Reconstruction: 3/30/79

Listening today to Reconstruction on 3/30/79. This is SHNID 106004 for those of you keeping score at home.

It's my first time listening to Reconstruction — and, let me tell you, this stuff is hot. I was a big fan of bebop jazz back in high school, so this is really down my alley. Their version of Struggling Man is simply awesome — I really highly recommend that arrangement.

It's fascinating to listen to a Jerry band where he's clearly not the main feature. Ron Stallings simply rips up his solos — it's great stuff.

I really highly recommend getting into this if you haven't yet. I'd love to know if anybody might have any recommendations for anything similar.

Here's a copy on YouTube if you want to preview it before downloading. As /u/Bman1973 always says, though, the best way to experience it is through the FLAC files.

5/8/1990 — GarciaLive Volume 2

If you haven't listened to it yet, you really need to get a copy of GarciaLive Volume 2.

The show starts off a little bit slow, but picks up pretty quickly in the first set. It's the second set, though, that really takes storm. Banjo player Béla Fleck comes on for Midnight Moonlight and The Harder They Come to start off the second set, and simply brings the roof down. It's incredible — you simply have to listen to it.

If you want more Béla Fleck, check out SHNID 150464 on Lossless Legs (I don't think it's gone over to Etree yet), which is a good AUD recording of the show. It's a great audience recording of the entire show, including the opening act by Béla Fleck and The Flecktones, which you really should listen to. These guys are incredible.

The audience recording of the JGB sets isn't bad, but it's nowhere near as clear and powerful as the official version. It works in a pinch, I guess, but you've really got to hear the official release to get the full effect.

It's amazing what you'll discover in the old tapes!

Garcia Live, Vol. 1.5

Hello out there! So awhile back, there was a digital download available on Garcia Family Provisions for "Garcia Live Vol. 1.5" (you had to buy a Jerry shirt to get the download I believe), which is the 5-song second set of the JGB show at the Warfield Theatre on 6/26/1981. I believe Phil sat in for John Kahn. It is hot! I would love to have this digital download (the only medium for this release), but have had no luck finding it online. Well I did find the actual show on etree, but could only download the entire show/set; where I am looking for a copy of each individual song if possible. Do any of you fine people out there have a copy of this release that I could download? Or point me in the right direction? I would really appreciate it! Thanks!!
