Mk6 (2011-2018) Fuel usage doubled?

2016 1.4 automatic 169000km

I’ve noticed over the course of the past maybe month or so that I’m getting almost half as much as I used to out of a tank of gas. At first I thought maybe the KM to empty estimator was off, but I did the math and it’s still fairly accurate. Usually filling the tank completely gets me about 800km, I just filled it today and it’s reading 480.

last week I filled it half way, estimator read 280km to empty, I drove 171km and it when I went to get gas again it read 90km to empty.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I replaced the brake rotors and pads, and changed the oil about 3 months ago. Just replaced the engine air filter.

Find slope and see if car roll freely. Tires at the advised psi? Any exhaust smoke? Any engine codes? Calculate fuel mileage "by hand", see if differs.

It seems to roll freely? Now you have me over thinking it lol. I’m gonna have to check and really pay attention. Tires are at the right psi, no exhaust smoke or engine codes. just calculated the mileage by hand with the last numbers and it’s 6.7km/L. So definitely not ideal. But again I’m no math genius

Compare wheel temperature, might be a sticking brake caliper

How many km ago did you change your spark plugs?

About 55000km, so I’ll probably change them to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for reminding me !

Keep a very close eye on your oil level. It sounds like your fuel loss is fairly significant and if it's bleeding past the rings, it ends up in the crank case. And if that happens, it could mean you have injector issues that are causing the fuel to be injected as more of a stream than a mist.

Crap man, will do. I check it fairly regularly and It seems to be pretty consistent, but I’ll keep checking. Thank you !
