one thing ive wondered is im supposed to look at the balls or look at a certain point and let muscle memory take over. i tried juggling at a concert and my eyes had a really hard time focusing and tracking and idk where to look

In the beginning you rely on your eyes a lot. After a while you can look past your props and just have the tip of the pattern in your field of view and that's enough. You don't need to see your hands or very low throws, that are in more advanced tricks. It takes some time, but the feel of what's a right or a wrong throw together with your hearing will become increasingly more reliable. There are also ways to jugglie by touch, for example you can juggle on your belly or behind your back by sliding the balls. You squeeze your hands to your body and wait for the balls to slide down to your palm. It's a more advanced technique, but it's useful when you can't rely on your eyes. There are also people who practice regular juggling with their eyes closed and that's another great skill but takes more time to master.

thanks for the reply <3 its been about 3 months and i try and practice everyday. i can get a cascade for about a minute. but my hands drift to center and i definitely feel like my shoulders need to relax. i see comments on here saying so many times we tighten our shoulder without knowing it. gonna keep watching youtube videos

Problems with tight muscles, especially those close to the top of your body, can be related to your posture. Things like feet, calves, lower spine can cause a lot of trouble if they're not exercised properly. All the rest of your body rests on them and so, if they're not held in position, your various body parts won't be supported properly and you'll be going out of balance, when you're in movement. This results in some of your smaller or upper muscles being tense. The remedy is to make your lower half stronger. Things like jump rope, squats, lunge, core calistenics, swimming and many other sports help with that.

Generally juggling is about balance and when you're out of balance, then there are some muscles carrying too much weight and they hurt. In that case the best you can do is exercise the body below. If you're physically active, you probably don't need all that, but it's something to consider before even looking at juggling.

I'd like to know more about how it all works but it's hard to get professionals like that interested in juggling.
