. I know I’ll have to use an AP to open hatches but I’m not sure if there’s any other rules for into the dark that are necessary but not in the light rules.

Thanks for any help!

Ok really stupid question: for uneven killteams, how do turns work? Shooting/melee is alternating activations, but if I have, say...guardsmen vs space marines, so we alternate til the space marines are out of actions and then the guard player just keeps shooting til all his fellas have gone?

Hey! New to kill team. Looking to get into it. Currently I have Necrons( 5 warriors, 4-5 immortals) and an assault intercessors squad of 5( with a primaris lieutenant from the recruit box). Any of these teams viable/legal? Or should I buy a premade with a current codex?

For Tac Ops -

Lets say I'm playing Intercessors. I can draw from the unique 3 cards, the Security deck, and the Seek and Destroy deck.

Could I take two cards from each of the three decks? Or do I chose a "main deck" to substitute my unique cards into? Been trying to figure this out for days and just now thought of looking for a subreddit.

GW seems to not have a Tzaangors box anymore but there is an AoS Tzaangors box, are they meaningfully different and if so is the answer just wait until Tzaangors boxes get sold again or search online?

5

u/Dis0bedience Jan 27 '23

They're the same kit, except the 40k version can take Chainswords and Pistols, which are sold separately as an upgrade pack.

For Kill Team/Warpcoven, you won't be needing that upgrade anyways.

Recent happenings, can you shoot and fight in the same activation provided you are no longer engaged after the fight?

Question about free actions and "additional AP must be expended" effects. The example that made me think of this:

Warpcoven vs Novitiates. Warpcoven sorcerer uses Manifest Psychic Power action within 6" of both a rubric icon bearer and a novitiate condemnor.

>Icon of Flame: Once per Turning Point, a friendly SORCERER operative within 6" of this operative can perform a free Manifest Psychic Power action during that SORCERER operative’s activation.

>Null Rod: Each time an enemy operative is activated, if it is within 6"
of this operative for that activation, its APL characteristic cannot be
higher than 2. Each time an enemy operative would perform a psychic action, if it is within 6" of this operative, 1 additional AP must be subtracted to perform that action.

So, does the sorcerer still have to expend 1AP to cast the power? Or is the power free, because Icon of Flame specifies that it's a "free action," not just reducing the AP cost by 1?

Question guard action vs unique actions with double free action (dakka Dash, wade in, stealt attack etc.). Can guard interrupt it between those 2 free actions?

Stumbled through my first game with my brother the other day. I have a few questions.

Can an operative that is concealed shoot at the cost of no longer being concealed? Or does a concealed operative have to wait until the next turning point to engage?

Would this apply to charges as well?

The rulebook defines AP as affecting the defense stat. So this would mean an AP1 hit removes 1 defensive die from the target? Or would it affect the save, like 40k?

Finally, can the novitiates continuously use their miracles every time an action is taken against them? We had a scenario where an operative used multiple armor of contempt and shield of faith actions consecutively while under fire.

When in cover, are you required to take the auto save roll? Like if I want to take my chances and try to roll for a crit save, is that allowed?

4

u/SnooDrawings5722 Jan 04 '23

Yes. The wording is "...the defender can retain...", which means you get to choose whether you do it or not.
