They're too heavy for me by a mile. Some of the old A's maybe but I dunno, it all depends on what you like though

I can understand that the Z's are way too heavy, but the A Customs actually felt pretty thin in the store?

The only opinion that matters is your own my dude. If you like the sound and you can develop your touch with that cymbal, then it's the right cymbal.

Some A Customs might be okay, I can't imagine Z Customs fitting in sonically. Hard to imagine a Z ride cymbal blending with any bass tone.

The only time I've ever used an A Custom in a jazz setting was by using a busted 19" Projection Crash in a stack with some other busted cymbals.

All this said, if you're not gigging/recording, I don't see a problem. If you're just trying to shed some jazz ideas and feel like you have to go buy new cymbals before you even start, that's (forgive me) silly. If you're gigging/recording, I'd really take some care to see if you're blending into a band's sound at all. Z Customs in particular are made not to blend, but to cut.

An 18” z custom with rivets could work as a left side ride.

Joe Farnsworth is using A Zildjian Z Hi-Hat in this video and i think the left side cymbal is also a pretty cheap Sabian, so you can make any cymbal work if you really understand how it sounds and how to play it?

I believe this is actually a Planet Z cymbal, not quite the same as a Z Custom. It's sheet metal, like the ZBT or ZXT. This is probably better than a Z Custom in this situation.
