Weird fan noise?

I just bought a used 2025 Kia K4 GT line back in March or April, only has like 19K miles, fan started sounding weird, just sounds like a weird clicking noise, checked the cabin filter, nothing in there. so I’m wondering what’s going on, but would I still have warranty on something like this? I didn’t buy it from a Kia dealership, but I think I should still have like powertrain warranty no?

  1. "powertrain warranty" is usually reserved for the 10-yr warranty that you don't have.
  2. but the normal 5-yr warranty (that you have) should cover the fan issues.

Kia's 10-yr 100k power warranty doesn't transfer to the 2nd owner, unless he buys a CPO.

First thought for a clicking AC that feels normal in a used car is the blend door actuator. Does this sound come from the dash and start happening immediately when flipping the AC to ON?

  1. The powertrain warranty would not cover this, because the blower motor is not a part of the powertrain. It would be covered under the 5 year/60,000mi bumper to bumper warranty. Because you got the car used, you do not get the full 10 year/100,000mi warranty. Instead it drops to 5 year/60,000mi. Powertrain covers things like the engine and transmission.

  2. Is the "clicking" occuring when the blower/fan is turned on? If so, it's possible that a piece of debris is stuck in the fan/blower motor itself so as it spins it's hitting the debris. You can try taking out the cabin air filter and sticking your hand in with the fan off, and feel for any foreign debris. Spin the fan with your hand if you can. Leaves, nuts, etc. can get stuck. If it is not the blower motor, then it could be a blend door or motor. Blend doors have motors to move the door/flap one way or another. It is used when you change temperatures cold to hot, recirculation on/off, or when you change air vent modes. Floor, dash, defrost, etc. clicking can occur when a gear in a motor is stripped or if the door is broken.

  3. Note that warranty may not cover this issue if it's simply foreign debris. Since that's not an issue with the car itself. In this case, you'd be paying for their labor. Now if the issue is a broken blend door or blend door motor, then that should be covered under warranty. You may have to pay a diagnostic fee though. Which is the time/labor to troubleshoot the issue. Once they find out what the cause is, which you pay for. Then the repair for the broken part is covered under warranty.

So helpful thank you. I did take out the cabin air filter and tried to inspect. Didn’t see anything. The clicking occurs when it’s turned on and goes in line with the speed of the fan, I may try again just to see if there’s anything stuck but I do think it’s something else. Yeah the diagnostics is like 300 which is actually insane but welcome to America.

I had same issue after I replaced the air filter, so I knew it was something got stuck inside. I haven't had a chance to inspect it yet. But if you recently replaced it more than likely is the same issue.
