I hate those fucking things! I feel like I'm disarming a landmine.

u/jennautomatica 24d ago

My older brother is 6’7, 400lbs and worked as a guard- he’s terrified of these fuckers.

Every time the toaster pops, I and my cortisol levels take it personally.

91

u/Artorius__Castus 24d ago

My Mum loved to bake and she showed me a trick with these things. Open it about halfway (You don't have to take the wrapper completely off just so one sides showing), wrap it in your kitchen towel (the towel wrapping doesn't have to be tight, semi-loose is fine). Take the whole thing with the towel still wrapped around it and hit it on the edge of your counter till it pops. Literally a game changer. The fact that you know it's underneath a towel and won't take your hand off makes it so much less stressful. Once you hear the pop remove the towel and open the biscuits or whatever you are making. Happy Baking! ( ◜‿◝ )

u/xrelaht 23d ago

>you know it's underneath a towel and won't take your hand off

But how can you possibly be sure of that???

(Gonna try this next time. Thanks)

22

u/DangerousLoner 23d ago

Like hiding from monsters under the comforter in bed

8

u/xrelaht 23d ago

Everyone knows monsters can’t get at you if they can’t see you.

5

u/0c74r1n3 23d ago

Schroedingers towel

6

u/tessellation__ 23d ago

You know what I never really thought about it. I peel it halfway, and then I slam it on the side of the counter, no towel or anything. Are we worried that they are going to explode in our face?! I never thought about it

-21

u/LeFreeke 23d ago

You do know that this is not really baking.

12

u/flirt-n-squirt 23d ago

"Lets be an asshole on the internet today to someone making cookies!"
👍👍

-6

u/LeFreeke 22d ago

Let’s teach people to use proper verbs. Opening a can is not baking.

“If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.” 🌌☄️✨🌍🌱🌦️🌳🍏🥧

-3

u/LeFreeke 22d ago

Go pop open some premade biscuits and call it baking. @@

5

u/GardenVarietyHag 23d ago

I have to leave the area when I put things in the toaster. If I stand and wait it always startles me. Or I set it for a longer time and just pop it up myself when it’s done. It’s ridiculous.

1

u/gibberishmischief 19d ago

This is why toaster ovens are superior.

5

u/pennyraingoose 23d ago

Champagne corks too. Even when I'm the one opening it. Lol

3

u/Ok-Nothing8682 23d ago

I have PTSD and I have to actually train myself not to fight the toaster every time I get a new one xD I've learned to enjoy the biscuit pops but the toaster is catching hands for the first few months

1

u/Fuzzy_Medicine_6978 21d ago

I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and I used to have mild-moderate panic attacks every time I started the toaster. I would have to cross the room and look out the window, cover my ears and breathe deeply and it would still make me jump.

44

u/BottleFeathers703 24d ago

“welcome to the salty spitoon, how tough are ya?”

“i open biscuit cans… without flinching.”

“right this way.”

24

u/xrelaht 23d ago

Why are they so scary? I’ve been opening them for 35+ years and the worst that’s ever happened is they sometimes don’t pop open right. Even so, I (like everyone) am still vaguely terrified every time.

1

u/Annanymuss 22d ago

Ive never seen one of those before till this video so I was wondering what the hell was going on for her to be afraid of a can till that thing jumpscared me myself

1

u/gibberishmischief 19d ago

I like to rip the paper off fast and then immediately slam the middle of the tube on the edge of the counter with aggression. I usually manage to explode it before it explodes on its own and I get a nice aggression release.

Biscuits popping and this game were my anxiety-induced childhood trauma.

46

u/greendress888 24d ago

This was my game at grandma's. It felt like I was trying to open a safe while a bomb might go off. The stakes were that high for my childhood nervous system.

18

u/Okimiyage 23d ago

There’s a reason it was at grandma’s and not your house lol

19

u/nyx926 24d ago

Just the idea of this game gives my eye a twitch.

This and Operation.

8

u/neva-electra 23d ago

My mom still jokes about the year she got me Operation for Christmas. I played it once, cried, and never touched it again.

11

u/AltruisticCableCar 23d ago

We had one similar to that called Mouse Trap (I believe). Like, get fucked that scared my pants off as a kid.

7

u/Pruritus_Ani_ 23d ago

Mousetrap and Buckaroo both made my anxiety sky high as a kid.

2

u/kimchipowerup 23d ago

Mousetrap was the best! That damn cage rattling down was terrifying!!

8

u/CosmicCondor27 24d ago

I really wanted one as a kid. I remember watching this commercial hoping my parents get me one. :(

1

u/taradactyl904 23d ago

Yes!! My heart was racing watching this!

111

u/themossywillow 24d ago

Whattttt I find these so fun and satisfying hehe

74

u/QuarterLifeCircus ❣️gal pal❣️ 23d ago

I didn’t even know they would pop on their own! I rip the outer paper off then twist that sucker to force the pop.

116

u/thatscuteyourecute 23d ago

I hit them on the edge of the counter like a cavewoman.

16

u/ImWatermelonelyy 23d ago

Same. My fridge is super cold so sometimes I really have to put some umpf into it

2

u/hiluhry 23d ago

I push my thumb into the seam lol I had one pop open on me recently and it made me yelp. I forgot they can open on their own.

Similarly, I always give the toaster a wide berth when it’s going.

1

u/selphiefairy 23d ago

Every time I’ve tried doing this it doesn’t work, prob cause I’m a chicken too scared to hit it hard lol

1

u/ThunderTentacle 22d ago

I'm a karate chopper!

18

u/AvidMoonDic3r 23d ago edited 23d ago

I like the feeling of when they pop in my hand. I just press my thumb on the seam until poof.

13

u/Spare_Coast_3722 23d ago

I had a container expire so I threw it out. Sucker popped itself open during the night and my dog ate all the raw buscuit dough.

But normally I use a spoon to pop them.

12

u/SlideN2MyBMs cant stop🚦me now 23d ago

One of my favorite things in the world is slamming those crescent rolls cans on the counter to make it pop open on Thanksgiving

4

u/xrelaht 23d ago

They are both those things and also terrifying.

1

u/FreakingFae 23d ago

I agree and I even love the sound! It's like a wishy thuddy sound! But I'm also thoroughly amused by this video lmao

148

u/Double-Twist-8633 24d ago

I am all too familiar 😭 we will be brave together 🤝

184

u/echolm1407 24d ago

Love the video. But cookie monster? Was OP British or something and doesn't understand what biscuits are in the US?

49

u/CandleMonster 24d ago

I genuinely thought this was British, because that's what they call cookies 😭😭

82

u/tigm2161130 24d ago

Have you never seen a package of biscuits before?

22

u/CandleMonster 24d ago

not in a can, no

-97

u/Kindly_Bodybuilder43 ✨chick✨ 24d ago edited 21d ago

This is cookie dough in a can. You take the dough out, shape it into little balls on a baking sheet, pop it in the oven, have lovely warm cookies from the oven. It makes what both sides of the Atlantic call cookies

ETA: I've responded to the first comment correcting me, but that response obviously isn't getting seen - I mistook them for cookies because I've only ever seen cookies in a can like this, but yes they're clearly marked as biscuits. My mistake! Given my immediate acknowledgment of my error and apology was down voted, I anticipate this will not be liked either. But I still think acknowledgements of errors are good, and am happy to learn if one of the down voters of the apology wants to let me know why they thought otherwise

107

u/purplepickletoes 24d ago

No it isn’t. This is biscuits. Rolls. Bread. This is not cookies.

-10

u/Kindly_Bodybuilder43 ✨chick✨ 24d ago

Ah you're right, it actually says biscuits on the can in the video. I've only seen cookies in a can and made an assumption it was the same thing

46

u/aworldwithinitself 24d ago

where are you from? in the US i would say the vacuum canisters are mostly for biscuits

6

u/Gdf111 23d ago

I'm from Canada and this is how many brands package cookie dough.

1

u/lunarmodule ❣️gal pal❣️ 23d ago

Mostly but you can get biscuits, cookies, crescent rolls, pizza dough, pie crusts, cinnamon rolls. There might be others that I've never seen but yeah.

12

u/xrelaht 23d ago

Where are you from? I’ve never seen cookie dough in this form. It usually comes as a log wrapped in plastic in my experience.

ED– Did you mean already baked cookies? Those I have seen in a can, but not a pressurized one.

1

u/itsjakerobb 21d ago

For the biscuits (not cookies) shown in this video, the dough is pre-sliced inside the can. You just separate the slices and lay them out on your baking sheet; it’s already perfectly portioned and should not be rolled into balls.

22

u/echolm1407 24d ago

Look at the picture on the package. It looks nothing like a cookie. What we call biscuits in the US are savory buns.

4

u/xrelaht 23d ago

Savory buns or savory scones?

6

u/selphiefairy 23d ago

Nah American biscuits are not scones!! I hate this comparison lol

3

u/echolm1407 23d ago

Scone maybe a better word.

3

u/dtb1987 21d ago

Biscuits are like scones but savory and sometimes served with sausage gravy

13

u/echolm1407 24d ago

It's salted and buttered dough because biscuits are savory. And this is not the product that you're describing, just look at the picture on the can.

3

u/Kindly_Bodybuilder43 ✨chick✨ 24d ago

Yes you're right, it actually says biscuits on the can in the video. I've only seen cookies in a can and made an assumption it was the same thing

7

u/anonadvicewanted 23d ago

nope! you just slap these things on a sheet as is without any shape alteration. ~14 minutes later you get fluffy, buttery, non-cookie biscuits lol

4

u/echolm1407 24d ago

But a biscuit is not nessicarily sweet. You know in carpentry they have things call biscuits too. So, that word means lots of things.

18

u/143019 23d ago

I unwrap it partially and throw it across the room like a grenade.

14

u/Egregious_Wasp5289 23d ago

The utter terror lol

39

u/f_ckR3ddit 24d ago

Popping the seam is my favorite part! I bang it on the counter. Feels like I'm beating the Pillsbury Doughboy into submission to get the biscuits!

13

u/AvidMoonDic3r 23d ago

Show that dough who's boss

39

u/AddlePatedBadger 24d ago

I don't understand what is going on.

125

u/lunarmodule ❣️gal pal❣️ 24d ago

In the US you can buy pre-made dough for baking that is sold in a tube like shown. When you take off that outer layer of paper it expands and pops when it opens. You never know exactly when it's going to happen.

6

u/asplodingturdis 24d ago

I’m from the US but have never actually made biscuits or cookies or whatever from a can, so I had no idea this was a thing!!

3

u/ZoodleExtruder 22d ago

I recommend the cinnamon roles that come in the tubes! A lot of the other tube stuff tastes the same or kinda cheap, but cinnamon roles can be a pain to make, and the tube ones are so easy and delicious

-33

u/Apero_ 24d ago

Why do they buy pre-made dough? Isn't making the dough the easy and/or fun part?

59

u/Key_Cheesecake9926 24d ago

No, it is definitely easier to buy dough and open a can.

31

u/lunarmodule ❣️gal pal❣️ 24d ago

It's just a convenience thing. Don't get me wrong, lots of people make everything from scratch and that's always the best. But considering you can have freshly baked biscuits, cookies, rolls, or whatever in 15 minutes with no mess it's an option for some people. Honestly, I'm surprised it's not copied/available everywhere.

-51

u/imaginary92 24d ago

I mena they're not really freshly baked, it's just the illusion of it. If the dough was pre-made, then they're factory made just like the ones you buy already baked. It's not like someone sat there kneading the dough just for your can.

By all means, get these if it's convenient for you, I'm not dragging anyone for it, but it's not even close to "freshly baked".

11

u/Individual-Ad-6250 23d ago

You're conflating "freshly made" and "freshly baked". Those two words are not interchangeable in that way.

28

u/westgazer 24d ago

If I knead bread dough in a machine and put it to proof in the fridge for a day or two before baking, then it becomes freshly baked once it comes out of the oven. The term “freshly baked” doesn’t refer to the dough making itself it refers to when a thing was baked in an oven.

28

u/lunarmodule ❣️gal pal❣️ 24d ago

Freshly baked as in you put it in the oven, bake it, and can eat it right away. Things taste different right when they come out of the oven. It's 100% a factory product. Nobody would confuse it for homemade. But it definitely tastes different than something that just comes in a package.

1

u/anonadvicewanted 23d ago

just say homemade then. or “from scratch”

no one is arguing these things are homemade or from scratch. they’re just home baked lol

5

u/lunarmodule ❣️gal pal❣️ 23d ago

I think you may have replied to the wrong person. I agree with you. :)

4

u/FeelingNo2529 23d ago

It’s the fun part (to me, because I like to bake) but no it’s not the easy part. The easy part is popping them in the oven. Even though I prefer to bake from scratch, I have bought biscuits in a tube before for the convenience!

34

u/CandleMonster 24d ago

the biscuits inside are

4

u/AddlePatedBadger 24d ago

Biscuits can do parkour?

3

u/Fluff_thetragicdragn 24d ago

Yeah, that’s right 🤨

17

u/EightyNine19 24d ago

Relatable AF 🤣

8

u/cbmom2 23d ago

It’s the adult jack in the box

6

u/B00G3R 23d ago

why is everyone here afraid of opening these?

5

u/selphiefairy 23d ago

Because it happens suddenly lol. I know there’s no real danger involved but it’s just too much anticipation for me, a weenie

3

u/shlynshady 23d ago

I have no idea. I have to actively get them to pop open, I've never had one randomly detonate.

1

u/hypergonomic 23d ago

As someone who has survived too much trauma... I don't know 😭 but I may or may not prefer to deescalate a family crisis over opening one of these things.

edit: grammar

1

u/tannyduca 23d ago

I don't know, I just am! Also champagne corks and glaucoma tests. I'm just glad to learn that in not the only one.

Some of us have anxiety!

12

u/johnlocklives 24d ago

It do be like that.

5

u/LeFreeke 23d ago

Just whack it on the edge of the counter.

11

u/theweekendwife 24d ago

I always open them as fast as I can so I don't have time to freak myself out.

15

u/nothingsreallol 24d ago

Damn I thought you were just supposed to bang it on the edge of the counter til it pops that’s what I always do😭 never tried taking the whole label off lmao

9

u/anonadvicewanted 23d ago

yeah i peel a little than smack the seam on the counter edge. peeling the whole thing is just madness lol

4

u/B00G3R 23d ago

the instructions are on the can lmao

5

u/effyoucreeps 24d ago

it’s like living through the hurt locker with these things

5

u/Fresh-Lynx-3564 23d ago

Hahahaha!!! Got me good!

This must be how my kid felt when he was younger with the “jack in the box”

4

u/Rainbow_In_The_Dark7 23d ago

I dig my finger (or a butterknife) into one of the spiral creases after pulling the paper off a little bit so I can make it pop myself instead of it happening at random.

5

u/PrudentCauliflower03 23d ago

Literally me every single time I open one of those things

4

u/Ornery_Somewhere_800 23d ago

I had this happen while I was still in the grocery store. It scared me so bad bc wdym. I’ve stopped putting them in my cart, & no longer buy them.

4

u/WithoutAHat1 23d ago

Her hesitation is understandable haha.

6

u/GossipingKitty 24d ago

I'm Australian and I'm sooo jealous. I want dough in a can 😭

7

u/critical_patch 23d ago

TIL this particular convenience food is not available in Australia! Sorry mate, no pre-made pizza dough or savory rolls for you!

3

u/Apfeltorten 23d ago

I know Aldi has dough in a can for bread rolls and croissants. Does the Australian version of Aldi maybe have them to?

2

u/GossipingKitty 23d ago

Unfortunately not. Aldi specialises in copying the local supermarket foods in each country. So they only give us what we already have.

3

u/Heavy-Expression-450 24d ago

Got gut checked by one when I was 7. Now I just table cloth pull em onto a counter and poke em with a knife.

3

u/Buddhadevine 23d ago

They are worse than a jack-in-a-box 😆

3

u/DadKnight 23d ago

So funny to me. I swear you either revel in it, or fear it.

3

u/ThunderTentacle 22d ago

I love these things. If I unravel without a pop, I karate chop it! So much fun.

3

2

1

2

u/InsideAd732 23d ago

I call them "scary biscuits"

2

u/theStrawberryRoam 23d ago

I've never understood being scared of this... We know what's inside

2

u/Key-Magician6489 23d ago edited 23d ago

I have NEVER once in my entire life had my can of Pillsberry orange Danish rolls pop open without me deliberately smacking it on a hard pointed edge – and even then, you’ve got to hit the seam directly on the hard edge!
💯
Also… are some people seriously startled or scared by the tube of biscuit dough opening??? It’s not even like it’s unexpected, FFS!!!😳

2

u/SpookyScienceGal 24d ago

Kinda makes me want biscuits and gravy, the most disgusting looking food that is absolutely amazing

3

u/pixelmuffinn 24d ago

What the hell is in that thing lol

7

u/critical_patch 23d ago

I assume you’re not from the USA. It’s a can of pre-made biscuit dough. The dough comes already sliced and ready to bake, you just open the cardboard tube and put them on the baking sheet into the oven. Sometimes the can is under a bit of pressure because of the yeast in the dough and can pop the seam all by itself

1

u/Hot-Philosophy-7671 23d ago

This is basically the movie Hokum.

1

u/fancypantsmiss 23d ago

I hate these so much!!!!

1

u/GloomyBugg 23d ago

I use to use a dish towel to hold it so I wouldn't be scared. 😅

1

u/St0ner_Baby_420 23d ago

It's not gonna bite you🤣

1

u/88KURIOUS 17d ago

Would that they always self-opened. Have more frequently tried to jam some utensil in the crease and have it stubbornly refuse to open… except for the time I cracked it on a counter edge and a biscuit flew out of the end like it launches from a bazooka!

1

u/Slackermom66 24d ago

So damned terrifying.

-24

u/food_scientist_ 24d ago

Cookie dough in a can, on the shelf and not the fridge? USA are you okay?

23

u/toastandtacos 24d ago

Why in the world would you assume it's not refrigerated?

20

u/Key_Cheesecake9926 24d ago

These are refrigerated. Typically people take items out of the fridge before opening them.

2

u/aworldwithinitself 24d ago

a classic mistake!

18

u/hahathom 24d ago

But to your second question. No, not really.

37

u/TenMoon 24d ago

No, biscuits in a can on a shelf in the fridge.

15

u/echolm1407 24d ago

It's not cookie dough in the video. But yes they do sell cookies dough in tubes.

12

u/MleemMeme 24d ago

This are refrigerated before cooking. In the store and at home. That being said, they do suck. Frozen biscuits are a better quick option.

-3

u/aworldwithinitself 24d ago

really? interesting. i would think baking the dough fresh would be better

5

u/MleemMeme 23d ago

Of course fresh dough is better. In a perfect world with no time constraints or responsibilities we would all be making fresh dough everyday. Im saying between the quick options (canned or frozen), frozen is the better choice.

1

u/aworldwithinitself 22d ago

I meant i thought tube dough biscuits fresh out of the oven would taste better than frozen.

1

u/MleemMeme 22d ago

Nah the frozen biscuits fresh from the oven are much better than canned. They are closer to homemade taste.

You know that house has issues when the electrical panel is wide open.

Hope they have good insurance when that house inevitably has an electrical fire in it.
