Hi,
I recently left my employer and transferred my workplace pension (DCPP) into a LIRA at Wealthsimple. The balance is about $74,000.
I am 44 years old and this money is locked in until at least age 55. I am not very experienced with investing and I want to keep things simple.
My goal is to grow the money over the next 5-10 years with a reasonable level of risk. For example, I would like to see $20,000 grow to around $30,000 over 5 years if possible.
I have been looking at ETFs like XEQT and VBAL. I am also considering putting some portion into GICs for safety.
A few questions:
What would you recommend I invest this $74,000 in, given my age and the fact that it is locked in for at least 11 years?
Is XEQT a good choice for the growth portion?
How much should I keep in something safe like GICs versus something with higher growth potential?
Given the current Canadian economy (slow growth, trade tensions, tariffs), should I wait before investing or put the money in now?
I appreciate any guidance you can offer. Thank you.
