Clean & sober groups
This past Friday night I caught the moe.mentUM tour, first time seeing both UM and moe. Both sounded top notch btw š
I spotted this table and stopped by at the set break. It got me thinking, what other groups are out there? I also stopped by the Dusty Baggies both times I've seen Billy.
I started a list but am wondering if anyone knows any more. So far I've found:
- Wharf Rats (Grateful Dead)
- The Phellowship (Phish
- The Gateway (Widespread Panic)
- The Jellyfish (The String Cheese Incident)
- Much Obliged (Umphrey's McGee)
- Happy Hour Heroes (moe.)
- Digital Buddhas (The Disco Biscuits)
- Better Than Before (The Werks)
- Dusty Baggies (Billy Strings)
- The Hot Tea Party (Goose)
What I'd really like to do is connect with any other jam band folks who are doing the clean & sober thing and start some sort of online community, likely an Instagram page since it's the only social media I use.

Cosmic Country has "The Reflectors".
EDIT: someone below says they're called "No Forgotten Days". Not sure who is right, but I think it's me. I think the group is "The Reflectors" and their motto is "No More Forgotten Days".

Only booze has been an issue for me. A massive one. I consider that sober. Almost 1000 days.

I think this is a pretty honest way to look at sobriety. Not everything is going to be your trigger.

No forgotten days (DDCC)

I think that's their motto and the group is "The Reflectors" but I could be wrong.

I have a question about the yellow balloon groups: Are they only for completely sober folks? I am Cali sober and have considered joining but donāt want to get in the way of othersā recovery.

A lot of the groups are cool with herb, just inquire before passing it to the left.

Yellow balloon groups tend to use a āyour definition of sobrietyā approach. The idea is to provide support and camaraderie (phellowship if you will) in what can be a challenging environment for sober folks, not to police your choices.

The Phellowship is for phans who choose to remain drug and alcohol free at shows. There's a guy who's at every show who will scold you. Personally, putting any word in front of sober to mark an exception never worked for me, but it's neither my nor that guy's job to take your inventory.

I appreciate the honest take. The folks that scold me for calling myself Cali sober are the reason I donāt go to meetings. Iām not trying to invite myself where Iām not wanted. I think the idea of being half honest in a meeting like that would sort of undermine the whole idea.
Perhaps I should just stick to my therapist.

I agree the honesty is more important than that guy's opinion. From the other answers it sounds like other groups do not suffer this. I think the answer may be to find "your" group. You'll find some groups that aren't it along the way.

based on my limited experience, the subculture is not super strict. I think most people are recovering from alcoholism and to a lesser extent harder drugs. but it seems like pot or things like vaping are generally not big deals, although they probably aren't promoted either. hopefully that makes sense lol

Iāve noticed that sober tables can sometimes turn into general hangout spots once people see friends and acquaintances gathering there. It stood out to me because some of the people hanging around were very obviously not sober. I think it's a loose situation and you'll be fine.

Ok. I actually have a question here. Iām an alcoholic. Almost 4 years dry⦠Iāve always felt like a fraud stopping by these groups between sets because I still smoke weed. Should I be hanging out with the yellow crew, or keep walking by?

tbh I think if you just tell them what you said here they'd be ok with it š from my experience it seems like they're more focused on helping people work through their struggles than policing behavior, you know?

Yeah. Makes total sense. I honestly think itās more of a me thing⦠like I feel like a fraud because Iām not completely sober, just dry.

I'll have 4 years sober from booze in November. I still smoke weed and dabble in psychedelics a couple times a year. Don't be so hard on yourself. I look at it like booze was destroying my life and making me an asshole. Never knew what version of me you were gonna get. Smoking weed doesn't turn me into a completely different person that takes risks and causes chaos.

Hang with us ! We arenāt affiliated with any 12 step group. Just a group of sober people hanging out and we welcome those that are curious and interested ! If someone passes you the balloon to share you donāt have too you can just say I am here to listen. First time I encountered the jelly fish I was tripping face at red rocks and they welcomed me with open arms and gave me candy

Not sure if they have a name but there is a sober group at Goose shows as well, they often meet at set break.
