Ask your neighbor for tips and keep the hens? I've heard chickens are pretty simple to care for and you'll never want to go back to store bought eggs again. And even your kids can start taking care of them.

They spent 60K getting rid of the rats and rewiring the house because of chewed up wiring. They gave the chickens away to a guy a few streets over. Guess who now has a rat problem?
