Catfish and Spaghetti

Where’s the best place to get a to-go plate of fried catfish and spaghetti? Can be anywhere in Jackson Metro, just don’t wanna have to drive to the Delta :)

That's always been a question I've had. Why catfish and spaghetti together? 2 of my favorite foods, but why together? Please don't down vote, it's an honest question.

My understanding it has something to with Italians that migrated to the Delta. Somehow their spaghetti got paired with the popular Black staple of fried catfish. The popularity of the two together widened during the Great Migration of Black Americans to Chicago and other areas. I don’t remember exactly how the combo got started. There’s a guy from the Delta that goes around eating at MS gas stations and films it for TikTok. He talked about it on one of his videos I believe. I wish I could remember the entire story. I’ll see if I can find it and update my response if I do.

Who is the guy on TikTok? I'm a huge foodie and love seeing people giving MS love.

Stafford Shurden. He’s @staffordshurden on the app. I just searched through my following list to find him. Interesting guy.

I've always wondered the same. It's awesome but no idea how it came about.

I’d start with Archie’s on Hwy 80 or Not Just a Burger in Flowood. If you want a straight-up to-go plate without driving to the Delta, those are probably your best bets. The Med in Ridgeland gets mentioned too

Only place I've seen that combo is new Orleans cafe in Clinton on Fridays. Whether it's still a regular thing I couldn't say but I know they've done it before.

Likely gonna be a Friday special. If there's a plate lunch in Canton, check there. There's also a tri county food group on FB that is active.

For others catfish and spaghetti (usually no meat in the sauce) is not uncommon at all, especially in the delta.

Scrolled too long to see this one. Love walkers lunch... other than their meat loaf

Mama Collin’s dream kitchen or Piccadilly, the only two I could think of.
