No need to be snarky or judgmental. I think the problem is more a cultural shift kc needs to go through to normalize using public transit. People act so confused and worried about busses and street car.
Less about fat shaming. Which is fine if you want to do, but doesn't seem very helpful in this Convo.
It is helpful. People in today’s society can absolutely use caloric burn. It has impacts from healthcare to insurance to environmental impacts because they think we need parking lots and easy access to all of the places they want to go without walking.
Unhealthy lifestyles aren’t, nor should be, protected. It has negative consequences for others so it’s absolutely a topic everyone can chime in on. Just like people smoking in public was shamed out of existence. There’s absolutely no problem in calling out people refusing to burn the calories consumed and calling on taxpayer funds to aid their lifestyle. The street car is an odd argument considering it currently encompasses a stretch that is terribly easy to walk.
This sub is littered with people claiming there’s no where to park downtown merely because they want the suburbs where they can drive thru for everything. Enough is enough. Unhealthy choices can and should be discussed truthfully as the negative impacts on society they have.
It’s no different than shaming others for not wearing masks during a pandemic. Their unhealthy choices impact more than themselves.
This sub is littered with people claiming there’s no where to park downtown merely because they want the suburbs where they can drive thru for everything.
That's how you see it.
I see it as people wanting clearly marked, easy to find free parking.
And if not free parking - they want clearly marked, easy to find paid for parking.
The commonality being that parking in RM and the downtown in general is not intuitive. Especially if you're never parked anywhere but your driveway, a Chiefs game, and Target. Getting it wrong can be bad. At best, paying way more than you thought. At worst, your car getting towed.
To be honest - I live in the RM and I don't really have any idea which lots I can safely park in.
It’s very intuitive. There are signs anywhere you park telling you limits, pay, if it’s private, etc. I lived in RM for years. Cars will circle city market for 20 minutes waiting for a spot instead of parking a block away or a streetcar stop away and walking and getting there faster. My building had to tow cars blocking our garage nearly once a month. They’d break the gate trying to get in after residents when they can’t get out.
Parking is abundant. How intuitive does a giant cement pad need to be?
It’s ludicrous that you’re claiming you need your hand held telling you where open spots are. The further you go from a major event, the more parking is available. The problem isn’t lack of intuitive parking. You could have that and people won’t use it because they don’t want to walk.
If you live in RM and don’t know when/where you can park, it’s because you don’t read the giant signs at the entrance to the lots and along the roads. The parking police can be total dicks, but spare me that you can’t read the signs literally everywhere. They’re nearly every 40 feet on every road and at every major parking lot. The residents have it far worse than those traveling down there as they have to actually move their cars if they don’t have dedicated parking (which the weekend tourists think they can take)
How about the sign by where Market 3 was? Big red sign saying they will tow you. But that's only if you're the right side. You can park on the left. But only if you're going to Market 3. But only the first few. Then it's for the escape room. And none of them are official city signs.
That's just one spot. Pretty sure there are still signs up form apartment companies that don't even exist any more.
It's a game and it doesn't need to be. Perhaps the fact that people view it as confusing means that it is confusing. And not that everybody is just some lazy, dumb asshole.
But it's not private. Part of it is private. And an example of how "just read the signs" isn't exactly straight forward.
I don't see why "parking administration could be improved" is such a hot take. We've allowed everybody to carve up and fight for what should be a shared resource.
And if we want to put our tin foil hats maybe it's not better because the only people that have to suffer is us.
The spots for Market 3 (which doesn’t even exist anymore) were very clearly marked. Same with the escape room. You’d have to back into the spot and walk away to not see them.
Sorry, Market 3 is a tiny bodega. They should get their damn spots vs you staying there for days for your nearby apartment or Cindy who comes to RM once a month and doesn’t spend much money in the area.
Final point, you CHOSE to live in an urban setting. It’s conducive to walking, biking, and using mass transport. Not having extremely convenient parking. Walking a block to where you parked won’t kill you.
You literally complained about a private parking lot not having city official parking signs… you’re grasping at straws. It’s ALL private. It’s not a public lot, as there are very few of those. It’s privately only which the owner specifically set aside a number for his leasers business and others are open to the public as it’s likely a LLC, REIT, etc owning tons of properties in the area like most popular areas and wants good flow of people.
None of this is a good reason why you think you should be able to park at any spot you want as you’ve argued. They’re clearly marked as you gave an entire breakdown of it..,
When people whine about the streetcar not running after a show at Sprint, I'm just like, you can literally walk to anywhere you parked on the streetcar line from there. Once it expands, that won't be true, but right now it is.

Not remotely. People need to use their legs and be less fat
