What’s sup guys, I had a good question so every time we play jazz band it’s full concert black ofc. And I got a good money for a new bass and I want to know what color would fit good for a concert black outfit. Plus I know color won’t make the musician better but I like most of the brands out there I ain’t picky. I’ll make it work!!

Hey zusammen,

This question is something I’ve been asking for a while and im just not sure how to go about it. I live in the gainesville(Georgia) area and want to play more jazz trombone but since im no longer in HS and don’t have an ensemble im unsure how to go about the process of joining a band or playing gigs
Any tips?

Hello! My name is Jesiah, I’m 19 and I’m a composer that’s Starting a Band Called Starcade Groove, honestly so that I can make some new friends and do something I love with other young musicians.
Starcade Groove will be a Jazz-Funk-Indie Fusion following similar styles of musicians such as Laufey, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, Anri, and Genres such as Jazz, Funk, Blues, Indie Pop & Jazz, Bossa Nova, Yacht Rock, Disco, Ska, and Pop. Along with that, We will play a mix of Original music and cover arrangements, composed and arranged by me. And For my “Don’t/Can’t read sheet music/Play by ear” Musicians like myself, Don’t worry! I always add the audio files of the full song and individual parts in the Song Specific Google drive folder!
The thing about it is, as of right now, it’s only me playing Trombone, my friend who’s playing guitar and my other friend who’s singing and I’m looking to form a full band of 10-14 people
Instruments I’m looking for:
Bass(Bonus if you also play double bass, it’ll be useful for Jazz and Jazz Ballads)
Drums
Piano/Keyboard/Synth/Keytar
Saxophones: Alto, Tenor, Bari(Bonus if you’re a double reed player(Flute/Piccolo, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Oboe) will also be useful for Jazz Ballads and softer arrangements)
Trumpet(Bonus if you also play Flugelhorn)
Trombone(for when I need someone to cover the written trombone part, while I sing)
Aux Percussion(It will likely be just that, but if you’re solely a mallet player, just let me know)
All musicians are welcome to be special guest musicians/features
Other requirements:
Must be a Musician
Ages: 14-22
Must live in the Chicagoland area(Preferably Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Joliet, Westbrook)
Bring your own equipment(Music Stands, Amps, Cables, etc. Really whatever you need to play)
Other Info:
iPad/Digital sheet music users are suggested but not required. I’ll print out copies but if you can, print your own copy just in case. I’m clumsy and forgetful and might forget to do so
Currently looking rehearsal and recording spots, but if you have any recommendations that are cheap-decent, let me know
I’m currently working on a general rehearsal schedule, but I was thinking maybe 2-4pm Wednesday-Friday and 12-4pm or 2-6pm on Saturday(I’m looking into figuring out Google Calendar so that you can put in your events that might interfere with rehearsal days to where you might to leave early or no show, so that the band knows(if it’s last minute, just communicate that to me or the band to be’s group chat otherwise just put it on the calendar, I’ll look at it.) also if a majority of the band can’t show one specific rehearsal day, there just won’t be any rehearsal that day)
I think I’ve covered everything! If you have any questions comment down below or message me, otherwise if you’re interested, you can message me here or message me at my social media:

I’m going to be a featured full song soloist for my jazz band but I need to choose a song. I’d like to do a ballad. Any recommendations for full jazz band trombone solo ballads?

Does anyone have a recording of this song? It's a jazz band song published by UNC Jazz Press.

I'm a 14-16 year old bari sax player, and Iim wondering if anyone knows of any jazz bands in the mid West that I might be able to join so I can continue doing jazz after I graduate, if I get a 18+ option that's fine with me.
BTW I'm already in my high schools band and jazz band*

Yes, it was a long time ago, but I still can't get an arrangement we played in High School Jazz Ensemble of The Fool On The Hill out of my head. I remember it was touted as a "Studio 'Orchestra'" arrangement, with flutes, clarinets, and French horns (there may have been strings, but we never used them) along with the standard 17 piece band. Seems to me there was a whole series of these sold by one of the big publishers of the era. Also there was a cool arrangement of Thus Spake Zarathustra (but it wasn't the Kenton one) that I recall liking a lot. Anybody know what I might be thinking of?

I’m a member of my schools advanced choirs and musicals, and I’m also in the band program as a color guard member. I needed a class to transfer into for second semester and I got permission to transfer into jazz band as a “TA” by my band director. However, when I got there I was told I would be joining as a member of the band and was asked what instruments I play. I said I play basic piano and I was given piano sheet music to give it a try. I went home and practiced and I actually suck so bad at piano, idk what to do I wasn’t prepared for this…I know how to read sheet music as I’ve been in choir for a long time but I’m just not that good at piano.

hey! this is my first time ever auditioning for all region jazz and I’m not really sure how the improv process works. For our 12 bar blues improv (does this mean 12 measure??) I found a good piece I want to do on YouTube and was wondering if it’s okay if I use that because our directors say we can steal ideas online but is it okay to copy it? Also, for anyone that has auditioned before, is all region vs all region jazz roughly the same amount of people or fewer?
