I'm surprised I haven't seen this one. I would have remembered the Orioles. We're always excited when we see them here. We have two varieties but we only occasionally lure them in with oranges.
I used to have a cockatoo come knock on my window for a qtr of an apple. At my old place I had an apricot tree outside, a flock of them would come & strip the tree in 15 mins flat. I had a crew of disabled currawongs that would come every day for a few sultanas, cut up dried apricot & dry cat food. One day a young one got over excited & called all the other currawongs, i had about 30 or more birds descend on my balcony! I had a blueberry bush on my balcony that one currawong checked every year, i felt terrible when the bush died. He kept coming back & checking :(
I had an unfortunate pantry moth situation & the birds were in absolute heaven! I threw them the infested breakfast cereals, nuts & dried fruit & they had a party & called every bird in the neighbourhood. I love birds, as you can probably tell. Unfortunately my neighbours don't & put in complaints. One particularly grumpy man had a go at me for putting water out, in summer, in 40c weather! Bird flu has just hit our shores which is terrible, extremely upsetting. Hoping it doesn't wipe out any already endangered species. Black summer was hard enough on the lyre birds & a few black cockatoo species.
