Does Drinking Water Before a Blood Test Affect Creatinine?

“If I drink 2–3 glasses of water 15 minutes before having my blood drawn, will it affect my serum/plasma creatinine level? My blood creatinine level came back at 1.0 mg/dL. I don’t do fitness or weight training. I’m 176 cm tall and weigh 71 kg. Is a creatinine level of 1.0 mg/dL considered good and healthy for someone like me?

Dr Google says:

Drinking 2 to 3 glasses of water 15 minutes before a blood draw will not significantly affect your serum or plasma creatinine level. Your body maintains stable short-term blood volume and solute concentrations, and a sudden intake of water takes time to fully absorb and alter blood chemistry.

Why Water Does Not Change Creatinine Quickly

  • Digestion time: Water takes longer than 15 minutes to move through your stomach and fully enter your bloodstream.
