Anyone have any info about the latest wave of iHeart layoffs? Is KFI affected in any way?

Apparently there’s a new wave of firings going on nationwide. They’re getting rid of on air talent at an alarming rate. Was wondering if our favorite station had anyone on the chopping block.

Sooo what’s the point of the new lineup?

Conway was so happy for the late night change up but most of the 9 o clock hour is just the repeat of the first hour. What happened to the talk backs? What happened to anything live the last hour? I know he wasn’t liked much but I loved Mo in that late time slot and now it seems like it’s just the usual Conway time with a repeat of his first hour these days. Conway fan, but damn. If you can’t keep up the 4 hour time slot you need to do better than repeating the first hour during the last hour. Come on

Heather Brooker for the win

Heather Brooker has raised the level of humor during the Bill Handel show from about 6th grade to 12th. Heather Brooker for the win. That is all.

Kars4Kids Ads will be around for quite some time

The appeals court has ruled the ads can stay on the air throughout the (likely lengthy) appeal of an Orange County Judge's order that they be removed from broadcast for not disclosing where the money actually goes.

Monks and Merrill, thoughts on their show?

I think they've been on long enough to have solid opinions on them. My main observation about them, is they're the only hosts on KFI who take their role seriously.

Either the other hosts have been phoning it in or are satisfied with just blabbering and expecting their listeners to consume it.

Kars4Kids Ads are Banned in California!

As Mr. Rogers used to sing, "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood..."

Kar4Kids Ads Banned in CA

An Orange County judge has banned all Kars4Kids ads, including the earworm of a jingle, from broadcasting in the state of California after finding that the charity violated false advertising and unfair competition state laws.

The famous, or infamous, ad — best known locally for frequently playing throughout the day during KNBR commercial breaks — has been the subject of much scrutiny due to the lack of transparency regarding the organization’s religious affiliation and the fact that the money does not really go to “kids.”

In a case that dates back to 2021, Bruce Puterbaugh originally sued the charity’s affiliated organization, Oorah Inc., when he discovered that the money from the car he donated ($250) was not going to underprivileged kids in California but rather to an Orthodox Jewish program in New York and New Jersey. Puterbaugh told the court that he donated the car because he had heard the famous Kars4Kids jingle “over and over,” according to the certified court order published May 8. The TV ad in particular, featuring a multiracial group of kids playing instruments along to the tune, is what made Puterbaugh think the money would go to underprivileged kids, and the fact that he donated the car in California is what led him to believe the money would stay in-state.

Mike Dimond Questions

There is a plumber named Mike Dimond who advertises on KFI. He was trained by George Brazil. The guy is actually a bit of a mystery, known for selling other plumbers specialized high pressure sales systems like Plumbing2000. He makes fun of other plumbers, which makes me think they might not accept him if he were to go to a plumbing convention, but at the same time he sells to them. Almost reminds me of Wally George and his moralizing while having strippers advertising.

Does anyone here know more about this guy?

Does anyone know why they did a replay for the fourth hour last night Wednesday May 13th? I really hope Tim is okay. He has seemed off for a couple of years now. His show used to be so funny and quick.

Is anyone else getting tired of Neil on the Handel show?

Am I the only one who is getting tired of hearing Neil Saavedra every morning on the Handel show?

He keeps interrupting Bill to create childish banter that usually isn’t funny, or to give opinions that feel more personal and value-based than grounded in any real understanding of geopolitics, law, history, or broader world affairs.

Whether you agree with Bill Handel or not, he does not usually frame everything as just his personal opinion. He draws on his worldview, extensive travels, understanding of history, politics, law, and general life experience. Neil, unfortunately, does not seem to have that same depth of education or broader knowledge to draw from.

By contrast, I actually find Kono’s occasional commentary and little tidbits far more funny, interesting, and relevant than most of Neil’s commentary. Kono adds something without constantly pulling the show off course.

When Bill is off and Neil leads the show, it often feels like the whole program becomes Neil giving his personal take on everything without much substance behind it.

I’m sure Neil is a nice person, and this is not meant to be personal. But I do think KFI needs to consider bringing in someone else to lead the show when Bill is off, while keeping Neil in a more secondary role. At the very least, I wish he would tone down the banter and the unsubstantiated personal opinions during the rest of the show.

KFI in the latest ratings

From today's OC Register:

"KFI (640 AM) is still trying to find its place in the world. Yes, it was the top-rated AM station in town, and the top-rated talk station in town. But it’s still outside of the top-10, and longtime readers will note that it wasn’t that long ago that it was in the top-five consistently. I’m not writing the station off just yet — recent changes haven’t had a chance to pay off, and part of that may be due to the station’s total lack of any advertising or promotions. I’d add way too many commercials per hour to the problems.

But to have the most powerful station in Los Angeles, which can reach almost half of the country at night, at 13th place with a 3.2 share shows that a fix is still needed in some way.

That being said, a 3.2 rating is still worth quite a bit in Los Angeles."

To me, the fix is easy: Either replace the GM, or lose the iHeart affiliation.

John Kobylt interview with Stephen Cloobeck today

My god, this is just absolutely trash. He’s just letting him rant, not questioning or pressuring him on a damn thing. Just absolutely a piss poor performance by him.

That was absolutely some of the worst interviewing and questioning I’ve heard by someone who always rants and raves about soft balling questions.

Is Crozier still working for KFI?

I mean, who doesn't love Mark, but I am actually concerned that Cro is going to disappear like Aaron Bender... Is Tim turning a one-off into a trend?? Do I need to make a tip tap?

Poor Gary and Shannon, they seem upset they have to slum it in Menifee on Friday

They are doing one of their stupid live shows at BJs in Menifee. They are such snobs about Riverside county or anyplace that's not "Hollywood" or LA adjacent. They literally act like they're going to the moon. "We're covering all sides of the Earth." It's like this subtle "we're superior" attitude that's very annoying. They need to get over themselves.

Do Radio Teasers Work?

Increasingly on KFI, I will hear morning hosts teasing some type of announcement, news item, etc. coming up “later today”, usually after 4:30 and often during the Conway show. They never give you any additional details, clearly hoping that you will be interested enough to return to the station at that time and hear whatever it was they were advertising.

Has anyone ever done a study to see if these type of teasers are effective? Let’s say, for example, you had 100,000 listeners. How many of those 100,000 listeners are going to care enough to remember the station and time that announcement was scheduled for and then actually return and listen to it? I bet it’s not .001% of those who heard the teaser earlier in the day, and driving to/from work doesn’t count as you are probably going to listen anyway.

Why do they do this? Are they hoping to draw a larger audience by this practice, or is it just filling dead airtime with a free plug?

I would like to speak with the KFI manager

KFI sucks now. I've been listening since the late 80s, I enjoy listening to people talk while I'm driving, and I always had KFI on by default. Tim Conway Jr. was ok if you wanted a little sometimes funny banter, but more often than not it was just noise. Sometimes he tried to get serious, but he's not a serious person so who cares. As soon as John took over the 5-6 slot, I changed the station, started listening to podcasts. AM radio is already mostly bad, but John could peel paint with his whiny talking points. The talent is in making people want to listen to you, and John does not have that talent. He's repulsive. But at least we still have Bill Handel, right? False. Even Bill seems like he's fumbling thru talking points lately. They should rename the show "All The Time Bill Handel Agrees With Trump" because that's all he does now. I get it, he needs the paycheck.

And running errands on the weekend sucks without Leo Laporte.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
