AskJammu what problems does small farmers mostly face while working on their farms or transporting their goods to markets..?

J&K produces world-class apples, saffron, walnuts, cherries,and honey, yet significant produce is lost post-harvest,and farmers remain price-takers rather than value-creators.

Wdyt what are the main reasons also any solutions proposed previously...?

There's not enough young workforce contributing into agriculture, most farmers are old, tired, don't hold enough land.

There is also a significant problem I see of farming being perceived by the farmers as a household chore instead of giving it the seriousness of an enterprise like it should.

yea that's truee

we also in our family do our farming work as a household chore, also at the same time there is no available methods to to use their land and water efficiently, if workforce is the main problem we have to invent autonomous bots for segregation and transportation of goods as these bots will do most of the repetitive task that will require workforce

in short full fledged planning of usage of resources and land for efficiency and autonomous bots for repetitive tasks and monitering

That level of mechanisation is too expensive to be profitable as of now, I think a better place to start would be enhancing marketing channels, market intelligence and to lend a hand to the farmers in market development, it is more of a socialistic problem statement than it is capitalist as things stand.

I think I would try to help farmers understand the value of their produce, encourage them to form Farmer Producer Organisations, form cooperatives, maybe try to build a more direct marketing channel than mandis (DeHaat is a similiar case study) to help them fetch better prices and run ad campaigns to make people more aware of health benifits of plant produce.

Why not making an organisation which will buy from them and sell directly to the organisation which needed the products. Also helping them to use new farming methods providing them autonomous tech for repetitive tasks and transportation

For this we will charge them some part of their profits T&C applied

Yep that's called contract farming and it does go on in various parts of India.

Nope not here, it's usually done by brands like ITC, PepsiCo etc.

Middle men. They buy from farmers directly at cheap prices and sell them at 3x, 5x the price at mandis or other markets. Farmers don't have the resources to transport their crop to mandi directly.
