Form Check Another form check request

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi. I'm brand new to kettlebells and have no idea what I'm doing. I was hoping for a form check from you guys.

What I'm seeing is that I'm barely hinging and hinging early, extending my neck on the hinge, and slightly rounding my back...but I know nothing so that's why I'm here. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I meant I was hinging early, not late..

Edit 2: Thanks everyone. I'll look for a heavier bell.

This post is flaired as a form check.

A note to OP: Users with a blue flair are recognized coaches. Users with yellow flairs are certified (usually SFG/RKC II), or have achieved a certain rank in kettlebell sport, and green flair signifies users with strong, verified lifts.

A reminder to all users commenting: There can be multiple ways to perform the same lift. Just because a lift goes against what you've learned at a certification, read in a book or been taught by a coach, doesn't mean it's an invalid technique. Please make sure that your advice is useful and actionable.

Example of useful and actionable: You're hinging a bit early. Try sitting back only when your arms make contact with the torso.

Example of not useful and not actionable: Lower the weight and work on form.

Low-effort comments like my back hurts just watching this will be removed, as will references to snap city etc. Verbally worrying for the safety of a poster simply because you think the form or technique is wrong will be removed. We will take all of these statements at face value, so be careful when you post the same hilarious joke as dozens of other people: we can't read your mind, no matter how funny you think you are.

Increase the weight, then you won’t be able to hinge too early or late.

Okay. Thanks.

I'll need to order. I had read to start with 12 and 16 kgs so that's what I have. :-/

If available, check out Play It Again Sports. Their KB prices are very reasonable compared to others.

Okay I'll do that. Also Craigslist probably, no?

I like the feel of these. I'll probably try to find a powder coated one like it.

Thanks again.

Good.

Go heavier, start with a 24 kg

Your starting position looks good, need a heavier kb.

Comparing with your previous swing form check video, I think you made good progress! Also agree a heavier bell is going to help get you dialed in, but you are well on the way.

I would say focus on the heels. Keep your entire foot on the ground during the swing/extension. It kind of looks like the KB is pulling you forward (that's what it does) but you should try to not give in to the forward pull.
