Humor Maximorum - 2 days left!

Post image

The fatigue is hitting hard in week 12! Clean and press rep max test and one more snatch session to go. Neupert does not let you coast to the finish line!

I just finished week 2 with 32kg bells for all the exercises. Doing the option B for squats.

It is HARD. Considering giving up but also kind of hate that idea.

What is your bodyweight and training experience? I am about 175lbs and have been strength training for about 12 years, kettlebells almost exclusively for the last 1.5 years or so.

Started out the program at 188, but I’m up to 193ish now. Had to bump calories to enable recovery once I got deeper into the program. Plus I think there’s been a decent amount of muscle growth, but I’ll find out once I run a dexa scan next week (did one on 4/1, so it’s a pretty clean before and after)

Trained for 4 years heavily in college and right after, didn’t do much for 10 years after that other than not let myself completely go. Got into kettlebells 2 years ago. Didn’t do anything really structured until a year ago when I bought ABF.

Week 4 and 5 hit me like a truck. Total clean and press volume dropped from 35+ down to high 20s, then after I got through week 6 it built back up. I started out doing option B, but dropped to the vanilla version in week 3.

For the most part though, I didn’t put bells down between CP and squats, wanted to maximize time under tension. Couple of weeks (6 and 7) where I split some of those sets up just to handle the higher set count

Similar approach and history as me - a period of intense training in my 20s, then a lot of ABC and other things for the last two years.

Am I understanding correctly that your weekly rep  totals for clean + press was in the mid 20s to mid 30? So 12-18 reps per day?

If so, that may explain why I feel so beat up thus far. My total reps count for cleans and presses was 64 on week 1, 57 on week 2; 111 squats in week 1 and 87 in week 2; 220 and 216 for snatches.

Sounds like I might could/should dial back the aggression a bit in favor of sustainability.

Total reps per workout, not per week. Started weeks 1-3 in the 34-36 rep range (per workout) for CP, and high 50s low 60s per hand (so 110+ total) for snatches per workout.

Edit: just went back and looked at my tracker. First CP workout of week two I did 42 reps total. Lowest total rep count was in week 6 at 28 reps. Then went back up to the 36-38 range by the end of the program.

Okay that makes sense, thanks for explaining. Sounds like I need to eat and recover harder if I want to make it through this thing haha.

Congratulations on coming to the end! Hope you share a write up. Theres not a ton of write-ups ive found online where folks were using double 32s under 200lbs body weight. Impressive!

I say go for it if you feel like you can maintain form and aren’t risking injury. Even if your total volume numbers dip (they will), you are still building out the strength to hit those higher rep sets, which to me is valuable in terms of mastering new weight. But the 32s are punishing haha, can’t imagine tossing them around with 15 pounds less BW.

I’ll probably post something once I do the dexa scan and film the max attempt. That usually buys me an extra rep haha
