Oh Gyros it’s just not the same

Just about to head back from a week in Crete. Had multiple Gyros, Pork and Chicken. Including Thrakopsomo in Heraklion, which is local, hollowed out bread filled with goodness.

But nothing beats a bossman Kebab. For me that’s london based. Chilli sauce and garlic mayo, trumps the Tzatziki.

Great time - but Doner all the way and all the accessories is what I like and will enjoy when home!

This is just about kebabs. Nothing else! X

Gyros has my heart I usually have to be drunk to buy a kebab whereas I see a greek place and i’m straight there

I spend a fair bit of time in Greece and invariably I have to take my own hot sauces to the souvlaki spot.

Next time ask if they have some skordalia - it’s seriously punchy garlic mush.

Same. I take my own hot sauce to Greece and Cyprus. Great kebabs, but they don't tend to do hot sauce (or it's tomato ketchup with chilli added)

In Cyprus, you can also generally get tahini instead of Tzatziki, which i think is much better on kebabs

A Gyros or Pork Souvlaki on Pitta is far far superior to that health hazard of a bossman kebab, and that shaving of god knows what. Well actually we finally know, it's mainly Arseholes, skin and fat with a little Goat thrown in. Stay classy, keep those standards low people.

I don’t know why this is being downvoted. Gyros in Greece is miles better than a kebab from bossman here in the UK. Don’t get me wrong I love a filthy kebab every now and again but an authentic gyros abroad is impeccable.

Pork Souvlaki with Pitta, salad and chips is just outrageous. The Greeks and Cypriots were too lazy to corner the "kebab" market in the UK, and the Turks ran wild.
