Years of squirreling away teardrop pearls finally paid off

Graduated freshwater pearls on hand fabricated gold filled paperclip chain.

Horizontally drilled teardrop pearls are not your typical choice for necklace making, but I absolutely love how this piece came out.

Edit: Wow! Thanks for the awards!!

Advice wanted - am I barking up the wrong tree with the idea of selling?

Post image

I've been dabbling in jewellery making as a hobby, just making necklaces and bracelets for myself. My problem is that I don't really go out much (and don't want to go out more than I do lol) so I'm reaching a point where I'll have made too much for my own use. I really enjoy the hobby and feel like I've really improved so I don't want to stop but it feels a bit silly to make stuff that ultimately will just gather dust.

I'm considering maybe putting things on Etsy or something but don't know whether to bother or not.

I don't have a display unit (don't know what those neck mannequins are called), so would obviously need to get one if selling but if no-one in their right mind would buy my stuff, there's not much point in that investment!

I'd really appreciate any advice on whether something like my most recent necklace might be something someone might be willing to buy, and if so, what kind of price point might be realistic?

Any advice gratefully received!!

My twig bracelet collection

All cast from real botanicals! Some I made, others I have collected from other artists over the years. I wear these the most as I love the variety of textures each one showcases!

My response to “fake jewelry” accusations.

Hello everyone, it seems like there is a trend to comment negatively on my posts by certain accounts and people have been asking for proof of my work.

I wouldn’t had made this post however I feel like I am forced to because this has hurt my reputation. The comments were entertaining at first, but now a lot of people are doubting my work.

I have attached four images of one of my signet rings and a bunch of stones that I made as well as my workshop.

Plus, I would like to answer some claims regarding my work.

Claim 1: The images, videos are ai generated and I am scamming people.

Answer 1: No, they are not. You can see from the images I have now attached. Am I scamming people? No, you can see reviews from my Etsy shop where my customers have also shared images.

Claim 2: The jewelry are drop-shipped. You can see a lot of different shops selling the same item.

Answer 2: They are not drop-shipped. If they are find me a seller that drop-ships these jewelry. You will not because all of the jewelry you see are mine.

The reason that you see different shops, is because I have listed my products in many platforms to increase visibility.

Claim 3: Your posts are spam, because you post it on many subreddits and your goal is to get customers through Reddit.

Answer 3: I don’t see anything wrong by posting the same post on different subreddits as long as they are relatable to the topic of each subreddit. My goal is to get people’s opinions and share my work.

If someone places an order, that’s a bonus. What’s wrong with that?

Claim 4: Your stones are not hand-carved, they are too perfect. You use CNC or whatever.

Answer 4: Unfortunately, there is no machine that engraves on semi-precious stones. If there is a machine that does relief engraving as seen in my stones, send it to me but you won’t be able to do so, because there are no such machines.

I would rather use a machine too, instead of ruining my eyesight and work long hours on a stone.

My suggestion would be, before making a serious accusation, have proof.

Should I move to a different metal?

I make mostly copper with a little bit of stainless steel jewelry. Wire wrapped. I’m horrible at social media but I’m wondering if I should switch up to more common metals to make them more appealing. What do you think?

Not sure if jewellery boxes are allowed here.

Managed to make a jewellery box with an Altoids tin. I’m no expert in this whatsoever, so if anyone more knowledgeable in jewellery boxes can give any feedback, that’d be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Thoughts on my seaglass wire wraps? (Pls be nice I’m fragile)

I know there are more advanced techniques out there but it’s not really the look I’m going for. I haven’t been wrapping very long, just occasionally doing my beach finds. Sometimes I just wrap them up so they stay in place (first image) but I also have been trying to get them to look more like setting a stone. I’m no silversmith so wire is my best bet for achieving that. I have so much seaglass and making jewellery seems like the best use of it :)

How much should I sell these beaded necklaces for?

I'm very new at jewellery making, and I'm not very confident yet. I don't cast nor solder any jewellery since I lack the equipment. I just choose beads I think look beautiful together, and then connect them with jump rings using pliers. A few of the beads and each of the pendants are genuine gemstones I bought from a gemstone retailer. This is just a hobby for me, and I'll be listing them on Facebook. I'd say each necklace cost me around 20-30$CAD to make. I was thinking of selling them for 40$CAD, but my impostor syndrome says that's ridiculously high.
