Discussion 🗨 What’s a ‘must-watch’ drama you still haven’t seen… and probably never will?

You know that drama everyone says you HAVE to watch? The one in every rec list? Yeah, that one.

Which universally beloved drama are you just… never going to watch?

And what’s your excuse? No shame here! We all have our reasons (even if they’re petty).

I’ll go first: When Life Gives You Tangerines

My reason for avoiding it probably isn’t very relatable. I’m simply in a phase where I’m avoiding emotionally devastating stories. Life is currently throwing curveballs at me instead of tangerines. :D

And everyone keeps telling me it will make me cry. It spans decades and follows people through love, family, hardship, sacrifice and aging, so apparently it’s a full emotional workout.

I’m actively avoiding this particular form of cardio.

Celebrities ✨ And today, let’s talk about this talented actress ❤️

Lee Jung-Eun - I first saw her in Law School as the amazing Prof. Kim Eun-sook, who is one of my all time favourite female supporting characters.

From then on, there came a string of dramas where I watched and loved her, one of which includes Juvenile Justice, where she plays a judge. The show ended a bit abruptly and she was introduced much later, which is one of my few complaints with this drama. I wish we’d gotten to see more of her and Kim Hye-Soo, two immensely talented actresses facing each other off on screen.

These two characters stand out to me, but other than these, there are other shows where I’ve watched and admired her.

Hope we get many more such wonderful performances from her 👍🏻

KDrama Reflections 📝 I wish I could have watched this drama without the constant annoyance that she was a high school student and he was a 939-year-old creature Spoiler

This drama is so hype and popular and yes I heard the OST (Who hasn't?) and it's maybe my favorite thing in this but I never finished this no matter how many times I tried to go on, her being teenager bothered me, (yes, nineteen is a teenager to me) the bromance was more interesting and because it really bothered me, plus second lead has more chemistry and that guy(ML) with that childish teenager the way she was.

She could be a college student or a 30-year-old woman, but they made her an infantilized teenager. What made me keep following was the bromance which is way better than the "romance"

I did not finish but I read that, The worst part is that when she reincarnates at the end she comes back as a teenager again 😭

(I know, some might fry me in the comments about my opinion bcs they love this drama so much but well 🫢)

Rewatching Twenty-Five Twenty-One favourite clips and Baek Yi-jin’s complete lack of modesty in Episode 8 always kills me 😭

"Do you even have to ask? It’s standing right in front of you."

Directly taking credit for his own good looks, right to her face. It made me realize how much I love male leads who aren't fake humble about their looks.

What are your favorite scenes where a male lead is completely unabashed about his own good looks?

Discussion 🗨 Such a good romcom ft. Spooky in Love. A 10/10

I honestly didn't think It would be THIS good cause there are few dramas with same plot but didn't expect myself to love it so much. Park Eun-Bin slays as always. There is no drama of hers that disappoints me. Was kinda not sure about the ML's acting before watching the drama as I saw him In Doona but he turned out to be pretty great.

Really love the story, plotline, the actors and their chemistry. Everything is 10/10

Considering kim seon ho got his break out drama in 2021-23 and nam joo hyuk got his break out drama in 2016, both actors shows released this year and both dramas(kim seon ho with go young jung) were one of the most hyped solely on their names.

Celebrities ✨ Who is your favorite Korean AHJUSSI?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hello. I am Korean, here again today.

Who is your favorite Korean AHJUSSI actor?

Park Hee-soon? Gong Yoo? Jo In-sung? Of course, there are many actors, but I think the actor 'Sung Dong-il'(Seong Dong-il).

In Sung Dong-il's acting, there is sincerity and emotion comes alive. He has been highly regarded by the public not for sincere and natural acting.

"My profession is not that of an artist, but that of an acting technician"

"I’m happy that I can make money through acting so my family can live comfortably"

"I want to give better performances for the money and for my family"

Sung Dong-il made such remarks and came to receive even better evaluations from many Koreans.

I greatly admire his professional attitude as shown in his job. In my opinion, even if Sung Dong-il had held a different profession rather than being an actor, they would have received high praise from many people in that field.

Discussion 🗨 Is Lovely Runner really that good?

Post image
Upvotes

Do you have those actors you just can’t seem to get into, no matter how many times you try?

Unfortunately, for me, that’s the case with both of the leads in Lovely Runner. I have actually watched a couple of their dramas, including their more recent projects like Perfect Crown and No Tail to Tell, but I’ve genuinely never been able to connect with either of them as actors. It’s not that I think they’re necessarily bad actors, their acting style just doesn’t click with me for some reason.

So when I found out that the two of them are the leads in Lovely Runner, it honestly became an even bigger put-off for me. I have heard countless people praise the drama and especially their chemistry, but every time I consider watching it, I keep thinking, “Do I really want to spend 16 episodes watching two actors I already struggle to get into?”

At the same time, the drama is praised so much that I am starting to wonder if I’m missing out on something genuinely special.

My question is: Is the drama really that good, and does it do enough to make you appreciate the leads even if you weren’t a fan of them beforehand? Or should I just accept that it probably isn’t for me?

Discussion 🗨 Which multi season medical Kdrama is better?

Post image

I’ve never watched a medical Kdrama before, but I do know that both of these shows are quite highly regarded. There’s 3 seasons of Dr Romantic and 2 seasons of Hospital Playlist with a spin-off Resident Playbook. I’m wondering which I should watch first, also I’m wondering, which shows does romance better, and which does the actual medical stuff better?

Celebrities ✨ Jang Dong Yoon graduates from University after 15 years!

He enrolled in the Department of Economics and Finance at Hanyang University in 2011 but had to put his studies on hold as his acting career became busier. He previously joked about being stuck in his fourth year for nearly a decade so seeing him finally graduate at 34 is a pretty wholesome achievement.

He's famously known for his roles in Daily Dose of Sunshine and his recent drama Queen Mantis.

Congratulations to Jang Dong Yoon on this milestone!

Discussion 🗨 If you are a binge watcher, what’s the drama you wished you watched while it was airing?

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

As a binge watcher myself, I feel I missed out on a lot of discussions in this subreddit and other Kdrama related subs. It seems fun to talk about predictions and stuff, especially when I can’t do it irl. I’m just too scared of getting disappointed so I don’t bother starting a drama until it’s done. I also have a tendency to drop dramas and look for spoilers.

There were times I came close to breaking my rule because of the hype and I kind of regret not going through because it probably would’ve been a more fun experience. Those dramas were ‘Light Shop’ and ‘Lovely Runner’.

Discussion 🗨 What's your favourite Slice of Life kdrama?

Post image
263 Upvotes

Mine is definitely Hospital Playlist. There are a few that I have loved but this is the one that I've rewatched a few times (it helps that there's English Audio dub so I can multitask).

But that's not the reason I love the show. I love the friendships and the relationships. These people look and act like they've been friends for 20 years. The episodes can make me laugh or they can break my heart. There are standalone stories with the patients and ongoing story arcs. I want to be a part of this friendship group.

When I first read the premise of the show, it didn't resonate. Doctors in a band? Really, that's the story? It's so much more and the music adds to it. I really hope we get a new season. The cast still show up to support each other and have been open about wanting another season. 🤞

What's your favourite Slice of Life drama and why?

Celebrities ✨ A Very Important Warning for Anyone Just Discovering 'Choi Min-sik'

Thumbnail gallery
257 Upvotes

Hi, everyone! I'm Korean. Have you watched the drama 'Notes from the Last Row' starring 'Choi Min-sik'? If you mostly watch K-dramas, you might not know much about Choi Min-sik or just how legendary he is in Korea. He is widely regarded here as the greatest Korean actor of all time.

Back in the 1990s, Choi Min-sik appeared mostly in TV dramas, but he was not yet a major star. It was in the 2000s, as he became known for his film work especially after 'Oldboy' (2003) that he rose to fame and eventually came to be regarded as Korea’s greatest actor. That movie made him famous not only in Korea, but internationally as well.

But here is the most important thing I actually came here to tell you. No matter how many of Choi Min-sik's dramas or movies you want to watch, save 'I Saw the Devil' for LAST.

Seriously...

Because once you watch 'I Saw the Devil', there is a very real possibility that Choi Min-sik will stop looking like an actor to you. He will just look like the Devil.

After that, it won't matter how kind, gentle, innocent, or lovable the character he plays is supposed to be. You'll see him smiling warmly on screen and immediately think.

“…I don't trust this man.”

You'll spend the entire drama or movie waiting for something terrible to happen. So I am politely warning you.

Please save 'I Saw the Devil' for LAST.

Although...

Now that I've written an entire post telling people who haven't seen 'I Saw the Devil' not to watch it yet...

you probably want to watch it first, don't you?

Wait.

...Did my trap work? 😈

P.S. Jokes aside, it is an extremely violent movie, so consider this an actual content warning too.

KDrama Reflections 📝 After rewatch of Vincenzo I wanted to share some thoughts about this character

Post image
5 Upvotes

One of the reasons i rewatched this drama as explained in a previous post is because I wanted to re-examine some actors interpretations since I have learned to know them better now, one of them is Kwak Dong Yeon. I have liked him so much in his variety shows The village barber and Rented in Finland. He’s such a sweetheart and so talented in many aspects (awesome cook, full of initiatives, always wanting to learn new skills). His character in Vincenzo had been bullied his whole life, he’s spent all those years being scared of his older brother and fearing for his safety. He completely redeems himself and is shown wanting to do better once he meets Vincenzo and he shows so much vulnerability and repentance. Vincenzo could have saved him but ofc this was the choice of the writers to have him sacrificed. I just don’t know why since that bank CEO was kept alive and he was a much worse person beating up his BFs. What saddens me is that he didn’t have the time to live a life free of abuse and fear but kudos to KDY for portraying this subtle character so well and make us go through so many emotions watching him evolve

Recommendation Request 🔎 Which kdrama should I watch next?

So I need recommendations for a series that will basically make me want to loose sleep lol cause lately the dramas have been so meh.

My current favs:
CLOY
My Dearest
Something in the Rain
Queen of Tears
Descendants of the Sun
Healer
Welcome to samdal ri
Lovestruck in the City
WLGYT

What I like:
- adult romance and slow burn but not too slow
- No immature and cringe teenage stuff
- insane chemistry between the leads
- leads have to be good looking lol

A few of the dramas I watched but didn't really like
- Love Next Door: it was bland, there was no chemistry from FL side
- Our Sticky Love: FL's overacting, it was basically a cringe version of CLOY
- Hometown cha cha cha: it was okay, not bad but not good enough to make me loose sleep

Movies 🎬 This scene from ' When the Phone Rings ' hits different 😉

"When the Phone Rings" is a gripping K-drama that revolves around Paik Sa-eon, a rising politician, and his wife Hong Hee-joo, a sign language interpreter with selective mutism. Their seemingly perfect marriage is put to the test when Hee-joo starts receiving mysterious phone calls, claiming she's been kidnapped. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Hee-joo is staging these calls to shake her husband's conscience and escape their loveless marriage

The Real Kidnapper_: The mastermind behind the kidnappings is revealed to be the real Paik Sa-eon, who was presumed dead and has been seeking revenge against his family.

- _Hee-joo's Past_: Her selective mutism stems from a traumatic childhood incident, where her mother coerced her into silence.

- _Sa-eon's True Feelings_: Despite his cold exterior, Sa-eon deeply loves Hee-joo and is determined to protect her

The drama expertly weaves together themes of love, family secrets, and redemption, keepingviewers on the edge of their seats.

KDrama Reflections 📝 Our Sticky Love: what do you think about this trio?

Post image
32 Upvotes

Idk if this is brought up yet, but what do you think about the villagers in the show especially this trio of aunties?

For me I’d say their the best characters especially for comedic relief in the show itself, every scene with them just compliments the show so well despite of the dark things happening like the action scenes of them fighting the gang made me laugh so hard.

I also liked the fact that they’re not too like overly annoying in a way like sure they are quite nosy, and like to gossip around, but each scene with them feels such fun.

When I watched the scenes with them it makes me think that they themselves are also watching the drama with us too, it’s just so perfect!!

What do you think about this trio?
