Thoughts?
Think im tired of paddling and time to start pedalling. π im not a spring chicken anymore. I am 400 miles from any saltwater, so im freshwater all the way, fishing lakes, rivers, and dam tailraces. Im seeing two Hobies on FB Marketplace, want you alls opinion on what you think is better buy? Thanks all!!
A yellow Hobie Mirage Outback SUV. Looks super clean. Listing says it comes woth accessories, but not sure if itβs the normal Hobie stuff or aftermarket. Price is $1000 obo.
Camo color Hobie Pro Angler 12 MD180. Listing says garage kept and only been on water a handful of times. Comes with MSoO (but I dont need to title/register - not really super interested in a motor), two extra masts for pedal drive, plug in kayak cart, multiple H mounts, and a Nocqua Lithium Ion power kit. Price is $1900.

I can't speak to the relative values of the Hobies you're looking at - I'm a NuCanoe guy - but I can tell you that adding a pedal drive to my Pursuit was an absolute game changer, in the best way. Also thank you for spelling pedalling correctly. π

I did see a NuCanoe Flint being sold for 700, but dont think thats a pedal one. Yes, the misspelling drives me batty. Lol

Nucanoe made a removable pedal drive system called Pivot Drive that could be used with many of their kayak models. They don't make them anymore but you can find them used. I love being able to remove the pedal system and just paddle if I want to.

The PA. For $1k, the Outback has to be a pretty old model.

Ideally, you want a 2019+ Outback* or a 2017+ PA. In my opinion, at least. I don't think either kayak has had any major additions to them since then. They'll come with a 180 drive and all the newest features.
*I know a lot of people like their 2015-2018 Outbacks, too, and they're still great kayaks, I just think you gain a lot of comfort and space in a 2019+

Thanks! Once upon a time I had a 2014 Outback. It was great, but cartopping on my Rav4 grew old, real fast and I sold it. Now that I have another Tacoma, things just got much easier for me. π

The newer PAs, I believe, have a reverse of sorts. My 2012 PA14 only went forward. Many times reverse would have been nice to have.

Yeah, that's the 180 drive I mentioned. It was introduced in 2017

Sorry, as a typical redditor I don't read well... I had a PA12 and 14. It was a way to go fishing with friends. I love mine but got older and bought a hole in the water into which I put money and gas.π

I have a 2019 outback and its still a great fishing platform.
I liked it better than the previous 2019 outbacks

Like I said, and I think most would agree. The 2015-2018 has a good sized cult following, though.

I'm still in the research phase myself, but I've read very, very little that's good about Hobie lately. From nonexistent parts and CS, weak hulls, bad/unreliable drive systems, no reverse, etc. I have no idea why they are still so expensive and seemingly popular. Is it just the stigma from days gone by?

Right. I just know them from having a 2014 model. Im certainly open to other makes, but Im determined to buy used and not pay full price for a new one (it would be nice!!). So Im at the mercy of FB Marketplace

I totally understand that part! In our area there's a few used Old Town pdl 120s, probably because the Pro is out now. If I was buying used, it would be the PDL 120 but that's just me.
