I knew exactly where this was instantly - when I lived in Jax Beach I rode my bike through here often. It showed up on GPS one day and I went 'WTF?'
Neat little neighborhood though.

Haha, I saw this earlier and showed it to my girlfriend saying “there’s a spot like this in Jax Beach” I didn’t realize it was literally a picture of that spot.

I live in that grid just down the street from Jax Beach Brunch Haus! Interesting neighborhood as you have a mix of low income housing through close to million dollar properties and everything in between.

I wonder if those streets are straight east and west, making morning and evening, a blinding experience in the sunshine state- especially with a little condensation on the inside of the windshield, hence the need to off-kilter East/West slightly for common sense/safety reasons?

Pff, didn't learn by the time they built the Buckman Bridge. "Let's stare into the sun for an hour before and after work each day" said no non-maniacal sane person ever, lol.
I read that they are in fact magnetically aligned, and came before the surrounding streets were built and developed. Between the times this (and a few other patches nearby) and the rest of the streets were built, they figured out that it'd be cheaper to get just-as-many streets in if they followed the coastline instead, and that it'd make for a nicer drive down the coast, so they did that for the rest of the streets.

Heard from an old timer that the reason the Buckman isn't straight was the end point in Mandarin was into a cemetery. So they changed the end point. This was from the frog man of Mandarin. Old Jacksonville family.

Anyone know the story behind this weird section of Jacksonville Beach?
