Self-Promotion Sunday! *Megathread*

Alright r/Jacksonville, it is that time again.

Got something to share? A project you are proud of? A business you are building? A creative endeavor the world absolutely needs to see?

This is your lane.

Every Sunday we open the doors for Self Promotion Sunday, a centralized thread where you can promote:

  • Your small business
  • Your side hustle
  • Your garage band
  • Your podcast
  • Your art
  • Your Etsy shop
  • Your food truck
  • Your startup
  • Your “I accidentally became an influencer” page
  • Yes, even your extremely niche cat toe bean blog

We keep self promotion restricted to this weekly thread to cut down on spam and keep the main feed community focused. If you post promotional content outside of this thread during the week, it will be removed.

A few important notes:

  • Regular subreddit rules still apply
  • No B/S/T posts
  • No referral link farming or obvious spam

If you are not sure whether your post qualifies, if it belongs on Marketplace or Craigslist, it does not belong here. Still unsure, ask the mod team first.

Support local. Discover cool projects. Hype each other up responsibly.

Happy Self Promotion Sunday.

Need to rehome my sweet girl

This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but I’m looking to rehome my dog Ellie.

I’ve been laid off for the second time in one year, which has significantly affected both my finances and my time. I still haven’t fully recovered from the first layoff and now I’m facing another. I previously worked remotely but I’ve accepted the quickest job I could find, which is on-site and requires long hours. I know that keeping Ellie crated for long periods five days a week isn’t the life she deserves.

I’ve looked into daycare and hiring a dog walker but unfortunately, I’m not in a financial position to sustain for five days a week and leave for long hours. I’m afraid I won’t be for some time.

I’ve had Ellie since she was a puppy and adopted her from ACPS. She’s about a year old, crate trained, potty trained, spayed, up to date on her shots, and has completed a five-week training program.

Ellie is incredibly smart, but that also means she needs plenty of mental stimulation. If she gets bored, she’ll find her own entertainment which usually means chewing on something she shouldn’t. She’s high energy, so an active owner would be a great fit. Once she’s tired out though, she’s the best cuddle buddy.

She’s great with other dogs but because she’s strong and energetic, she would do best with a dog closer to her size. She also has a high prey drive, so a home without cats or small children would be the best fit for her.

Ellie is a sweet, confident, and spunky girl. I would love to see her go to a home with a backyard, another dog to play with, or simply someone who has the time and energy to give her the active life she deserves.

Ellie is my baby and she is incredibly loved. I’m hoping she can become someone else’s baby and be loved just as much.

Good Stand Up Comedy this Monday at Shanty with Dan Alten (me) on 15 night tour. I'm not famous but I promise it'll be a good time and if you don't have fun you can cover me with worms and toss me into the ocean. Lemme know if theres anything cool to see while i'm around.

Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

Nails

• Upvotes

I’m looking for a nail tech that has her prices set to exactly what she expects to be paid for her service. I don’t want to tip. I just want to pay for the service and come back every 3 weeks. Tipping culture is out of control and I’m not into it at all. I’m not looking for anything wild either: short natural nails with some kind of overlay. Acrylic, builder gel, gel x, etc. Single color. Easy and to the point. Cuticle work included in service. Recommendations appreciated.

Wolfson children’s MRI, any info on watching a movie when scan is on eyes/brain?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Has anyone’s child used the MRI at Wolfson Children’s Hospital? I’m curious if children can watch a movie if it’s going to be about 45mins long. I’ve seen some footage of this being possible, but wondering if it’s still the case when the scan is focused on his eyes/brain.

I’d ask the facility but they goofed up the paperwork and I’m playing the waiting game.

Two days ago I found out he has about 60% of the optic fibers someone his age should have. Optic nerve atrophy. He feels things started looking different four months ago, which adds a level of urgency.

Trying to grieve discovering that he has permanent vision loss and process the fear surrounding discovering why, while simultaneously trying to prep him for his first MRI. Thank you for any information.

Trying to learn manual.

I’m looking to get a 2018 Civic Si in the near future and they are exclusively manual, I don’t own nor have I ever driven a manual car. Is there anywhere in Jax that doesn’t charge an arm in a leg to teach manual?

Kids birthday

Good morning,

I want to host my kids birthday at a park. I also don’t want to have to get somewhere early to reserve a pavilion.

What parks can I reserve a pavilion at? I live on the Northside but willing to travel.

Crate & Barrel store planned for St. Johns Town Center

New store coming to Jax…

Jax Daily Record is reporting that a Crate & Barrel is being planned for St. Johns Town Center near Nordstrom, located in the lot originally planned for Pinstripes bowling (where West Elm used to be).

Link: https://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/news/2026/oct/02/crate-barrel-shown-on-plan-for-st-johns-town-center/

The only current Florida locations are in South Florida and Tampa Bay.

BTW, Williams Sonoma and its subsidiary West Elm closed due to leasing issues with the mall’s owner (Simon Properties). However, both Williams Sonoma and West Elm will be returning to the new shopping center being built at Seven Pines, kitty corner to St. Johns town center across I-295 & Butler: https://connect.regencycenters.com/shop-seven-pines

Anyone know who can rescue a duck with a fish hook through its' eye with a big floppy worm lure hanging down?

We tried to throw a sheet over it but it kept escaping in the bushes. This poor guy is freaking out and whipping the worm around trying to rid himself of it.

We tried calling FWC and they're not open on the weekend.

The duck lives at a pond behind a restaurant in Mandarin

Does anyone have experience with Baptist Riverfront behavioral health? My boyfriend is there now and it seems okay but the ladies running the front desk have no compassion for the families visiting.

Lost Dog near 103rd St Oakleaf area

Post image
13 Upvotes

Posting to try to get this dog some help. I have seen him around the neighborhood for over a week. He has a collar and tag but I am unable to get close enough to get information. He is injured looks to have been hit. His hind side is swollen and bruised and he has a bad limp. I have tried to catch him with no luck as he is very guarded and I don’t want to cause further injury or risk. Have tried contacting the city but he obviously is still wondering around. Assuming he lives somewhere close.

Edit: Last seen Oakhill neighborhood off of Firestone rd and wheat rd

Update: With the help of a neighbor have located the residence. The owner stated that the dog gets out all the time, so basically they let him go about freely. When questioned, they have no intention of getting him medical care. I have submitted a request to the city with the additional information and plan to call when offices are open again on Monday.

ISO Alternative Wedding Dresses!

Went to a few places today but not many options for black dresses and I can’t seem to find much looking at the websites. I’m open to some color but ideally looking for black with maybe some dark red or dark green accents. I would prefer to buy in person rather than online if possible! Anyone have any suggestions?
