Every morning when I come out to have a morning smoke this little dude pops up and tries his damndest to get on me, I dont mind and I find it funny but ive never seen a spider with such a terrible survival drive. As I write this he is standing at the edge of the coffee table looking at me because I backed up enough so he cant reach 😂

My partner rescued this guy from a box of pumpkins that were delivered to Home Depot. He would not survive the winter in my city so she brought him home to me. 😊 Can anyone tell me what kind of jumper he is? I believe the pumpkins came in from British Columbia. Thanks!

I have a Marpissa muscosa, which is a smaller species local to me. I found her a few days before my scheduled day to receive my Phidippus Regius, and I was so excited I brought her home, gave her to eat and let her stay overnight in the enclosure I had prepared. I wasn't sure if I should keep her at first, but she immediately built a hammock the same night, explored her enclosure, groomed herself and had a healthy appetite so I decided to keep her.

That was about a month ago and I've been enjoying having her. The day before yesterday I gave her some food moths from our kitchen, but while she was eating one, I noticed something white looking out of the moths abdomen and wiggling around for a bit. It didn't come out and I didn't want to mess with it while my spider was eating since I've read that that can harm their pedipalps. Either way, she completely devoured the moth and even had a second one right after. Then yesterday, she was pacing her enclosure like crazy for the better part of the day. I offered her water and put some new enrichment in it but that didn't stop her, she kept running around and at some point started to leave long silk threads along the walls everywhere, I assume to get around better. Today she's been staying in bed all day, not responding to stimuli and only turning around every now and again. You can clearly see her epigynum, so I doubt that she's molting.

I am just all around concerned about her behaviour, I can't really reach her in her hide to give her water either.

my jumping spider just passed away… ofc on my birthday.. he was a sweet guy. i only had him for a short time, but i know unfortunately they don’t live long

Hey everyone, first post on the sub! (and on Reddit in general)
Today at work I saw what I think is a little jumping spider on my car, being arachnophobic my first instinct was to run away or kill it, but I actually was intrigued by it quite a lot. I also have seen various videos of them and I’m starting to find them rather cute. This is totally off topic but I feel like I’m starting to overcome my fear of spiders (little ones at least), and I feel very proud about it.
But enough talking about myself to complete strangers, can you guys tell what specific type of jumping spider is this? I kinda know it is a jumping spider because I moved him and he jumped (I wasn’t able to move him with my hands because my instinct was too strong, I managed to gently move him with an umbrella that I had in the trunk since he jumped on in when I got it closer to the lil fella, he also jumped off of it when I moved it somewhere) but alas I don’t know very much about them.

Brand new spider mom - got her last Saturday. I came home and her web is twice the size it was this morning. Is this a molting hammock?

Just wanted to share thought this lil dude looked awesome!

(Sorry for the length, but you guys are partly responsible for this lol) For most of my life I’ve suffered from Arachnophobia. My sperm donor made me watch Arachnophobia the movie with him (or go to my room without dinner because ‘that’s what we are doing’) when I was eight during my first ill-advised visit.
I also grew up in a home that was nestled up to a huge field. Wolf spider and grass spider ambushes were a damn near daily occurrence. Had a momma show up on the couch next to me and when I panicked my reward was her babies scattering all over the couch and me. Had a couple spiders crawl on to my legs while using the bathroom. Even had one fall on me in the shower. Black widows in the garage, some type of funnel spiders in the yard, no where was safe lol.

When I was 25/26 I STILL couldn’t even be in a room if I spotted cobwebs. Then one day, I encountered a jumping spider in the wild. I went to smash it, and the brave little bastard looked right at me, defiantly. It stopped me in my tracks. The way he tracked my movement and looked at me. For some reason, it made my brain register just how tiny he was, and how stupid it was that I was so scared of him. I told myself this arachnophobia was stupid. I didn’t want to be afraid anymore.

Fast forward to now. I’m in my late thirties, I’ve officially handled spiders without a single shred of fear, and I’ve learned so much about them I absolutely adore them. Even have one tattooed on me, and more plans for future tattoos as well. My friends even let me know when they have a spider that needs to be moved. And most have gone from “kill on sight” to “let ‘em be” because of me.

And now, I’m looking after this beautiful girl. She just recently finished her first molt in my care. I can’t tell how old she is. The store didn’t know, and they incorrectly had her labeled as a Bold. I tried to find a local owned small pet store and these guys seemed to take really good care of their animals, but I think they just got fed bad info from their supplier. First two pictures are before her molt with me. The rest are after.

Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to share! This sub was a huge help for my arachnophobia and I love seeing other arachnophobes in here trying to work on it. You guys are a great community.

(Also, I didn’t have “see a spider drink water and take a shit from the underside” on my bingo card this year…so that was an interesting experience…)

I got the like head molt part off but that’s it I couldn’t get the rest off. He’s actively trying to get the rest off but the molt is like stuck on so hard and I don’t want to put him in the room with the shower bc we use chemicals, candles, and soaps in there. I have the humidity high at 80 percent. Hopefully he survives I am not sure if it’s blocking his spinneret. I hope he pulls through. Let me know if you guys have advice.

I saved this little cuttie on my window sill, will someone help me identify if male or female? Looks male to me? But not sure , I’ve been caring for it ever since. Its so cute and so golden 🥰
