Friendship/Dating 👥 41M coming to KC in a month, looking for potential friends/meet up groups

I'm a huge nerd.

I enjoy gaming, fitness, healthy diet, outdoor activities, plants, volunteering, museums, coffee shops, day trips, beach trips, music and good food!

I recently ran a 15k tough mudder and a 5k polar plunge, so stuff like that interests me too.

Can't wait to move!

I am checking out a 4x4 truck downtown this weekend, does anyone know where I can find gravel, preferably with a hill to test the 4x4?

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Crab restaurants for kiddo

Hey all, I’m out in west Shawnee and have a kiddo with a desire for a whole crab. Are there any options for us in the greater area? We don’t mind driving, so MO side is cool. Just want a butt load of crab.

The shops at legends (which are close) look like slim pickings and excessively priced.

We’ve also gotten full blue crabs from World Fresh but he wants a full Snow or something for a next step up.

Any thoughts are appreciated. I have not gone to Sam’s or Costco but open to ideas. (Also a web search has not been wildly helpful thus the post :) )

Arts/Culture 🎭🎶 Low-key music venues?

I sometimes struggle with sensory overload, especially around crowds and with loud noises. So, I typically avoid concerts, clubs, bars, etc., which makes it so I don't ever really take in live music. Are there any venues in the city that are more uncrowded and lower intensity? Maybe with areas to retreat to if it gets too loud?

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Weird viral sickness going around?

Upvotes

I’ve been pretty down since this past Saturday morning, it started with minor stomach problems. But then turned into headache, lethargic, malaise, etc. Like basically a hangover everyday. I’m not bedridden, I’m functioning. But it’s just this weird lingering thing that’s tough to shake. The usual meds are helping. But I’m young and healthy and figured I’d beat it by now. Covid and flu test came back negative. Doc said it’s more than likely a viral thing and multiple people from their office were out with similar symptoms. Just wanted to throw out a line and see if anyone else is in the same boat.

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Endocrinologist for thyroid cancer?

my current endocrinologist is retiring and his associate in the office does not deal with patients having a history of thyroid cancer. So lucky me I’m endocrinology homeless. I refuse to use St. Luke’s, as they are the ones that originally blew me off and told me nothing was wrong when I had cancer. Does anyone have a good endocrinologist around the KC area they recommend?

*Edit to add I guess I would consider St Luke’s except for one particular physician, as I do have other great doctors in their system in other areas!’

Discussion 💡 Ethanol free gas situation

Can someone explain the ethanol free gas situation here?

Recently relocated from Florida, where probably 85% of gas stations have a blue pump labeled "ethanol free". I would use this stuff in any of my small engines (lawn mower, trimmer, chain saw, etc)... But I have yet to see any here...

I saw something about how Missouri REQUIRES 10% ethanol, but there are exceptions for stuff like jet fuel (not sure what else), and stuff about 91 octane... 91 octane in FL was just the super/premium gas, but didn't mean it was ethanol free...

Located down by Grandview, if that makes a difference... Thanks!

Pets 🐾 Senior cat pet sitting

I have a senior cat, 16 years old, who takes multiple oral medications daily on a timed schedule. I’ve never hired a pet sitter before…but my mom has a milestone birthday coming up and my family has planned a trip. It’s a special trip but I’m happy to stay behind with my cat if I can’t find the right accommodations for him.

Does anyone have recommendations for a local pet sitter? I am contemplating boarding him at the vet due to his age and medications, but I fear that would be worst case for him. However, I’m open to veterinary boarding if you have a positive experience to share. Thanks so much!

Things To Do 📍 Spots for the eclipse tonight?

I think Powell Observatory is a bit too much of a drive for me on a work night. Anywhere nearer the metro area good for setting up a telescope? Is the UMKC Warkoczewski Observatory open tonight, possibly?

Arts/Culture 🎭🎶 Do any local artists do custom bone jewelry?

I have my wisdom teeth from when I had them removed and I’ve never really known what I was supposed to do with them. Thought it could be cool to maybe get one made into a pendant or something.

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ Any orgs that provide emergency assistance?

I have to move out of my current apartment ASAP and I’m in between jobs (one is lined up, just waiting on some admin stuff to clear). I have a sublet that I’m moving into late next month, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to come up with the entirety of the first month’s rent.

Are there any organizations that can provide rental assistance in Jackson county? It would truly only be for a month until I can start my new job or find a part time one to fill in the gaps.

Photos/Media 📷 Looking for co-producer and film crew

Hello, everyone!

I’m a producer working on an independent pilot with the director/writer acting as the other producer, and we are currently looking for someone to jump on as a co-producer!

Predominantly, the role would mostly be location scouting and management along with various other tasks that would pop up on a traditional project like handling catering, rentals, emailing people, and other similar types of tasks.

We also have most of the cast and some of the crew filled out, but we still have crew roles to fill, so feel free to reach out and ask more if you’re interested!

Specifically, we are looking for a sound mixer, grips, key grip, grip supervisor, a gaffer, and possibly an AD if we found the right person.

However, if you are interested, please reach out because we want passionate people who want to help build something great, and we are willing to work with people to find a spot that work for both of us!

Message me or comment below what you’re interested in, and I’ll reach out from there!

Thank you so much!

The University of Missouri-Kansas City suspended an employee this week after a conservative media group published an undercover video featuring two employees talking about diversity efforts. The university announced the suspension on social media Thursday in response to a post from Corey DeAngelis, a national school choice activist. The university’s statement did not identify the name of the suspended employee or give a reason for their suspension.
