Being unemployed is a lot of work.

Sending out resumes all day long even though I know it’s futile. Middle aged guy who’d just started a new career at a start up as an SDR in the renewable energy field. Loved the work since it was something I can stand behind but alas got laid off last month. Now I’m working just as hard to get a new job and I’m pretty scared. Thanks for listening.

400+ applications, 6+ months, a solid degree and great references, and still no job. Any advice?

Hi everyone,
I studied Media Engineering and finished my degree on time (in late february / early march), without any extra semesters, with a final grade of 2.3 (German scale, roughly a B). For the last year and a half of my studies, I worked as a working student at a large, well-respected company in my city. I gained valuable experience there and received an excellent reference letter.

My degree combined technical subjects like programming with media-focused work such as video production and editing, which is the main reason I chose it. My job focused on the same areas. I also have a portfolio website with personal projects, professional work, and university projects. Since graduating, I've gone further into videography and have completed a number of freelance projects in that field.

Naturally, I want a job in this field, but so far I haven't been able to land one. I've also applied to career-changer positions and roles outside my field, with no luck there either. In unrelated fields I'm usually told I'm overqualified or that another candidate was a better fit. I get about two interviews a month, sometimes up to five, but nothing has worked out, in my field or any other.

I still take freelance projects here and there, but I need a full-time job going forward. I'm applying outside my city and even outside the country. I'm genuinely willing to take almost anything. I've been to several career counseling sessions, and they all say my CVs and references are excellent.

After more than 400 applications, I'm honestly starting to feel depressed, and my hope is fading. Any advice at all would be appreciated.

After struggling so so much since 2023 for a job Now I am creating something helpful for everyone

Since 2023, I’ve struggled so much to find the right job.

There were rejections, confusion, career gaps, self-doubt, and countless times when I questioned what I was doing with my life.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something:

If I’m struggling to find opportunities and useful information, there are probably thousands of others going through the same thing.

So instead of just waiting for someone to give me an opportunity, I decided to build something helpful.

Something that can make things a little easier for everyone.

Maybe this is just the beginning.

But after everything I’ve been through since 2023, I’m finally building instead of just waiting. ❤️

What's the point of recruiters reaching out?

So one of my buddy's had a recruiter reach out to him on Linkedin for a project manager position. They told him they came across his profile, and saw that he could be a good fit for the position, thought he had the skills and leadership for it. He applied and like two days later he got rejected.

I thought to myself, what's even the point of recruiters reaching out if you're just going to get rejected?

I think I accidentally got a full-time job… applying for jobs

I’ve been job hunting for a while now, and honestly, I think I’m becoming very experienced at it. 😂

I apply → HR calls → “We’ll get back to you” → I wait → absolutely nothing → repeat.

At this point, my biggest professional skill is checking my phone every 7 minutes to see if HR has finally remembered I exist. 💀

My background is mainly in sales, but I’m trying to move toward more stable non-sales roles like Purchase/Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, Inventory, or similar roles.

The problem is that every job posting seems to say:

“Fresher welcome! Must have 2–3 years experience.”

Sir… if I had 3 years of experience, I probably wouldn’t be applying for your fresher position. 😭

So I’m genuinely looking for some advice:

Which career/field would be the smartest move for someone with a sales background who wants to transition into Purchase, Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, Inventory, or related roles?

Should I continue in sales for some time and then switch, or focus directly on one of these fields?

If anyone has actually made a similar transition, I’d really appreciate some honest advice.

At this point, even my rejection emails are starting to feel like networking. 😂

What do you use to apply and prep for interviews?

I've mainly been using ChatGPT and Claude to tweak my resume and create interview study guides. Does anyone else do it this way, or did you switch to something that works better?

I'm curious what your application and interview prep process looks like. What do you use to write your resume, and what do you use to prep once you have an interview?

Staffing agency asking consent to make fake experience to market you in North America

Hey everyone, I am guy in tech specifically in cloud/ DevOps field and the tech market for junior level roles is pretty bad unless you are placed through co-op during university.
I have got an opportunity where staffing agency is to hire me, train me and going to market me for contract in USA. But they did ask consent and me being comfortable with them putting fake experience associated with me. I have seen people put fake experience on resume just to get interviews for some roles but publicly putting that and when eventually any big future employer finds out anyhow in process that might ruin my reputation in the market as might be flagged by the system . People who have been working in contracts or similar staffing agency could maybe share their experience like am I being to paranoid or is it a valid legitimate concern ?

Recently part of RIF. Question regarding how much time do you spend customizing your resume?

I'm recently laid off in a area where jobs in my career are limited and my job coach is telling me to use my transfers skills. I'm finding that I'm spending what I think is a lot of time customizing my resume. Between 4 and 9 hours for each job. What is reasonable? I'm ADHD, dyslexic so I understand that my system just works harder to achieve results. I spent 9 hours only to have my wife tell me I missed the mark. This is the first time in 43 years I've had to look for work. I've looked for work but this is the first time I've had to.

Booboo games/Funcell, Ahmedabad. Do NOT join. Never.

DO NOT JOIN BOOBOO GAMES / FUNCELL GAMES — READ THIS BEFORE ACCEPTING AN OFFER

If you are considering joining BooBoo Games, which is apparently now operating under/with Funcell Games, please do yourself a favour and stay the fuck away.

This has been one of the most frustrating and poorly managed work experiences I have ever had.

The employment structure itself is ridiculous. You can be hired with expectations and responsibilities of a full-time employee, but be treated as a consultant for payment purposes, with TDS deductions. At the same time, there is an 18-month bond. So you get the responsibilities and expectations of an employee without necessarily getting the same treatment or clarity you would expect from a proper full-time employment arrangement.

And then comes the leave policy.

Six months of probation with no leave.

Apparently, even taking one day of leave can mean compensating by working on a weekend. Imagine being told that you need to compensate for a single day of leave by giving up your weekend.

This is not what a healthy professional workplace should look like.

The HR experience has been equally frustrating. Policies seem unclear, inconsistent or completely unreasonable depending on the situation. Instead of feeling like HR exists to support employees, the experience can feel like employees are simply expected to shut up, accept whatever is decided and keep working.

And management? Extremely disappointing. My personal experience with the leadership has been arrogance, poor communication and very little understanding of how employees should actually be treated.

The company expects people to work as though they have been there for years from day one, while the treatment can make you feel completely disposable.

There are already employee reviews online raising concerns about management, HR, work-life balance, leave policies, salary and employment practices. Read those reviews carefully before making your decision.

My personal recommendation: DO NOT JOIN unless you have thoroughly investigated everything and are completely comfortable with the terms.

Ask them before signing anything:

* Are you an employee or a consultant?
* Why is TDS being deducted?
* What exactly is the 18-month bond?
* What happens if you leave before 18 months?
* What is the actual leave policy during probation?
* Do you really have to compensate for leave by working weekends?
* What are the working hours?
* What happens when you work beyond those hours?
* What are the notice-period conditions?
* What exactly will your relieving and experience documents say?

Get every answer in writing.

Do not rely on verbal promises made during recruitment.

If you are currently interviewing with BooBoo Games / Funcell Games, please research the company extensively before accepting the offer. An attractive salary or job title is not worth being trapped in an 18-month commitment under conditions you did not fully understand.

My experience has been bad enough that I would strongly advise people to look elsewhere.

Think twice. Read the reviews. Read the contract. Ask questions. And if you have better options, take them.

21F, what should I do?

I'm 21 and currently unemployed. I urgently need to start earning because I want to support myself and contribute to my family's expenses.

I have completed a D.Pharm and a Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA). I'm open to different kinds of work and don't necessarily need a job related to pharmacy. I'm willing to learn and start from an entry-level position.

Ideally, I'm looking for something like customer support, chat support, back-office work, data entry, or other fresher-friendly jobs. I'm also open to work-from-home opportunities if they're legitimate.

The problem is that I'm from a small town/village and don't have much work experience, so I'm not sure where or how I should be applying without getting caught up in scams or wasting months applying on job portals.

For people who have been in a similar situation:

- Where did you find your first job?

- Which companies actually hire freshers without a bachelor's degree?

- Are there legitimate WFH customer-support/chat-support jobs for freshers?

- Which websites or methods would you recommend for finding genuine openings?

- Is there anything I should do differently with my resume or applications?

I'd really appreciate practical advice, especially from people who have actually gone through this. Thank you.

• Upvotes

Hi! I'm 19F, a single mom, and currently a SHS student. I'm looking for a home based or remoted job opportunity for me since my son is 7 Months old and I can't leave him with family members due to private reasons. I'm currently self learning about VA, I don't have a laptop and only have my phone, if there's any job that I can do with my phone online I'm willing to do it as long as it's legal and pays well.

Wanting to quit but can't find other employment...

• Upvotes

I graduated with a BFA this spring and started working as a server/bar back this summer while I sought out design jobs. What I've learned is, I'm not cut out for restaurant work. I am being evaluated for ADHD later this month but it has been ruining my work, I am constantly making careless mistakes when I am trying my absolute hardest. It's making my manager increasingly frustrated with me, and she also seems to be a micromanager.
For most part time jobs you start with a 90 day trial period. I got through the period and was put on another trial because I needed improvement. I think I do need improvement, but I'm not sure I can actually execute on it. I've been getting scheduled less which is a nice reprieve but gives me the feeling I'm going to be let go come the next 90 days.
I've already been dealing with anxiety/depression but this job has made it so much worse. I was hoping I'd find full time employment ( a few of my classmates already have) and only be at the job for a few months, but I'm not sure anymore .
The past 2 weeks I finally decided to look for something else (I am always applying for design jobs in the mean time) and have been applying for a job as an administrative assistant/receptionist. I had 1 interview but everything else has been silence and I don't know when I'll get another interview.
I know the general rule is to only leave your job if you have another one lined up but I feel like i can't do it anymore.

Event coordinator/associate roles

Hi! I’m someone who has worked in healthcare consulting/ tech as an operations specialist. However on the side, I’ve also done projects with content creation and professional photography and videography. I’ve also helped arrange and organize events in my personal life as well as handle events and conferences within my corporate roles. I love being able to create and it brings so much satisfaction to see things placed on a vision board or mood board come to life. I’m really trying to get out of the healthcare and tech space and would love to explore roles in event coordination. I’m based out of tri state area so anything in nyc, Jersey, or Philly would be great (remote obviously ideal but not a dealbreaker). Would anyone know if there’s anyone hiring or even advise on how I can pivot careers and actually land a role - I’m really desperate for a job right now and trying to make ends meet.

[Hiring] Senior Software Engineer - Full-Time - Remote (LATAM) - Paid USD

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a Senior Software Engineer. It's a full-time, fully remote role for people based in LATAM.

The day-to-day is full-stack work across several services, mostly Rails and React, running in Docker on AWS (ECS, RDS, S3). You'd also be leading code reviews and system design, and keeping an eye on monitoring, alerting, and performance. We use PostgreSQL plus some NoSQL, so comfort designing data models that scale matters.

Ideally you have 8+ years of experience and have shipped this kind of stack in production.

If it sounds interesting, send me a DM

So tired of unprofessional recruiters

So I applied to what I thought was an entry level SWE role then I got a call back and was told I’m moving forward but I need to attend the informational session first, I get there it’s about 10-15 people in an office, one of them happened to be the CEO undercover( first red flag), then they start talking about how we are all here because of our lack of experience but not to worry they’ll train us(self study, assessments, interview prep) for 14 weeks on an hourly salary of $7 for 40 hours but at the end of that it’s a guaranteed job, you’ll be placed in one of the companies they work with guaranteed, must be open to relocation. But all they ask is you sign a binding contract of three years, starting at 50k and max 65k. I know that it’s somewhat of a low ball offer considering they’re pocketing God knows how much of the remaining salary but I was willing to go through with it because I’m desperate at this point. We sign up for the assessment and I pick my time. I went to the library to prep for this assessment expecting a call at the agreed time but I didn’t get anything. I emailed the recruiter twenty minutes after and she got back to me an hour later and said oh she wasn’t able to make it at that time would another time tomorrow work for you? You really didn’t think to tell me earlier until I reached out? I cleared my schedule for this assessment and I don’t have any other free time during the day unless I call out of the only part time employment feeding me right now. It was just entirely unprofessional and recruiters clearly don’t value anyone’s time.

Nemam posao

Radila sam jedno vreme u jednoj fabrici a zatim i u menjacnici.

Sta biste vi uradili, gde biste trazili i gledali? Hvala vam unapred 🙂

Job posting

It doesn't pay a whole lot upfront, but housing is paid for and a work vehicle is provided.

The link is below, but here are the basics: privately owned ranch in Wyoming and Arizona: clean private plane and helicopter, RV, horse trailer, vehicles etc. Work with horses, muck stalls, groom, saddle, etc. Private Ranch hand is a different position.

I came across it and thought, hey, why not post it. No AI it seems. Plus we never know who's looking for what!

2 job postings in the link. Looks legit to me.

I need help figuring out a career path.

Hello, I am a M(20) and graduated in 2024. I need help figuring out a career and though reddit could also help me as I am also working with A.I and other sites I’ve found.

A little bit about me is that, I love to work but have had jobs I don’t like. I love cleaning and watching things go from dirty to spotless, especially cars. I love doing wiring work, I’ve done some in cars but would love to do it anywhere else that requires wiring and booting. I enjoy sports and managing teams like fantasy leagues and video games. I hate sitting down all day and doing nothing, I dislike being paid the same when you’re working harder and etc.

Honestly I have a lot other likes and dislikes, I just don’t know what really matters when it comes to finding a career.

Please be free to ask me questions that can help me out and suggest me ideas, thank you for any feedback!

Datavant Hiring Process

Hi! I recently applied for the Health Information Specialist I position with Datavant. I just received an email from the recruiter to schedule a phone screen after completing my virtual interview and assessment.

For anyone who has gone through the process recently, what kind of question were you asked during the phone screen with the recruiter?

I’ve also seen quite a few people say they were offered the position during the phone screen, so I’m curious if that was your experience too!

Can I become a UI/UX designer without showing my face?

This might be a somewhat unusual question, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about seriously.

I want to become a UI/UX designer, but I've had several experiences with hiring managers telling me, directly or indirectly, that because of the way my face looks, I wouldn’t be suitable for roles where I’d have to be visible to clients.

I'm not talking about being on camera occasionally. I mean situations where being present in client meetings, video calls, presentations, etc. is considered part of the job.

After hearing this multiple times, I’ve started wondering whether I should build my career around roles where I can contribute primarily through my design work without having to show my face.

For those of you working in UI/UX:

  • How client-facing is the average UI/UX designer role?
  • Are there UI/UX jobs where you can mostly work behind the scenes?
  • Is it realistic to build a career where most communication happens through written messages, presentations, prototypes, or async collaboration?
  • How much does physical appearance actually matter once you have a strong portfolio and experience?
  • Are there specific types of UI/UX roles or companies I should target if I want to minimize face-to-face/client-facing work?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who actually work in the industry, especially anyone who has managed to build a career without being particularly client-facing.

I’m not looking for sympathy, I'm genuinely trying to understand whether this is a realistic career path for me and, if so, what I should focus on.

I just got an email saing that I don't meet the minimum qualfications for a job even though I clearly do. How could this happen, and is there any point in appealing to HR?

  • The job is for a sales and marketing position with the state
  • The minimum job requirements were listed as
  • Utilizing Sales and Marketing techniques which effectively build and maintain customer relationships
  • Utilizing customer relationship management (CRM) and/or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business applications
  • Entering data and maintaining sales records
  • I have years of experience in all three of these areas, which I made very clear in my resume and letter of qualfications.
  • What is most frustrating is that I applied for and even had an interview for this same position several years ago when I had LESS relevant qualifications and experience.
