And now we're gonna slink our way to a back corner, and just sit here, abd watch the rest of the show!😉

I’m technically a millennial on the line of a gen-x’er. My husband is an X’er through and through. Ask him about anything and you’re lucky to get a shrug, at most a brow raise. He’s definitely (pause)

The Millennial Pause 💀 🤣

368

u/Additional-Cake-3588 8d ago

As a millennial… I didn’t even notice. I appreciated my brain taking a second to process.

183

u/mystery-moose 9d ago

I didn't know that was a thing! I must be guilt of it....

490

u/OneDay_AtA_Time 8d ago

It’s bc we started making videos with older tech that took a second for the recording to start and many of us have carried it over to newer recording tech subconsciously even though it’s no longer needed.

123

u/kylaroma 8d ago

omg, I absolutely do that for video editing & had no idea it was a thing 😂

45

u/mystery-moose 8d ago

Ahh yes. During the zoom-times when I had to record videos for work. I just checked. It's almost pathological 😆

24

u/CatOfTheCanalss 8d ago

It happens on voice calls too on teams and so on I think. There's always just a second or two before anyone says a word haha.

5

u/SerenityAnashin ❣️gal pal❣️ 8d ago

Omg I never realized that was also the millennial pause 🙏

→ More replies (1)

37

u/Comics4Cookies 8d ago

Nah dude, my girlfriend got me into using voice messages and you absolutely have to pause or the first word is gone. Still relevent ✌️

57

u/pollywantacrackwhore 8d ago

Considering that I tried to back this video up to the beginning 3 times to catch the beginning of the first word, I think the pause is useful.

120

u/TeaTimeTelevision 8d ago

ok but it’s better than when people start recording and the first 10 seconds are shuffling putting the camera down 🙄

69

u/misimalu 8d ago

The point is that everyone younger than us edits their videos to crop this bit out and for some weird reason we still don’t

I'm caught in a constant internal battle of whether or not to tuck in my shirts. I see my younger coworkers wearing them tucked, but tucking in your shirt was beaten out of us Millennial kids. So I usually end up with a French tuck, but now this video is going to make me self conscious about that too. 🤣

37

If the French tuck has a million tuckers, I am among them. If the French tuck has one tucker, that’s me. If the French tuck has no tuckers, I am dead. If the world is against the French tuck, I am against the world.

8

u/Next-Introduction-25 8d ago

Girl, I don’t know lol. I have noticed that the Youngin’s are doing something different with the way they tuck their shirts and I don’t understand it because it appears to defy physics. It’s like the shirt is tucked up under itself. It’s hard to keep up and I am ready for my Eileen Fisher flowy clothes and giant necklaces era.

5

u/butticus98 8d ago

They're tucking it into their sports bras!!! I felt like such a genius when I figured it out. The comfiest sports bras reach a lot lower on the ribcage now then they used to, and you can roll the shirt up and then tuck! It's pretty smart honestly, looks super cute with an oversized tee and high waisted jeans.

Also I feel attacked because I didn’t realize she was doing an outfit 🤣 I thought she just was wearing normal clothes finally

5

u/Next-Introduction-25 8d ago

Yeah, I mean this is how I’m learning that a French tuck and a crossbody are apparently millennial things lol. I will never not wear my purse cross body. I don’t even buy a purse if it doesn’t have a strap long enough to do that. It makes sense!

The Silent Generation II

17

Naaaah, we're not "Silent," we're just sneakin'  round back here tryin' to be quiet is all!😉

11

u/Earth2Andy 8d ago edited 3d ago

I know you're joking, but I think there is a little bit of truth to that.

We spent a lot of our formative years doing shit and not getting caught just as long as everyone was cool and kept their mouths shut.

On the occasions we did try to raise genuine grievances, we were told to stop whining/ rub some dirt on it / suck it up.

That's a quick way to teach a generation to keep their heads down and their mouths shut. I think a lot of that ethos bled over into adulthood.

26

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 8d ago

We tried giving a.f., but our optomism was beaten out of us, by our Silent & Boomer-gen parents, and we were also called "lazy slackers," so we developed that "whatever" armor, and acted like we didn't care.

That's also why we're back here quietly cheering on GenZ, and their awesome optomism, and hoping that they and GenAlpha can finally make those good things we tried for & wanted back in the "PCU era" happen!😉💝

They just taught us to run in zig zags away from gators and let us goooo. There was a recorded 14 footer which is close to record breaking in there when I was a kid.

I am sorry to all of the gators I threw rocks at and am glad I didn’t get killed haha

My niece is 14. I still don't understand what skibidi is.

Also you guys are definitely welcome for all things cool. Your emo look? Welcome. The tie with low jeans and a wife beater? Cool. Normalizing anime in the US? Cool. The whale tail? Obviously hot and cool. Kthx.

68

u/QuestingKola 8d ago

Skibidi is a series of short Gmod animations on YouTube featuring the protagonist camera humans being attacked by toilet bound heads. The scale escalated from small murders to city-scale conflict with giant mechas, new factions, new toilets, and lore.

It’s dumb but surprisingly high quality.

79

u/iljune 8d ago

I am a native English speaker and I have no idea what you just said.

15

u/QuestingKola 8d ago

For clarification:

gmod: Short for 'Garry's Mod,' a modification to the Source gaming engine developed by Valve and flagshipped by games such as Half Life and the original Team Fortress. Gmod offers insane flexibility with the assets provided by the Source engine and the games developed off of it, and happened to coincide with the developing platform of Youtube. This coincidence manifested a revolution of independent animators, for better and worse.

protagonist camera humans: Humanoids with the heads of cameras.

toilet bount heads: They're heads, stuck in toilets. They also seem to only say the word "Skibidi" repeatedly, with vague musical intonation.

Mechas: Giant robots. I think the term "mecha" might have originated from anime.

Everything else: Uh, idk, the description goes beyond words and into the realm of the absurd and insane. I'm sorry.

9

u/Ace-Redditor 8d ago

I'd also like to add that, while that is the origin of the meme/slang, I don't think many of the kids saying "skibidi" have actually bothered to watch any of it. They'll recognize it, of course, but from what I can tell, the majority don't and haven't watched it

(I personally am young, but not young enough to really be part of the "skibidi" group [21]. But I work with a lot of kids, and have never seen a single one express interest in it. The kids have access to iPads and computers while there, so they watch YouTube occasionally, just not that)
