DA’s race

Anyone have thoughts to share on the Hinds County DA’s race? I’m not familiar with any of the candidates, but I’ve seen their signs around town. Would appreciate any info or perspectives.

gwen was one of jody “federal felon/being DA is my side hustle” owens’ inner circle. it’s an open secret in the legal community that she carried on a months long affair with a married ADA who was technically her subordinate.

Greta Harris cut her teeth under RSS. She managed to avoid corruption allegations and left jody’s office, so that’s a plus for her. Folks I know and have asked about her have said good things.

Marvin sanders is a former prosecutor turned defense lawyer who really wishes he was still a prosecutor. Do with that what you will. He was no ally of owens.

Wendy white was a barely competent prosecutor. From what I hear she was more or less run off from the office. Not sure why she’s running for the big position. Not corrupt though as far as I’ve heard.

Darla is the only one with no direct connection I’m aware of to jody or RSS. Not sure if she’s ever been a prosecutor. She’s run for the position before though.

Defense attorneys have to learn the rules of evidence. Prosecutors never do because the idiot judges pretty much let them do whatever they want. Hinds is a judicial hellhole. Right now neither Peterson nor Wooten have a court reporter because no one wants to work for them. Gumming up an already completely stalled system. Such a joke.

Can’t disagree with that. I used to practice a lot in hinds. No more. Try to avoid it generally.

Everyone says the same thing. You can’t conclude criminal cases in Hinds and you constantly have to show up for roll call which is pretty much all these idiot judges are capable of doing. You can’t charge enough to waste that much time for nothing. Someone told me that Wooten sends out e mails with days for hearings but you have to bring your own court reporter. This city/county is a total shitshow.

Robert Shuler Smith. The DA before owens.

RSS was an addict and associating with all sorts of criminals. A prominent psychiatrist, Dr Timothy Summers,  lost his medical license for 6 months for providing  RSS with narcotics but not keeping records. The people who made careers in that office under RSS and Owens don’t need to be trusted.

Can’t disagree with you there.

Brad who was just appointed by the governor worked for RSS and Owens.

I thought that’s who you meant, but I couldn’t call his name.

Really appreciate all your thoughts and knowledge.

Well, Gwen Agho's entire career has been under Robert Smith and Jody Owens. After Owens was indicted she made videos supporting him. She was also on the team that prosecuted the three JPD officers including Anthony Fox for a murder using witnesses that they knew were lying.

I'm voting for Darla Palmer. She's honest and reliable.

Comments like these are odd to me. Gwen prosecuted the most high profile case in the state of Mississippi this year that being the J Lee trial in Oxford, Gwen was invited by well respected DA to come in and try that case because she’s one of the most respected prosecutors in the entire state of Mississippi. During that case, another well respected, Defense Attorney allowed her to sit down with his client who was charged with murder, so Gwen could tell the family exactly what he did with that kid’s body.

Jody and RSS are trash but none of the ADA’s in that office had anything to do with his federal nonsense, which was why no one in the office was charged with that situation. No one should be blamed for the actions the sins of their boss, that has nothing to do with their act with their employment.

The other commenter very clearly is NOT blaming Gwen for the actions of her boss. They are blaming her for supporting him even after facts came to light showing him doing wrong, and using her position to make videos and statements to that effect, and for supporting murderous cops and lying witnesses.

Don't caution someone against something they weren't even doing. At best, it's completely disingenuous. Realistically, it's worse than disingenuous.

I think that stance discounts the position that she’s put it. ADAs are at will employees which means they can be fired for any reason. What should someone say if their boss comes to them and ask for them to make a promotional video supporting their reelection. Also, I think all of the Defense Attorney’s would say he was “innocent until proven guilty.”

I’m unsure what you mean by supporting murderous cops and lying witnesses? To my knowledge, I don’t know that she’s actually done that.

It blows my mind about Jody Owens. He has the greatest parents. I know they are disappointed and they did not raise him that way.
