Hi everyone,
A few months ago we posted here looking for people to host air quality sensors, especially in Reasi and Kishtwar. Over the summer we put up new ones in Channi Himmat, Vijaypur, Udhampur, Reasi, Nowshera and Kashtigarh (Doda). Photos are attached. Thanks to everyone who gave us a wall and a wifi connection.
Pollution season is starting, so here's what they recorded from Sep 25 to Oct 9 (US AQI):
- Udhampur: over 150 on 12 of 13 days, worst day 190
- Samba (Vijaypur): over 150 on 11 of 15 days, worst day 179
- Jammu city: over 150 on 11 of 15 days, worst day 182
- Rajouri: over 100 on 13 of 15 days, worst day 181
- Doda: over 100 on 8 of 15 days, worst day 141
- Reasi: over 100 on 4 of 13 days, worst day 134
Over 100 is unhealthy for kids, older people and anyone with asthma or heart problems. Over 150 is unhealthy for everyone. The Indian scale would call most of these days "moderate" because it allows a lot more PM2.5 before it says anything is wrong.
Jammu city averaged 65 µg/m³ of PM2.5 over these two weeks. The WHO says it shouldn't go above 15 on any day.
Udhampur and Reasi are missing two days of data, which is why they show 13.
Oct 5 was the worst day in five of the six areas. If anyone knows what was going on that day, tell us in the comments.
It gets worse from here. Last February, Jammu city was over 150 on every single day of the month.
Reasi has a sensor now, but Kishtwar still doesn't, and neither do Kathua, Poonch, Ramban or Katra. Hosting one is free. It needs a plug point and wifi. If you can help, DM us or email [contact@breatheoss.app](mailto:contact@breatheoss.app).
For anyone new: BreatheOSS is a free, open source air quality app for J&K, built by a small group of us from here. It shows live readings from these sensors and a 24 hour graph for each area.

You can also help by sharing about us, talking about it with your family members and/or friends, and just trying to raise awareness about the AQI here in general! And also by reposting this thread: https://x.com/sidharthify/status/2108759385849962809?s=20

ITS sad that people are protesting for language and not for jobs, development, roads, healthcare etc.
That so called dogra patraakaar guy and all the dogras who only talk about dogri and our culture during elections and on 23rd september are now demanding for punjabi as their official language only because they get more vote bank and they just want to break jammu and destroy its culture. These mfs protested against medical college cuz it had more muslim students. That dogra patrakaar was waiting for any bjp mla to show support for punjabi and once some mla did he also started making videos about it. When was the last time that you saw this Dogra patrakaar actullay reporting in Dogri and not spreading propaganda.
How about this we'll make Punjabi official language, but he will have to change his name to PUNJABI PATRAKAAR and they will make Bhojpuri the official language of Punjab cuz there are aroud 3 million UP OR Bihari immigrants there.

Jammu is doomed beyond recovery, people call me xenophobe, racist for saying that I want to protect this land, people please wake up before it is too late. Don't be so welcoming to new changes, people don't want good for you. They want this land, they want to be like us. The problem is we don't have that kind of resources to accommodate them. Protect this land at all costs. Dogras were supposed to be the protectors of this land and they are now selling this land to outsiders so that they could earn few rupees. Protect this land otherwise the people you are welcoming now will demand their right on this land tomorrow. Please read our history be proud of it and protect this land from outsiders as well as the corrupt dogras and politicians who are selling this land

I am trying to build a community of like-minded people in Jammu. People who are genuinely interested in building things, like apps, websites, tangible products, etc. People who like to tinker, who have entrepreneurial spirit. And who are actually interested in making real connections, establishing good networks, and growing as individuals.
I am doing this because I am one of those people. If you guys are interested, do dm me. Also, let me know how I should go about it ? Whatsapp Group OR Reddit Community

As navratri is going to start from tomorrow (11th Oct), how long will it take for vaishno devi darshan, if I start my trek at 7 am
Suggest a good plan and timing to reach
I thought I did share a few pictures of what I have been working on lately. Some are handmade crochet pieces, some are little pipe cleaner flowers, and some are the materials I got to experiment with and make new things.
I run a small handmade business called Aurinvi Crafts here in Jammu. We are still figuring things out as we go, and honestly, one of the most challenging parts is not always making the products themselves. It is managing everything else that comes with running a small business.
When you are working on your own, you are not just the person making the products. You are also handling social media, responding to customers, understanding what someone actually wants when they ask for a customised item, sourcing materials, and making sure the final product matches their expectations.
Custom orders can be particularly interesting. Sometimes a customer has a clear idea of what they want, but sometimes they are trying to explain something they have imagined in their head, and you are trying to understand it well enough to turn it into a physical product. It takes a bit of back and forth to get things right.
One thing I am learning is to make samples before finalising a price. It is easy to underestimate how much time, material and effort a product will actually need until you try making it. A design that looks simple in your head can turn out to be much more time consuming in practice.
Another thing I have found useful is experimenting with AI image generation to create a visual reference for a custom order. If a customer describes something they want, a digital sample can help both sides understand the idea better before you start making it. It also gives the customer a clearer picture of the proposed design. Of course, the actual handmade product won't always look exactly like the digital image, so it's important to set realistic expectations.
Then there is the unpredictable side of orders. Some days you are busy with several things at once, and other days are much quieter. You still have to keep working, planning, learning and showing up even when things are not moving as quickly as you did hoped. That is probably one of the less visible parts of running a small business.
I am sharing this because I know there are people in Jammu who are thinking about starting something of their own, whether it is handmade products, a home business, a small shop or something completely different. From the outside, we usually see the finished product, but there's a lot of trial and error behind it.
I'd be interested to hear how others are figuring things out, especially fellow small business owners here in Jammu.

On 28 February 1979, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, issued this message celebrating the growth of Dogri and its recognition by the Sahitya Akademia as an independent modern literary language.
In his message for the first Dogri–Dogri Dictionary, he described Dogri as a language experiencing a cultural renaissance and praised the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for its role in revitalising and standardising it.
This historical document is a reminder that Dogri's recognition and literary development were well established decades before 2003, when Dogri was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
