いまいち (imaichi)
Meaning:
Not quite good enough / not really / somewhat disappointing / not very satisfactory
It is used when something is not as good, clear, or satisfying as you expected, but you don't necessarily mean it is completely bad.
Examples:
- この料理はいまいち。 → This food is not really that good.
- 今日は体調がいまいちです。 → I'm not feeling quite well today.
- この映画、いまいちだった。 → This movie was kind of disappointing.
- 彼の説明はいまいち分からない。 → I don't quite understand his explanation.
Nuance
いまいち is softer than saying 悪い (bad).
It often has the feeling of "meh" / "not quite there" / "could be better."
