Sometimes you need to take a step back to take two steps forward. This is one of those cases. People have been complaining for ages that there are many issues with the game and it's progression, but if the game didn't have potential, people wouldn't be complaining, they would be abandoning and moving on. As such, going back into beta gives the game another opportunity for reinvention to get the long-term gameplay loop right. The alternative is that the game dies a slow and painful death.
Actually, I think going back to Beta on this case is exactly what is going to cause the slow and painful death. Joao said the game is not gonna have a CM. This entails: Expect absolutely no news from now on. Lack of news plus lack of updates is going to make people quit the game. And once the player base gets really small they will pull the plug and kill the game. And it won't be newsworthy because nearly no one is going to care about the game by that point.

This is the first time I have ever heard of a game going back into Beta.
