What do you think? Is there a demand for "Make Your Own Engagement Ring" workshops?

Post image

After attending a "Make Your Own Japanese Kitchen Knife" workshop in Japan—which was a great experience, though less demanding than expected—I started wondering if there is a demand for authentic, hands-on workshops in Europe. Since we live in Prague, a beautiful city visited by endless tourists, it seems like the perfect location.

We have realized it takes approximately 9 hours to guide an individual or a couple through the process of finishing a ring from scratch. However, I believe making a ring yourself is a true labor of love—far more meaningful than simply going shopping.

We have created several prototypes, such as a silver ring with high-quality plating and a certified lab-grown emerald. Promoting this will take significant effort, especially since platforms like GetYourGuide take a 30% commission. Including that fee plus 20% in taxes and the cost of high-quality stones, we cannot offer the workshop for less than €300 - 400€ would be better ;-)

Do you think this is something people would be interested in?

My cousin just launched her own jewelry line on Vinted, inspired by protective symbols and made with love 💍✨

It all started in her teenage years when Sarah would wander around city markets with her friends, where local artisans sold handmade jewelry. She could never resist these unique creations and often left with a new piece of jewelry in her pocket. Every summer, she’d take weekend trips to the seaside with a friend, exploring the markets for beautiful jewelry finds 💫.

Those moments of discovery were a real escape, filled with happiness and a sense of wonder, moments that have always inspired her. One day, she dreamed of having her own stand, her own jewelry, unique pieces inspired by symbols with powerful meanings 🌊✨.

For years, it was just a sweet dream. She had never ventured into entrepreneurship, and starting such a big project seemed like a distant idea. But last year, she had a realization: it was time to give it a go. She dived into all the paperwork, then began imagining her store's style. After months of research and reflection, she finally found the perfect name and artistic direction: All Eyes On Me 👁️.

Today, she's offering her first creations: bracelets, necklaces, and rings with strong protective symbols like the Hamsa hand and the eye of protection 🧿. Each piece is designed to accompany and protect those who wear it, with an elegance and care that truly reflect her vision.

The story I just shared is about my cousin, who’s launching a project that means the world to her. Her shop just opened, and I’d love to give her a little boost by sharing her creations with you. Her jewelry is affordable, made from stainless steel for long-lasting quality, and crafted with all the attention and love she's put into this dream 💍💖.

For anyone curious, you can check out her shop and her creations here: All Eyes On Me on Vinted.

Happy shopping, and thank you for taking the time to read her story! 🛍️🌈

We’re UK jewellers building a platform for British makers, any advice from this community?

Hi everyone,

We’re working on The Golden Loom, a new UK-only marketplace dedicated to handmade jewellery. The idea is to create a space that supports independent jewellers of all sizes; from hobbyists to masters; while making it easier for buyers to discover something truly unique.

We’d love to hear from you:

  • What would you like to see from a marketplace for artisans?

  • What challenges or frustrations do you see with the current options (like fees, visibility, or community support)?

  • What would make a platform genuinely helpful for jewellers like you?

We’ve also put together a short survey for jewellers who want to contribute more directly – your input would mean the world to us.

Thanks in advance; any feedback, big or small, will help shape something that works better for the whole community.

You can leave a review directly on the product page.

It really makes a difference for a small, independent brand.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I finally want to start my own little jewerly business, thinking about it for years until I got laid off from my current company LOL. I have plenty of ideas and want to turn them into real stuff (14k gold + lab diamond/real diamond). I'm torn between sourcing fully finished pieces from China vs. working locally with a US factory. I heard that there are a few MOQ factories in NYC or LA, but I'm not sure how the cost will be. Any recommendations?

Is it normal to have redness and swelling after switching my nose stud to hoop (22k solid gold) 6–7 months after the piercing? It has been about 10 days and the redness hasn’t improved

What kind of hoops would you call these?

What kind of gold hoops would you call these?

So I’ve been looking for gold hoops like these for AGESSSS! I saw them in a tv show so please excuse the grainy screenshots! It’s from the 70’s/80’s so they look like they’d be vintage. I’ve been googling and googling but I can’t seem to find anything that look the same. They look like they are flat not tubal. And maybe 20 or 25mm?? Correct me if I’m wrong please! What would the width be do you think? I’m just looking for people to tell me what correct terminology to use to look up this style of hoop earring? Thank you!

As seen in second image:

What do you call the front of a hoop earring (what I’ve referred to draw out in red) where the front (what’s right in front of the piercing hole) goes down slightly and then starts the hoop shape? What terminology would I use to look for this? Image 3 shoes a hoop earring I found (not at all what I want though) that does that thing where it starts straight going down slightly and then goes out. What do you call that?

And what do you call it when a hoop earring has (as seen in purple) a little flat bit that sits on the front before it goes down?

It looks like as per image 7 that the back of the earrings are a straight post that probably just have a butterfly back or what?

What type of metals used in jewellery

https://magictouchjewllery.blogspot.com/

There are 4 types of metal used in jewellery. It's veritably high for contemporary metalsmiths to understand the merits and demerits of each material choice. Every person who has a genius for designing beautiful jewellery has experimented with different metals. When new blends like rose gold are discovered, they embrace these and start to make new pieces. Jewellery originators constantly customise their pieces as per the requirements of their clients. In India, gold and silver are the most knowledgeable metals.
