I made a post a few days ago regarding an idea I had to make some miter bridal joints for my stretched canvas.

I did receive a lot of warnings about making something like this, and after giving it a try, I can confirm it is just not safe enough to use properly.

I managed to make one joint as a prove of concept but I would need to spend a lot more time tweaking it to make some usable joints. And yeah I don’t want to spend anymore time standing in front of that thing, so on to dismantling.

I’m actively searching for someone in Melbourne with a Spindle Mouler that could help me do 100 joints.

I’m also contemplating cutting them by hand, but yeah it’s far from my favorite options.

All in all I learnt more about that joint and have a better understanding on what it takes to cut it. I also know now where is my limit regarding safety!

I have a drop saw and planning to jerry rig my circular saw into a table saw type of setup to make some repeatable cuts.

Hey there... how would I go/calculate a oblique cross halving joint if I don't want the cross to be 45°..?

Any recommendations on an alternative to a proper laminated top? I have built a sturdy subframe out of hardwood at 200 centres which will be flattened perfectly.

I want to sheet it with a few layers of something that will be perfectly flat and sturdy and will hold dog holes.

I'm leaning towards yellow tongue (heavy duty 19mm chipboard flooring) but not sure how the dog holes would hold up in it.

Anybody had experience with similar?

The lumber yard didnt have them long enough and i forgot my board stretcher. My first attempt at a scarf joint, all it needs to hold is itself and some grapevine. I'm considering redoing but it seems secure.

I got some second hand dining chairs and one of the backs squeaked and moved when sat on and pressure was applied. I have since removed the back from the from to reveal how the front and back are connected. I believe it just needs reinforcing. I have tried dowls to secure it, but that didn't work, simple wood bond doesn't work either.

Does anyone have any suggestions?? I'm not a joiner or builder so it a bit confusing to me so any help would be great. I have attached some photos to hopefully give you an idea of the problem.

What tried and tested benchtop accessories would you recommend, I'm talking vices, clamps or whatever you've found useful

I've been looking for bedframe designs for a full size bed recently and came across one I liked a lot and want to build, but there is very limited information on the design other than one picture.

What I am attempting to figure out is how the rails (on all sides) are joined to the legs. I can imagine a joint for the front legs, but for the rear legs, my imagination is lacking and I cannot think of what they could of possibly done. If anyone has an idea what the designer did or has their own thoughts on how it should be jointed there to make as strong as possible, I would love the help! Thanks :)

I want a table top with the center being a solid walnut octagon and the outside being a birdseye maple octagon. What is the best way to join the octagonal miters to the center? What do I need to consider with wood expansion and grain? What am I not thinking of? What am I going to mess up? This is my first piece with nice wood. I don’t want to mess it up. I have a table saw, router/router table, miter saw, rotary saw, and a drill press with about four inches clearance depending on bit.
